Emily held on to Lucas as though her life depends on it. She had tears running down her eyes and so did Lucas.

“Let’s get out of here”, Lucas said with a voice that sounded like a whisper just as he held her hands and slowly led her to his car.

Emily couldn’t contain her joy. She looked at Lucas for another time, trying so hard to think of how he was able to escape and come over to her, despite the fact that he was preparing for his wedding with Ann.

“Thank you”, she said in a voice that sounded like a whisper.

Lucas took Emily to his secret house by the river shore. His grandfather had told him that he would take full ownership of the house the minute he gets married to Ann. However, Lucas had sneaked into his office and taken the keys where he hid them. That was going to be their hiding place right until everything got sorted out. “This place is pretty cool. Are you sure that you’re meant to be here?” Emily asked as Lucas led her into the small but fancy house, facing the ocean and perfect for the eye view. “What do you think? I had to steal the keys because I was certain that his eyes would never go that direction”, he explained to Emily who sighed deeply and lowered her eyes to the ground. She was deeply bothered by the turn out of events and most especially, she was worried for Lucas. She never wanted to place him in a situation where his position as the heir would be in trouble. “Lucas…you’ve done enough for me. However, I’m beginning to think that it’s going too far. I wouldn’t w

Lucas sat before his grandfather, with tears trailing down his eyes. He had no idea of what to say but a lot of thoughts clouded his heart. He drew in a deep breath and wiped a single tear off his eyes as he looked as his grandfather again. “And what did you say happened?” His grandfather asked again, with a cold stare that sent cold shivers down Lucas eyes. He gulped. He was certain that his grandfather already knew every details about what happened but only wanted to hear it off his lips. “I’m so sorry, grandpa…”, Lucas started, still nursing the pain of Emily’s death that happened right before his eyes.

Denver let out a small chuckle when he saw the text message that came through from his grandfather. He knew that this was going to be a long one but he was fine as long as his secret was yet to get blown off. “I will be there right on time”, he typed in the response on his phone after which he let out a deep sigh. Emily had been so close to figuring out his truth and he was just glad that he was able to put an end to it. She was dead now and she was dead for good. Now, he had enough time to proceed to the next plan on his plate which was becoming the CEO of Belcraft.

When Lucas got the news of Emily’s death, he didn’t believe it. It felt as though his head got detached from his neck and for what seemed like ages, he remained numbed and stared at his reflection on the mirror.“What do you mean by Emily is dead?” He had asked Blake whose head was lowered to the ground in a state of mourning. Blake made to talk but not a single word came off his lips. He had been monitoring both Claire and her mother since Lucas asked him to. One day, he saw Claire receiving a letter from a post man and when he asked the man what it was about, the man replied with “a daughter of theirs is dead”. Blake didn’t believe it at first. But then, when he saw how serious the man looked, he knew that this was anything but a joke. “And he body?” He had asked the man who shook his head negatively.“There is no news of that right now. From what I gathered, the body of the deceased was probably torn apart by some wild animals”, the man had replied with a sincere look on his fa

Lucas woke up the next morning with a terrible migraine. It felt as though his brain was tearing apart and despite how strong he planned to feel, he couldn’t help it. He let out a soft groan after which he stirred on the bed and slowly sat up, wiping his red and swollen eyes. Just as he darted his eyes around the room, he caught sight of an envelope laying beside his bed, with a stamp on top. He gulped down hard…only one person dropped envelopes with stamp and that was no other person but his grandfather. He slowly picked up the envelope, tore it apart and brought out a letter that was as brief as anything. “Breakfast by 7. Don’t be late”, the letter said.Lucas took in another deep breath as he rubbed his forehead in a bid to ease the pain he felt in his head. He was weak and sick and tired of everything. Just then, a knock came to his door and he mumbled a very weak “come in”. Blake walked into his room with a very worried look on his face and a cup of water.“This should mak

Lucas walked into the dining room with his head held high and a bright spark in his eyes that countered how he had earlier felt. Blake was right. He wasn’t going to give Denver the chance to feel that he won already. He was going to fight till the end until he proves that Denver wasn’t close to who he claimed to be. “Lucas!” His grandfather called out with a pleasant smile on his face. Just some minutes ago, Denver had told him that Lucas won’t respect his invitation for breakfast because he was currently in some emotional distress. “You’re here! Denver was just telling me that you won’t come for breakfast”, their grandfather added as he looked at Lucas who let out a soft chuckle. “I guess your source of information was wrong because I’m here and I’m in a very perfect state”, Lucas said and flashed a soft smile that almost didn’t get to his eyes. He had to fake it because the last thing he wanted was making his grandfather feel that he was vulnerable. “Denver, you sai

Before Lucas could make a movement out of the location, a gang of boys had gathered already, surrounding him. The old man couldn't just stop calling him a thief even after he had explained to him that the money belonged to him. However, at some point in time, Lucas couldn't blame them. He had not taken his time to think through his actions. He should have known that it was definitely going to be outrageous for an odd looking man like him to display such huge amount of money, even if he was in disguise. No one but him knew he was in disguise as a poor man after all.Soon enough, it looked to him like the old man had filled the gang in with the wrong details. That explained the disapproving and angry stares they gave to him. It was unfortunate that even as he tried to plead with them so he could tell them the truth from the misconception the old man had, they had began to throw blows at him, kicking and slapping him at the same time.Lucas considered their action to be inconsiderate, i

As usual, there was always a plan B.Surprisingly, the first step he took made them take another step back. The last action he did was button up the torn trousers he was putting on. Unfortunately for him, he didn't have a mirror where he could look up himself to see how he looked in his disguised form. He had made a mental note to himself before leaving the house that he had to look the poorest ever. After his several attempts to make the people around him believe that Emily was not dead had failed, Lucas took it upon himself to go search for her himself. He knew how hard he had paid people to go in search of her. However, it was heart breaking to say that there was no one who took it in their deep interest to find her because if they did, he was pretty sure that some positive results would have come out. He was presently at one of the abandoned and deserted warehouses he knew about. That was another perfect spot for a billionaire like him to suddenly transform himself into a disgusted poor man which people would want to stay away from. He had chosen the warehouse, far from the mansion so

“He used to be a student at the school.” The words of Mr. Shaw couldn't stop playing in her head. “I was able to go into the city. According to the people I found, he used to be a student at one Belmont Academy.” The old man explained to Emily. At first, when he had come into the house with the good news of having found the man in the picture and knowing his location, Emily felt her heart gladden. Ever since the date she found the picture, she took it upon herself to search every nook and cranny of the bag said to belong to her, with the intention of finding anything else that could tell her who she truly was. Where did you also go to find her, Lucas?” Blake asked, hoping he would still get a response from him because definitely, he was curious.“When you all were asleep, foolishly believing that she is actually gone for good.” Lucas answered, a sting of betrayal playing in his voice. “Lucas, you're endangering your life.” Blake said, concern glaring in his voice.“I don't care if I had to do that. All I want is to find my woman.” Lucas said forcefully, turning to look back at Blake.“Let me remind you that this supposed woman is dead.” Blake said. “Her body was not found. “Is he still locked up in his room?” Mr. Belcraft asked Blake the moment he walked in. Blake let out a deep sigh firstly before he could respond.“I'm just coming in. But I bet he would still be locked up in his room.” Blake finally answered. The old man was the next on line to let out a deep sigh. When Blake watched him closely, he could see the wrinkles which had appeared on his face. It was clear to him that the old man was more stressed up than anyone else could be.And truth be told, he just had to be, owning to the fact that he deeply cared about his grandson.“Will you help me go check up on him?” Mr. Belcraft opened up again, pleadingly.“Of course Mr. Belcraft. I would do that.” Blake said, and he nodded his head in approval. Blake then turned in the attempt of doing what he had come to do as well as what he had been pleaded to do. After she had pleaded with her to let her leave with them, the old woman had thought of it wise to inform her husband. Clearly, Emily didn't object to it. Chapter 250

She had thought that the smell of drugs, syringe, and possible vomit had only conjured in her dream. However, she was all wrong when she opened up her eyes. Her first sight was the bulb producing light which was on, and the rolling fan. She stayed put for a while as she tried hard to realize where she was. Sadly, the harder she tried, the more pain she felt. The young lady closed her eyes shut again. This was in a bid to calm her hurting head, and also see if she could get anything. When she did it for the longest time she could remember, and nothing happened, she opened back her eyes. It was at that time she used the opportunity to look around where she was. Definitely, she had not been wrong when the smell told her she could be in a hospital. Even if her memory had a bit of lagging behind, she could as well recognize what an hospital looked like. But, she still couldn't think past the question she had. Why was she in a hospital? She thought. Despite the struggles, she finally
