Vivian stood with Geoffrey in the master bedroom of the house.

“So you couldn’t get the groceries yesterday.” Margaret told her daughter in a matter-of-fact manner. Her eyes looked disappointed.

“Was that too much for you?”

“I’m sorry mother, it didn’t…” Vivian was caught off abruptly.

“If Geoffrey didn’t get us some food then what would Vivian? I can’t believe that you’re married to Geoffrey but won’t learn a thing or two.”

Thomas lay on the bed in a half seated position, his back rested on the bed frame.

“Geoffrey is like a son to us and he would help us recover the money we lost. You should treat him better.” Mr. Thomas added, his voice was in a monotone, without emotion.

“It’s alright Mr. Thomas, Vivian is doing the best she can. It’s not her fault that she was compared to me.”

Vivian looked ashamed with her head bowed.

Geoffrey was about talking when he received an emergency message alert on his phone.
