"Get lost from our sight, you good-for-nothing bastard!” The angry voice of a woman broke the serenity of the environment.
In the McConnell House, a young man, Gabriel, was seen going down on his knees before his parents-in-law, desperation etched into his features.
"Please, mother-in-law…"
“Don't you dare refer to me as that," Nora, his mother-in-law barked, glaring at him.
“Also me. I have no relationship with you," a man declared. He was Mikelson, Gabriel's father-in-law.
Gabriel, swallowing hard, rephrased. “Please. Mr. and Mrs. McConnell, I need your help. I wouldn't ask if it weren't for my daughter, Jessie. She needs treatment urgently."
Nora, with arms crossed and a cold glare, responded sharply, "You think you can come crawling back here after all these years? You've done nothing but bring misery to Camella and now you expect us to bail you out?"
Mikelson, sitting with a stern expression, added bitterly, "I told Camella not to marry you. I knew you were no good. And now look where you've led her—to ruin."
Gabriel’s voice cracked as he pleaded, "I know I’m not too good for Camella, but this is about Jessie. She’s innocent in all this. Please, just help us save her."
Aliyah, Camella's younger sister, standing by the doorway, sneered, "You think you deserve any help from us? You never were good enough for her, Gabriel. This is your mess, not ours."
Tears welled up in Gabriel’s eyes as he struggled to hold back his emotions. "I’m not asking for myself. I’m begging you as a father who’s desperate to save his daughter’s life. Please, don’t punish Jessie for my mistakes."
Nora shook her head, unmoved. "It’s too late for that, Gabriel. You’ve burned all your bridges. Maybe if you had been a better husband and father, you wouldn’t be in this situation."
Gabriel lowered his head, defeated, but he tried one last time. "Jessie is your granddaughter. Doesn’t she deserve a chance?"
Mikelson's face softened for a brief moment before hardening again. "And whose fault is it that she's in this predicament? It’s yours. We warned you, Gabriel. Now, leave before you make things worse."
As Gabriel stood up, his legs trembling, he whispered, "I understand. But remember, when Jessie grows up, she will know who tried to save her and who turned their backs on her."
Aliyah scoffed, "Don’t try to guilt-trip us. This is on you, Gabriel. Always has been, and always will be. Honestly, you're so shameless for coming to your in-laws' house asking for help all the time."
Gabriel opened his mouth to talk, but no words came out. Nora Jerked up to her feet, saying, "I feel like a cursed mother having such a wretched man like you for a son-in-law who can barely fend for himself."
Mikelson, glaring at Gabriel, added, "He doesn't even have a family."
Aliyah cackled, taunting, "Maybe he's an alien from a loser world."
Gabriel, overlooking their harsh words, went on his knees again with clasped hands. "Please, if you could give me anything, I would do anything."
Aliyah suggested, "How about being our cleaner for a month?"
Reluctantly, he agreed. Nora infuriated, slapped him, and pushed him away. "You're totally unbelievable for accepting."
Mikelson, fuming, said, "You're a fool! Do you want to ruin our family name even more by accepting this? If anyone sees you working in your in-laws' house, they'll look down on us and call us names because of you. Get lost before I unleash the dogs on you!"
Gabriel nodded and turned to leave. Then Nora topped him. “Wait a minute, Gabriel."
He turned to face her, seeing her expression softening. "I understand your predicament and feel pity for you."
He managed a smile, believing she was going to help him. Nora took her purse as Aliyah tried to dissuade her, saying, "It's not right to help him, mother."
But Nora waved her off. "Stretch out your hands," she ordered. Gabriel’s smile widened, and he did so. Nora dipped her hand into her purse, her smile twisting as she took something and dropped it in his hands.
When his gaze dropped to his hands, his lips parted. She had only dropped a coin.
Seeing that, Aliyah burst into laughter. Nora's expression turned grim. "Leave."
Gabriel, clenching the coin, nodded and left the house as they threw demeaning words at him. His heart was heavy with despair, he had no idea where to turn next, but he knew he couldn't give up. For Jessie, he had to find a way.
The following day, at the hospital, in the dimly lit room, Gabriel's heart sank as he watched his daughter, frail and helpless, lying on the bed. His worry deepened as the nurse stormed in, her disapproving eyes fixed on him.
"Gabriel, you've got to quickly gather the medical expenses for your daughter otherwise we will be forced to stop the medication," she snapped, her tone cutting through the already tense atmosphere.
“I wonder bitterly why a young man like you can't cater for your family. What a shame.”
Her words stung, and Gabriel felt a pang of shame at his inability to provide for his daughter's needs. The nurse's disdainful murmurs only added to his burden as she left the room, leaving him to grapple with the harsh reality of their situation.
With a heavy heart, Gabriel turned his gaze to his daughter, her innocent face peaceful in sleep. How was he going to come up with $3000 in such a short time? As a mere security guard at Baig Group, he knew he didn't have any savings to fall back on, having used them all for the basic necessities of his family.
Feeling overwhelmed and helpless, Gabriel vowed to do whatever it took to save his daughter, no matter the cost. But as he looked at her fragile form, he couldn't shake the fear that he might not be able to fulfill that promise.
Silently exiting the room, Gabriel collapsed onto the hall seat, crushed and desolate. He was trapped with no viable solutions to generate the required sum in a mere three days.
Thoughts of the Wellington family flooded Gabriel's mind, causing a sour expression to contort his face. He swiftly dismissed the notion of seeking their aid.The Wellingtons reign among the nation's top influential families and procuring three thousand dollars from them would be a walk in the park for Gabriel. But he refused to stoop to such measures.Due to his father's involvement in his mother's demise, Gabriel had cut all ties with his family and chosen to live solitary for the past seven years. He had not laid eyes on them since. As a result of his crippling business collapse and his daughter's frail health, he was forced to turn to relatives and friends for loans, only to be met with disdain from his in-laws. Even his wife, Camella, gradually lost faith in him amidst their financial struggles. While plagued with worry and contemplation, a woman approached him. Her figure was stunning and her face alluring, captivating any man's soul. Her luscious ebony hair cascaded behind her a
Butler Moore was thrilled. “What help do you seek, master?" His words hung heavy in the air, causing Gabriel to pause, torn between his desperation for his daughter's well-being and his reluctance to reenter the world of the Wellington family business."Stop calling me, master, Butler Moore," Gabriel requested firmly, his eyes darting nervously towards the door of the ward where his wife and daughter awaited."I need your assistance," Gabriel reiterated, his resolve evident despite the internal turmoil raging within him.Butler Moore's response was swift and unwavering. "What do you want? Tell me, and you'll have it in an instant."Gabriel hesitated, his mind racing as he grappled with the weight of the offer before him. "I need some money. About five thousand dollars only..."Butler Moore's interruption was unexpected, his offer surpassing Gabriel's request by a staggering amount. "I can make it 5 million dollars. You'll get whatever you want if you can just do one thing, master."Gab
Fighting back the tears that were threatening to spill out from her filled eyelids, Camella turned her back to him, whimpering.“Just get lost. At least, it's a little relief that I won't have to look at your face."With a heavy sigh, Gabriel relented, his obstinacy momentarily overshadowed by the urgency of the situation."Fine, I will go," he conceded, his voice weary with defeat as he turned to leave. He held the door handle, glancing at her for the last time.“Don't worry, Camella. It all ends soon. I'm going to be the husband you always wanted to be proud of," he silently swore, his jaw bones clenching as he walked out. As he disappeared down the hallway, Camella's phone beeped, drawing her attention away from their quarrel. She glanced at the message silently, her heart heavy with worry for her daughter's uncertain future.“Maybe this is the best way because I can't just…” her voice trailed, overwhelmed by her emotions. Returning her gaze to the peaceful face of her sleeping dau
Not taking their words to heart, Gabriel stood his ground. “Well, I'm not really here for a business meeting but I certainly am going to see Mr. Moore."The confidence that oozed from him left them momentarily stunned. Until Nora blurted.“I see you have grown to be more foolish."As Gabriel stood before them, his attempt to assert himself met with derision and scorn from Nora, Aliyah, and Fredrick."Do you think you're someone important enough to see Mr. Moore?" Aliyah scoffed, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "You're more than a fool if you think he would spare a moment for the likes of you.""Exactly," Fredrick chimed in, his tone laced with disbelief. "You're nothing but a lowly security guard with no firm background in this city. What makes you think you have any business with the city's richest man?"Nora's disdain was palpable as she added, "You should be grateful if you even get a chance to speak with his assistant, let alone Mr. Moore himself. Know your place, idiot liar!”"Mo
Nora, despite her own disappointment, intervened firmly. "Enough, Aliyah. Fredrick is right. Let us try to be patient a little longer," she said, her voice heavy with resignation as she settled onto a nearby seat.Meanwhile, Gabriel was escorted into Mr. Moore's office by the secretary, who left soon after. As he stepped into the lavishly appointed office, he couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. However, his thoughts were interrupted by the hearty chuckle of Butler Moore."Welcome, Master," Butler Moore greeted warmly, bowing respectfully. "I hope the secretary didn't keep you waiting too long.""No, she was quite welcoming," Gabriel replied, his tone polite yet reserved."Please, take a seat," Butler Moore invited, gesturing to the luxurious chair behind the desk. However, Gabriel hesitated, glancing at the two seats arranged before the desk. "Don't treat me with such formality. It's embarrassing," he muttered, choosing one of the seats instead. With a sense of urgency, Gabriel urged B
Mark couldn't believe the audacity of Gabriel to treat him like a peasant. As he got him out of the ears and tossed him to the hallway like a little child, he spun and glared at his defiant face.“How dare you treat me like this?" He groaned.“Manipulators and jerks like you deserve to be treated worse than this. You should be lucky that I didn't have you bundled out like a worthless person,” Gabriel seethed to Mark's great astonishment."You've got the guts, huh? Do you think you meet up to my level?"“I don't want to know because I'm incomparable to you. You're not worthy of tying my shoelace. A pig is likely better than you, Mark.”Mark clenched his fist and gritted his teeth, boiling in rage. "You dare talk to your superior like that?”Gabriel smirked. "Superior my foot. If you've got an atom of respect for yourself, you should leave this hospital now or I will drag you out by your hair.”"Is that a threat?” Mark took a step forward, trying to seem daring. But Gabriel covered the s
Gabriel felt a sharp pain over the fact that she hadn't trusted him. "Camella, you shouldn't have..." He began, his voice tinged with disappointment. "I don't give a damn about myself in this situation," Camella interjected sharply, her frustration palpable. "I only care about our daughter since you're so obnoxious to care." She sighed heavily, her eyes welling with tears. "You know, I had a feeling that you were up to no good. Mark said that too, heightening my worries, so I decided to accept his help. He even cleared the medical bills in advance. Still, you couldn't show gratitude.""Screw that, Camella," Gabriel retorted, his patience wearing thin. "I had actually gotten that money through my...""I don't want to listen to any more lies, so save it," Camella interrupted, cutting him off with a dismissive wave of her hand.Exhaling heavily, Gabriel sensed her frustration and decided against revealing the truth. He had considered confessing that he was actually a super-rich second-
Leaning forward, Gabriel's hand slammed against the desk, causing the general manager to jump in surprise. His eyes blazed with determination as he locked gazes with the manager. "Do not test my patience, Manager," he warned, his voice firm and unwavering. "I'm not just another ordinary employee of yours who will succumb to your whims."He had entered the office with the intention of resigning, but the news of his termination ignited a fire within him. “I am not going to take this nonsense and believe me when I say that I'm not taking it lightly either.” He refused to let them off the hook for their thoughtless actions. Who did they think they were, treating him with such disrespect?“Oh, really?" The manager's face contorted with anger. "You're a nobody, Gabriel," he spat, his voice dripping with disdain. "What can you do? Who the hell do you think you are to walk into my office and speak so disrespectfully to me?” He glared at Gabriel and continued. "Mark was right about you growi
