Mark couldn't believe the audacity of Gabriel to treat him like a peasant. As he got him out of the ears and tossed him to the hallway like a little child, he spun and glared at his defiant face.
“How dare you treat me like this?" He groaned.
“Manipulators and jerks like you deserve to be treated worse than this. You should be lucky that I didn't have you bundled out like a worthless person,” Gabriel seethed to Mark's great astonishment.
"You've got the guts, huh? Do you think you meet up to my level?"
“I don't want to know because I'm incomparable to you. You're not worthy of tying my shoelace. A pig is likely better than you, Mark.”
Mark clenched his fist and gritted his teeth, boiling in rage. "You dare talk to your superior like that?”
Gabriel smirked. "Superior my foot. If you've got an atom of respect for yourself, you should leave this hospital now or I will drag you out by your hair.”
"Is that a threat?” Mark took a step forward, trying to seem daring.
But Gabriel covered the space between them and challenged with a stoic voice. "Just dare me and you would get to know what a threat is like.”
Taking a step back, Mark cowered but masked his fear with a cool smile. “We shall see." With that, he stomped away.
Camella seethed with rage, her mind swirling with accusations. As Gabriel returned, she unleashed her pent-up fury upon him. "You're a damn fool for resorting to borrowing money from them, Gabriel," she accused, her voice trembling with anger.
Gabriel recoiled at her accusation, his expression one of bewilderment. "Who?"
“Horrible loan sharks," Camella spat, her anger palpable. "I'm sure you could only borrow such money from them."
"Camella, no..." Gabriel began, but she cut him off with a scathing glare.
"Don't bother lying to me," she snapped. "Now you've indebted us. What the heck is wrong with you?”
"It's not what you're thinking, Camella. Please, believe me..." Gabriel pleaded, desperation evident in his voice.
Camella's eyes narrowed as she regarded him skeptically. "Sure, yeah, Gabriel, I will believe you," she responded sarcastically, her tone dripping with skepticism. "I certainly will if you only tell me that you went and borrowed that money from my family or you admit that you took a loan from some loan sharks."
Gabriel opened his mouth to speak, but Camella cut him off, her persistence unwavering. "It's only my family that can give you such an amount," she insisted, despite harboring doubts about her family's ability to provide the funds on short notice. Deep down, she suspected Gabriel had turned to a loan shark for help.
"I didn't take that money from your family," Gabriel asserted firmly. "Neither did I take it from a loan shark."
Camella shook her head in disbelief, refusing to accept his denial. "Yes, you're telling the truth," she retorted, her frustration mounting. "You didn't borrow from my family because your ego wouldn't let you meet them and ask for their help. So you resorted to approaching some loan shark to get the money. Are you daft? You know they are bloody dangerous and will come for you or us," she gestured towards their daughter, "if you don't pay the money back on time."
Gabriel's brow furrowed in confusion. "No. Wait, how did you get Mark involved? I thought you didn't like him..."
"He is my boss," Camella explained tersely. "He's capable of helping. He offered to help before, and unable to trust you, who simply left without telling me where you were off to, I resorted to accepting his help.”
“Really?"
She glared at him, firmly admitting. “Yes. Should I have kept my hopes high regarding you knowing the slim chance of you coming back with the money?”
Gabriel felt a sharp pain over the fact that she hadn't trusted him. "Camella, you shouldn't have..." He began, his voice tinged with disappointment. "I don't give a damn about myself in this situation," Camella interjected sharply, her frustration palpable. "I only care about our daughter since you're so obnoxious to care." She sighed heavily, her eyes welling with tears. "You know, I had a feeling that you were up to no good. Mark said that too, heightening my worries, so I decided to accept his help. He even cleared the medical bills in advance. Still, you couldn't show gratitude.""Screw that, Camella," Gabriel retorted, his patience wearing thin. "I had actually gotten that money through my...""I don't want to listen to any more lies, so save it," Camella interrupted, cutting him off with a dismissive wave of her hand.Exhaling heavily, Gabriel sensed her frustration and decided against revealing the truth. He had considered confessing that he was actually a super-rich second-
Leaning forward, Gabriel's hand slammed against the desk, causing the general manager to jump in surprise. His eyes blazed with determination as he locked gazes with the manager. "Do not test my patience, Manager," he warned, his voice firm and unwavering. "I'm not just another ordinary employee of yours who will succumb to your whims."He had entered the office with the intention of resigning, but the news of his termination ignited a fire within him. “I am not going to take this nonsense and believe me when I say that I'm not taking it lightly either.” He refused to let them off the hook for their thoughtless actions. Who did they think they were, treating him with such disrespect?“Oh, really?" The manager's face contorted with anger. "You're a nobody, Gabriel," he spat, his voice dripping with disdain. "What can you do? Who the hell do you think you are to walk into my office and speak so disrespectfully to me?” He glared at Gabriel and continued. "Mark was right about you growi
Gabriel's expression remained stoic as he faced Mark, refusing to let his taunts get under his skin. "Funny coming from someone who had to resort to sabotage to get ahead," he retorted, his voice dripping with sarcasm.Mark's grin faltered for a moment before he regained his composure. "Sabotage? Me? Oh, come on, Gabriel. You can't seriously believe that," he scoffed, attempting to feign innocence.Gabriel's gaze bore into Mark's, unwavering in its intensity. "I know it was you," he stated simply, his voice devoid of emotion. “Quit the act for I'm no fool." Mark's facade crumbled, replaced by a look of resignation. "Fine, you got me," he admitted, his tone tinged with defeat. "But you know what? Now that you're out of the picture, I will finally have some uninterrupted moments with your wife, Camella. Guess there is a silver lining to every cloud, huh?"Gabriel's jaw clenched at Mark's callous remark, but he maintained his composure, refusing to let him see how much it affected him.“
As Gabriel silently accepted Mark's apology, his expression remained inscrutable, betraying nothing of the tumult of emotions raging within him. But he couldn't resist making a joke of him and leaned forward, muttering, “Now, I hope you know your place, dear superior.” His tone was sarcastic, fueling Mark's rage. There was no better pain for a once capable man than not being able to exercise control again and the situation was that of Mark's. He couldn't do anything even if he badly wanted to slap Gabriel. “Yes," Mark forced himself to admit after receiving a glare from the general manager and he bowed. As Mark slunk away, visibly chastened by the public confrontation and humiliation, Gabriel couldn't help but feel a sense of quiet satisfaction wash over him. Though he had lost his job, he had not lost his dignity, and that brought him a measure of inner peace.“Now, let's see who's going to be calling the shots, Mark," he whispered to himself, smirking. Meanwhile, as Mark retreate
Gabriel remained silent, his expression unreadable as he listened to the General Manager's plea. Sensing something from his awkward silence, the general manager pressed further with a succumbing tone, “I was greatly wrong for my misconduct earlier. I was just a bit insane at that moment. I regret my actions and would like to rectify what I've done in the most suitable and best way for you if you don't mind. Please, just grant my request.” He clasped his hands before Gabriel. Gabriel knew what the older man was insinuating, but he refused to acknowledge it directly. “I have no idea what you're saying." The General Manager stared at him in awe, taken aback by his denial.“If this is what you brought me here to discuss then consider it a woeful failure because I don't know anything,” Gabriel added, shrugging his shoulders in disregard. Undeterred, the General Manager continued, his voice tinged with a note of desperation. "You must understand, Gabriel, that the decisions you make have
Back at the Wellington Group company, Aliyah glanced around the opulent foyer, her expression growing increasingly somber. "Mother, perhaps we should consider leaving," she suggested quietly, her tone tinged with resignation.Nora shook her head, her resolve unwavering. "No, we must wait for Fredrick. He went to speak on our behalf, and we owe it to him to stay," she insisted, her voice laced with determination.Aliyah sighed, her concern evident in her eyes. "But what if he can't successfully sway them ?" she asked, her voice filled with uncertainty.Nora's gaze hardened, her jaw set in determination. "Then we will cross that bridge when we come to it," she replied resolutely. "But for now, we wait.”"I can't blindly wait here with you, Mother. I just can't wait patiently for a negative result.”Nora's patience waned as she listened to Aliyah's pessimistic remarks. "Aliyah, we need to remain hopeful. Fredrick wouldn't have gone to bat for us if he didn't believe there was a chance,"
With his usual tone, Gabriel proceeded to talk. "Thank you," he replied sincerely. "Camella is alright and Jessie is doing better now, thanks to the doctor's care." As they exchanged pleasantries, Gabriel couldn't shake the feeling that his mother-in-law had something up her sleeve, but for now, he chose to focus on the simple joy of being reunited with his family, however unexpected it may be.Nora's excitement bubbled as she engaged in conversation with Gabriel, her voice laced with anticipation and hope. “Oh, Gabriel. A lot has been going on with us and that explains why we always disregarded you. Hope you hold no grudges, my son."Gabriel, managing to maintain his smile simply nodded. Suddenly, Nora posed a question teeming with possibilities."Um, do you happen to know any of the senior executives at Wellington Group company?" she asked eagerly, her eyes alight with anticipation. "Perhaps you could assist us in negotiating a partnership with them?"Gabriel was taken aback. "A p
Without wasting time, Gabriel hung up and hurried back to his daughter's ward, his mind racing with worry. Upon his arrival, he found Camella sitting beside their daughter's bed, her face etched with fear and despair. The doctor's words hung heavy in the air as Camella's worried gaze darted between him and Gabriel. "We need to find a bone marrow donor for her," he explained gently, his tone compassionate yet firm. "I will provide you with information on how to proceed, but time is of the essence."Camella's heart clenched with fear as she listened, her mind racing with a whirlwind of anxious thoughts. "But what if we can't find a donor in time?" she fretted, her voice quivering with uncertainty. "What if...?"Gabriel reached out and gently squeezed her hand, offering her a reassuring smile despite the turmoil he could see churning inside her. "We will take it one step at a time, Camella," he said softly, his voice laced with determination. "We will follow the doctor's advice and explor
The day of Camella’s delivery was a difficult one. The air was thick with tension, and Gabriel paced the hospital corridor, his face lined with worry. His heart pounded each time he heard footsteps approach, hoping for news. Dan stood beside him, trying his best to calm him down."She's strong, Gabriel. She'll get through this," Dan said, placing a hand on his shoulder. Zoe nodded in support. "Remember how well she did with Jessie? She can do it again."Gabriel nodded but his eyes were distant, full of concern. "I know, but this is different. The doctors said there were complications. It wasn’t like this with Jessie."Dan sighed. "Sometimes things don’t go as planned, but she’s in good hands. You have to trust that."Time dragged on, each minute feeling like an hour. Then, finally, the door to the delivery room opened, and the doctor emerged. His expression was serious, almost grave, and Gabriel's heart sank."Doctor, is she okay? Is the baby okay?" Gabriel asked, his voice almost bre
Gabriel's return was like a sudden burst of light piercing through the darkness that had settled in the room where his body was laid before he left, making his way downstairs. His family had been sitting in silence in the living room, weighed down by a sense of gloom, each lost in their thoughts when his voice echoed softly from the doorway."I'm back," Gabriel said, his tone gentle but firm, as though those two words were enough to bring peace to the chaos that had lingered. Everyone's heads snapped up, eyes widening in disbelief. Camella was the first to react, tears spilling down her cheeks as she rushed toward him. "Gabriel! You're...you're here!" she choked out, wrapping her arms around him tightly. "Yes, I'm here," he whispered, holding her close. "I’m back, and everything is going to be alright." Soon, the others joined in, surrounding him, their faces a mix of relief, joy, and astonishment. Marie, his mother, was tearful as she cupped his face, studying him as if she couldn
Gabriel’s eyes remained steady as he faced Thelma. Her expression was tense, eyes flickering with a mix of urgency and despair. She had tried reasoning with him, threatening him, yet he stood firm, his gaze unwavering. “Gabriel, this is the last chance you’d get. Forever,” Thelma's voice trembled, but it was clear she meant every word.Gabriel let out a slow breath. “Let it be so. Please, go save your mother. She doesn’t deserve to die at my expense.”Thelma blinked as if she hadn’t expected such calmness. Her eyes, filled with confusion, fixed on him. “The life is ebbing from you,” she said, stepping closer. “And my mother… for her to be restored, she needs the magical ring you’re putting on.” Gabriel glanced down at the ring, a simple yet powerful artifact, now glinting in the dim light. He looked back up at her, his lips curling into a sad smile. Without a word, he slowly slid the ring off his finger and held it out to her. “You can use it to save her.”Thelma was stunned. “Are y
In the dimly lit hall of Noctura, Seraphina’s laughter echoed against the stone walls, her eyes gleaming with a sadistic delight. Gabriel stirred, groaning as he slowly regained consciousness. His eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the sight before him—Seraphina, standing there with a mocking grin, her shoulders shaking with laughter.“Why are you laughing?” he asked, his voice hoarse, barely masking his confusion. “Do I look amusing to you, lying here wrecked like this?”“Not really,” Seraphina replied, her lips curling. “Actually, I played a little trick earlier, and it seems to be working. I can hear the cries echoing all around. They’re devastated… those weak humans.”Gabriel frowned, trying to process her words. “What do you mean?”She stepped closer, her dark eyes glinting as she leaned down, speaking in a low, deliberate tone. “I gave you a claim mark,” she said, her fingers lightly brushing his arm. “It’s imprinted right there, on your skin.”Gabriel’s eyes widened as he looked
Gabriel was thrown back into his dark, cold cell, his body bruised and battered. The guards had shown no mercy, following Queen Seraphina's orders to the letter. They took turns flogging him, their harsh laughter echoing off the stone walls. He had barely any strength left, yet he forced himself to stay conscious, unwilling to give them the satisfaction of seeing him break. After the beatings, they chained him up, suspending his arms so he couldn’t lie down. The heavy chains cut into his wrists, but he bit down hard, swallowing his pain. As if that wasn’t enough, cold water was splashed on him, drenching him, making the chill seep deep into his bones. It was all part of the queen’s relentless torment. Meanwhile, Thelma watched from the shadows, her heart aching. Her mother’s cruelty had gone too far. But she had been powerless to stop it, her powers restricted under strict orders from Seraphina. She clenched her fists, unable to bear seeing Gabriel in this condition any longer. Gath
Thelma stood there, her gaze fixed on Gabriel, her eyes shimmering with a mixture of determination and longing. Gabriel, shackled and weary, looked up, confused. "Why are you here, Thelma?" he asked, his voice rough from exhaustion.Thelma hesitated for a moment, then spoke softly, "Why? Do I need a reason?""Yes," Gabriel replied, his eyes narrowing. "Answer that. I'm sure your queen won't want you to be here.""Yes, my mother would be furious," Thelma admitted, her voice barely a whisper. "But I don't care. I just care about you."Gabriel's expression softened, but he was still cautious. "What?""Yes," she said, her eyes shining. "I care about you and... I want you to marry me."Gabriel's eyes widened, disbelief written all over his face. "Marry you?"Thelma took a step closer, her gaze unflinching. "Yes. Marry me. I can help you." He stared at her silently, trying to read her intentions, but she continued, her voice pleading. "I promise you, Gabriel, if you marry me, I can vouch t
Zoe felt a chill run down her spine, and she struggled to find words. "I... I didn’t know," she said, barely able to process what Tamara was saying.Camella, though lost in her own world of grief, heard Tamara’s last words and turned, her eyes wide with horror. “What are you saying?” she whispered, her lips trembling. “Someone has to die... for him to wake up?”Tamara hesitated, seeing the fear in Camella's eyes. "I wish it wasn't true, but... yes. That’s how it works. It’s a cruel trade," she said softly, her own voice betraying her sadness.Camella felt the room spin for a moment, her heart pounding. She looked at Gabriel, her lips quivering as she whispered, “No... there has to be another way. There has to be.”Zoe moved closer to Tamara, her mind reeling from the revelation. “Is there really no other way?” she asked, almost pleading."I've searched, Zoe," Tamara said, shaking her head. "But the truth is, in his condition, if he wants to return, a life must be taken. It’s not someth
Gabriel stood there, his breath heavy, the dark silhouette of the creature looming over him. It was unlike anything he had ever seen—a twisted mix of shadows and fangs, with eyes that seemed to glint even in the darkness. His heart pounded as he gripped the hilt of an available sword tighter, the sweat from his palms making it slick. He knew he had to act fast, but the creature’s movements were unpredictable, darting around him, taunting him.“Come on,” he muttered to himself, trying to steady his breathing. “Just one opening… that’s all I need.”The creature lunged, and he sidestepped, narrowly avoiding its sharp claws. The air was thick, almost suffocating, and his muscles ached from the strain of dodging and countering. He swung his sword, managing to nick the creature’s side, but it only hissed, unfazed, and retreated into the shadows. The brief moment of reprieve was shattered when he heard the snorting and stomping behind him. Turning, he saw the massive bull charging toward him
More machines attacked, but Gabriel was relentless, his mind focused on one thing: survival. He fought with a ferocity he didn’t know he had, each blow more powerful than the last. For every machine that attacked, he countered with swift, brutal precision, his eyes glowing brighter with every strike. As he stood amidst the shattered remains of the machines, his chest heaving, he heard Seraphina’s voice echo through the realm. “Impressive, Gabriel. But this is only the beginning. You will break, and you will serve me… or you will die.”Gabriel looked around, wiping the sweat from his brow, his breath ragged but steady. “I’ll never be yours,” he shouted defiantly, his voice echoing through the dark, empty expanse of Noctura. “I will find a way out of this place, and I will destroy everything you throw at me.”Seraphina's laughter echoed, dark and mocking. “We shall see, Gabriel. We shall see.”As the darkness around him deepened, Gabriel steeled himself, knowing that this was only the b
