CHAPTER 1- The First Murder

Sounds of sirens filled the air. A small crowd had gathered in Hermes street, block 101 to be precised.

Despite the heavy downpour, several more others still trooped into the flat of the deceased.

Young women and men were curious to know what had happened, while the children were frightened by the loud noise of their neighbors, the sirens and the rumbling thunder.

Before the early hours of the day, Tina's screams were heard.

Well, she's been screaming a lot lately so the neighbors never really paid attention to her. Instead, they put on their ear blocks to reduce her screams.

Old women hissed and rolled on their beds, young children covered their ears with their pillows, while the teenagers simply put on their headphones.

For over a week, she's been acting off. Screaming steadily, acting weird with her neighbours, laughing out loudly at the stores and even getting really lean.

They were all scared for her but they could barely afford a good apartment, they definitely couldn't take her to a hospital.

" Make way for the cops! Move!" Some police officers announced their presence, shoving away the crowd that had gathered at Tina's door.

The thick red liquid at the door knob didn't make them go in.

Some of the neighbors ran into their rooms and locked their doors, while others still remained to see what had happened to Tina, if anything did happen to her.

Two detectives; Rachael and Dolores walked briskly, almost robotically to Tina's door.

On Dolores command, the police officers made the crowd leave. Reluctantly, they did.

People hated listening to instructions so, Dolores ordered that they wrapped the area with the thick yellow investigation tape.

Once that was done, both female detectives went into Tina's room, careful enough to not touch the door knob.

It was easy for them anyway, as the door wasn't even locked.

Wasn't even properly closed!

A heavy stench of alcohol hung in the air, harshly welcoming the duo.

Simultaneously, they covered their noses, frowning disapprovingly.

Dolores signalled for Rachael to search the left part of the house, while she searched the right.

As Rachael kept searching, she began seeing faint traces of blood, the further she walked, the more traces she saw. The more traces she saw, the clearer they became.

Eventually, she got to a big wooden closet.

" I think I have something."She said, grabbing Dolores' attention.

Briskly, the older and more experienced detective walked to where Rachael was standing.

They exchanged glances, saying nothing.

As if having the same thought on their minds, they both brought out their short guns and took three steps away from the closet.

Then, they observed that the handle was bloody as well.

Pointing carefully at the closet, they both took one step forward.

" Come out now. I'm not gonna hurt you as long as you comply." Dolores said, carefully and slowly moving toward the closet.

" You have only thirty seconds to come out of there. Don't make me make you do it. Trust me, it's gonna be hard." Dolores warned, moving closer to the closet.

Rachael anticipated what would happen next, still on alert, aiming at the handle of the closet.

" You have only ten seconds left. The easy way or the hard way. What's it gonna be?" Dolores smirked, hoping deep down, she would have to bring whoever was in there out, the hard way.

She had been itchy to punch a face all morning.

" Well, the hard way it is." Dolores said, snapping at Rachael.

Understanding the signal, Rachael fired a shot at the handle of the closet.

Holding her gun with her left hand, Dolores put her right to work.

She swung her right hand hard but instead of hitting a face, she hit the insides of the closet, breaking a part of the wood.

" Shit!" She cussed as the pain surged through her fist to her arm, then her shoulder.

Something sloppily fell out of the closet, falling heavily on Dolores.

" Fuck!" She cussed louder, pushing off the moist disgusting object off her.

She got off the floor, frowning tightly.

" What?" Dolores asked Rachael sternly.

She was staring at her in horror, she was staring at the body too.

Dolores cocked her brow, staring down at herself.

" The hell?"

She was drenched in blood, human blood.

She looked around at what had fallen on her- it was a dead body.

" Fuck." Dolores and Rachael cussed together, quietly.

" Have some officers do a round up search around the house. By the house, I mean the entire compound. No one leaves, no one gets in. Tighten security at the Porche and bring in one man, alongside examination tools. Hurry." Dolores professionally instructed Rachael, squatting toward the body for closer inspection.

The latter hurries to do as she's instructed.

Dolores rolls over the body as it had fallen on its back.

Seconds later, she's back with one more police officer and the examination tools in a big yellow bag.

" Oh my God!" Rachael burps, looking away from the body.

It was a female,a dead naked female whose genitals have been mishandled.

Parts of her body had been cut away too. Like her pinky finger on the right hand.

A small part of her right shoulder had been scrapped away too.

And her face......

Her face had been peeled off too.

Dolores frowns at the male officer who kept burping irritatingly, his face getting redder by the minute.

" Spill your guts onto this body and you're as good as dead." Dolores warns the officer, noticing his urge to puke.

He nods vigorously, covering his mouth with his free hand.

" Get out!" Dolores says when she noticed his condition only worsened.

The officer ran out and Dolores only hissed.

" Dumb fuck."

Rachael only observes from a distance as Dolores examines the dead body, touching her faceless face with her gloves hand.

" Over here Rachael." Dolores calls and Rachael rushes to the body, unfazed by the gruesome site and gut-spilling stench.

" Take proper pictures, I'll call the medic to take this mess away. Don't stain my evidence. Wait till I've called the sergeant." Dolores instructs before walking out.

Rachael takes a camera from the yellow bag and gets to work.

She takes multiple photos, missing a part of the dead lady's neck where a tiny inscription had been made.

" All done ma'am." Rachael reports to Dolores as she walked in.

" Good."

The ambulance had come to take the body away.

Dolores took some of the tapes and put it around the Tina's tiny apartment.

They made sure to change her locks too and take the keys away.

Some of the neighbors peeped at the officers from the windows of their rooms.

" Won't we question them? The neighbors, I mean." Rachael asked Dolores as they walked to their car, protected from the rain by their leather coats.

" Not yet." Dolores said, taking the driver seat.

Before Rachael gets into the car, she takes one last look at the house.

Silence creeped in as they drove back to the station.

Rachael had too many questions on her mind.

Like, why would someone be killed in such undeserving manner?

Who put off the police alarm?

She took out the camera, going through the pictures she had taken, still missing the part where an inscription was made on Tina's neck.
