Sam’s phone ranged so loud inside the bank, because of the silence, it startled some of the customers and it angered the bank manager.
“Turn the phone off Mr. Sam, this is a banking hall,” the bank manager growled, fury in his eyes. Sam had been tempting him to pour out his anger for some time now, and he was finally succeeding.
Everybody inside the bank turned their attention to Sam whose phone was still ringing aloud, even the man who was busy dialing the honorable guest's number looked at him disgustedly because of the sound.
Sam didn’t listen to the bank manager, he didn’t care about the eyes that were staring at him, he was getting used to this everyday humiliation; yesterday it was at the restaurant and now today, it was in a bank.
His life had gone from bad to good, and to bad again since Amelia left him for Derek.
Sam looked at the manager scornfully, before picking up the call and he immediately he did, the middle-aged man that was calling the honorable guest saw that the guest had picked so he spoke.
“Hello”
Sam was confused at first, he turned his gaze to the man that was calling the honorable guest and waited for him to say the word again.
“Hello!” the man spoke again, and that was when Sam realized that it was him who was indeed the honorable guest, he quickly placed the call on loudspeaker, and for the last time, the middle-aged man went on.
“Hello!!” he stressed, this time everybody heard his voice aloud from Sam’s phone, and the bank went into a state of pandemonium.
Sam turned and looked at the bank manager, a happy-evil smile on his face, “It seems I am the honorable guest, after all,” he said.
The manager was left speechless, and so was the clerk; she was shocked to the brim, to the extent that her mouth was agape and she wasn’t aware. They could not believe what their eyes were seeing, it was too much to comprehend.
They had ridiculed this man all day, and just realizing that he was the honorable guest was more than just an embarrassment to them.
The middle-aged man’s face suddenly reverted into a bright smile, he thanked his stars that he didn’t say any hilarious words to Sam when his phone rang aloud in the banking hall.
“I’m glad to meet you Mr.?”
“Samuel Jonathan,” Sam completed reluctantly, he had been saying his name too many times in one day.
“I’m Christopher Logan, and I’m the president of this bank,” the man said and went over to Sam to shake his hand.
The sudden change of events was still very much a surprise to the people in the bank, no one was concentrating anymore; both the workers and the customers had their attention on the situation.
Sam wasn’t so surprised that the president of a bank called him, he had seen unreal things happening rapidly in his life, just some hours back; he was owing the restaurant he worked for five hundred dollars and had nothing like a truck, not to talk of a car.
Then all of a sudden, he was driving a Cadillac to a bank where he was the guest of honor they were expecting. It wasn’t too surprising anymore, even though it was still playing strings in his head.
After they shook hands and exchanged pleasantries, it was now time for the questioning; Sam was still lost, he couldn’t figure out why the bank president called him, nobody told him he was going to be an important guest in this bank today; if he knew he’d have prepared.
“Why’d you call me? I have no details that I’d be a guest of honor in this bank,” Sam asked, curiously.
Christopher smiled, Sam was behaving just like he expected.
“A hundred million dollars was sent to your account yesterday, but there’s no way you’d be able to use the money with your normal card. You need a golden card, and I’m here to provide you with one,” he explained.
This was a second blow to both the clerk and the bank manager. Sam was really telling the truth all this while, he just didn’t have the right card with him. The bank manager couldn’t help but regret his actions, but it was too late now.
“Are you really sure he had a hundred million dollars in his account, sir?” Out of guilt and fear, the bank manager had to ask the question to really confirm if it was true.
Bids of sweat started to gather on his forehead, as he waited for an answer from the president,
Christopher was confused at first, he was wondering why his manager and clerk were looking so petrified, what really had happened while he was away?
“Why the hell are you asking me such a question? What is going on here?” Instead of answering the question, Christopher threw two at the manager.
Sam smiled softly, staring at how the man who was shouting at him a few minutes ago was looking so terrified. He turned his gaze to the clerk and their eyes met, all he could see was shock, fear, and surprise.
When he saw that none of them was ready to answer, he decided to do it himself instead.
“It’s rather disappointing that you employ people like this, Mr. Christopher Logan,” Sam started, and the manager's heart sank immediately.
Christopher focused his attention anxiously on Sam, wanting to hear what really happened that made them so terrified.
“Mr. Manager here and his clerk have embarrassed me too much for one day, disgraced me, and talked down on me in the presence of everybody in this hall. Just because I didn’t possess the golden card in other to spend the money in my account, they called me a fraud,” Sam paused.
He shook his head as if he was having pity on himself, he then continued.
“If it weren’t for you, I would have been taken into custody by the police just because of a one thousand dollars loan I owe,” Sam concluded, he was so glad he had the opportunity for the first time in his life to report his humiliators.
Now they’d be able to feel just how he felt being humiliated and embarrassed.
Christopher got very angry on hearing all that Sam narrated to him, and the way the manager and the clerk were looking, without uttering a word, it was confirmed that he was speaking the truth.
“Is this how you treat customers?”
“The both of you are fired!” Christopher finalized, anger written all over his face. The bank went silent like a graveyard….
“Pack your things and leave at once, I’ll have your sack letters ready in no time,” The president urged, he was so mad at them for treating a customer in such a way. It wasn’t even because Sam was an important guest, it was ordinary decency to treat a customer well. The whole bank was silent again for a moment, all the workers in the bank including the customers were all shocked by the sudden decision that Christopher Logan just made. The manager and his clerk were too surprised to even utter a word, Christopher was a very strict man when it came to discipline. They won’t be able to plead with him to forgive them, that was the end of their jobs. Sam wasn’t surprised that they were sacked, and he didn’t try to plead on their behalf, they deserved it for the humiliation they did to him, people like them do not deserve to work at a place like this. He was totally disappointed in their service. Being ridiculed and humiliated at the restaurant was still acceptable since he was a worker
Sam was angry with what Amelia just said, but he maintained composure, he was a wealthy man now, and getting unnecessarily angry wasn’t ideal, he’d let his money speak for him. Although she was just talking only to Sam’s friends, the crowd in front of the post was surprised at her behavior. It was irrational and immature, some people who wanted to get jobs from the post walked away disgustedly, but still, the crowd didn’t reduce, who wouldn’t want to work in a prestigious company? Sam’s friends were furious at her words, they had no idea that she and Sam had broken up, was it because of that, she wouldn’t offer them a job? “That’s kind of stupid, Amelia, just because you’re anchoring this post doesn’t make you a god you know,” one of Sam’s roommates in college spoke out outrageously. He was upset about Amelia’s mindset, they were inheriting another man’s sin. Amelia gave him a stern look without uttering a word, she continued attending to people that weren’t Sam’s friends, howev
Amelia was laughing like it was a joke, but she was actually calling security on her cell phone. “Hello, we have a problem here, at Derek’s and Co post…..yeah,....please hurry up,” She dropped the call with a smile. Sam wasn’t embarrassed by their laughter, nor was he moved by the call Amelia just made; he didn’t care anymore; they were all ignorant of his current state so he expected nothing less. A few of Sam's roommates, that didn’t join in insulting Sam when Amelia ordered it, were still there watching the scene, they were still trying to believe that all Sam was saying was the truth, because, even though they won’t talk bad against him, they knew how poor Sam was.Sam smiled and brought out the entry card that certifies you as an employer in the job fare. Showing it to Amelia and her doubting gang of betrayals, the laughter subsided when they saw the card Sam was holding, it was just like the ones sitting on Amelia’s table. It was meant only for employers. “That’s probably a
“Hi Amelia,” Charity waved with a beautiful smile. But Amelia was in no mood for pleasantries, she had a dreadful sneer on her face and was embarrassed and pained for what Sam was doing. She still believed he was doing it to get back to her, but it was already going too far beyond what she could call a prank. Charity was a little surprised that her best friend didn’t respond to her greetings, but merely looking at her would tell anyone that Amelia wasn’t herself.“I’ve been looking for you everywhere, don’t tell me?” Benson paused, glancing at Amelia and then at Sam. He was confused, what was really going on; who was employing who? “Wait, I’m lost… what’s happening?”Benson questioned, curiously. He couldn’t deduce what was going on. He had called for Sam to attend the job fare, because he knew Sam was broke and needed a job to sustain himself, but seeing Sam here with a group of people around him was confusing. “I’m hiring, Ben,” Sam replied, stealing a glance at Charity, he fe
“Is all this for real?” Ben approached Sam, looking anxiously at him. Now that Amelia had gone, it was time for Sam to explain how he was hiring people in the job fare instead of trying to get a job. He needed an explanation for the words that kept coming out of his mouth. “Let the lady answer, Ben. I cannot begin to explain,” Sam giggled, glancing at Ben and then returning his gaze to Charity who was still reasoning the offer. She was also doubting, maybe all this was merely a joke; because there was absolutely no way Sam was hiring people to work for him while he dropped out of school just to provide for a woman who had dumped him. “I would like to know what position you wish to employ me in and the salary compensation,” Charity tucked her blonde hair beside her ear, suddenly feeling shy for no reason. “My personal assistant, I need someone I can trust with my affairs. I’m willing to give you $5000 for accepting my offer and then $10,000 as your monthly compensation,” Sam answ
Sam was utterly confused hearing the elderly man with gray hair calling him son, or maybe it was just because he was a young man. Old people tend to do that a lot. He walked slowly to the couch where the men sat, glancing at the number of guards that stood around the room; he couldn’t recognize any of them, they weren’t Clinton’s guards. Sam made himself comfortable on an empty couch next to the one the men were sitting on. The surprise was still on his face, but he wasn’t really aware of it. “Would you like a drink?” Clinton grabbed the bottle and began to fill an empty glass cup that had been kept for him. Sam hardly takes alcohol, but that wasn’t because he was allergic to it or anything; it was simply because he couldn’t afford it. He collected the glass from Clinton and stared at the golden brown liquid, he was damn anxious. Who was this man? He really wanted to know. “I know you must be having several thoughts in your mind as to who I am,” the man began. Sam raised his g
Jonathan walked into the sitting room through another door, he didn’t come from the elevator which means he had been in the villa before Sam came in. He was dressed in a navy blue suit, and red tie; looking like a sharp billionaire; Sam had never seen him looking so expensive and handsome. Jonathan was a little bit older than Ethan, but now that he looked more closely, they looked so much alike; and they both had gray hairs. Sam had always noticed that he looked a little bit like Jonathan, the man who he thought was his grandfather. But now, he realized he looked more like Ethan than Jonathan, they had the same blue eyes, and it was obvious that Ethan's gray hair was once blonde like Sam’s. Jonathan buttoned up his blazers and sat beside Sam, who looked like he just saw a ghost. With Jonathan present, his disbelief had been erased; all that Ethan had said was true. Sam covered his face with both hands as he tried to take in everything he had just heard. His life had changed for
Red flushes ran through Charity’s face, she looked away; would she be able to work for Sam and not obviously fall in love with him? Considering the fact that she had always secretly admired him but because he was her best friend’s boyfriend, she didn’t want to do anything stupid to jeopardize their relationship. Although she wasn’t really here because of Sam, she came because of the money, seeing him dressed like this; it seems everything he was blabbering about that day was true. The guys that Sam had hired rose from their seats when they saw him coming, Charity also did the same when she saw them.“Welcome to the villa gentlemen and my lady,” Sam gave a bright smile. The previous day, he finally learned the secrets behind his sudden mysterious wealth, even though he didn’t believe it. He wouldn’t be surprised how shocked these people would be when they found out he owned the very property they were in. Sam gave all of them handshakes including Charity, even though he had an infa
