Divorce

Chapter Two.

“Are you deaf? Or haven't you been listening to me, I can't be with someone like you, you too are below my standard, what will other actresses think of me, I will be a laughing stock to everyone. I can't boast of you as a husband in public. I will soon be the talk of the town when I finish the next movie I'm about to act in and I can't let you ever appear in the headline of news about me. Get the hell out of here!”. She cried out angrily.

Jared held her because she was about to fall and face Lucas.

"Hey loser, your presence is disturbing this babe, you are such a stinky lad, why can't you look for an ugly bitch that will fit your status. This babe is too expensive to maintain, if you work for a millennium, you can never get what will be enough for her in a day. This is the best advice I can give you as a man, get a local b*tch like you and manage yourself with her." he wanted to pat Lucas on the shoulder and Lucas held his hand angrily.

"Don't ever use that dirty hand to touch me, pervert. I have heard the advice you gave me but you are going to experience that soon. You won't mount to the level of my shoe by the time I'm done with you. " Lucas pushed him forward and he staggered

Lydia moves towards him after seeing how hard he pushes Jared.

"Do you want to be jailed? What if you injured him? You have no one to help you if he decides to take this assault up. Just tell me what I need to do to get you out of my life, how much do you want?” Lydia asked.

Lucas exhaled loudly trying to calm his nerves and make her see reasons.

“Listen, Lydia," Lucas said, his voice calm but desperate. "We have been through so much together. Remember when you thought you could land any role in a blockbuster movie? You did it, you made it big. We can still get you that lead role without agreeing to his request”

He explained calmly hoping to make her see reason as he held out her arm.

*Smack*

Lydia's slap landed on his face so hard that the red print of her palm was visible on his face.

“Don't you ever lay those filthy hands of yours on me ever again else you are going to regret ever knowing me? From now on or before now I have never come across you in my life and I will never come across a stinking stranger like you. Get the hell out of here." Lydia spat out angrily

There was a fire of fury and determination in her eyes as she spoke and he knew he could not convince her any longer and decided to leave.

“Hey man, I think it is time for you to leave, I was going to tip you off for making a delivery this late at night, but you just ruined everything. I will still give you something tangible to start your life. Babe, I can't come closer to him because I value my life, give him this one thousand dollars to start his life. So that he can get the hell out of here”.

Lydia threw the money to him and he smiled, taking the money from the floor.

"I don't reject gifts, but I will never consider this as a gift. I will keep this money and give you back when your life dramatically takes another turn. One piece of advice before I leave Jared, learn how to live extremely below your standard because you are going there soon." he advised as he was leaving the room.

Jared was scared of everything said to him and he looked at Lydia to ask what is her ex up to, she assured him that he was nothing and still nothing. He said those words to make himself feel better.

Through the stormy weather, Jared trekked his way home hoping to finally have a warm bath and some rest, but the night did not end there and met another tussle at home.

There was dark air around the large living room at the Brandon mansion as Lucas stepped in drenched in water hoping to hurry upstairs and have a change of clothes.

But there was a disdainful glare from the couple that sat on the large leather couch, although Lucas knew how much he was despised by Lydia's parents, he was never bothered about that all he wanted was to be able to give Lydia the comfortable life she deserved.

“Stop right there!” Rebecca Brandon, who was Lydia's mother raved out at him as she got on her feet. She wore an expensive long straight gown that presented her class and status properly.

“Good day ma” Lucas managed to let out, hoping she could be fast with whatever she had to say, that way he could rush upstairs and have a bath before Lydia got home.

“Here! Sign it!!” She exclaimed and threw a document at him and fled over to his face while he struggled to pick them up.

“Sign the document, I think that we have done more than enough for you, it is time to let you go”.

“I am sorry but I can't, whatever issue I have with Lydia is between me and my wife and we will settle it amicably”.

Richard Brandon chuckles as he gets on his feet, his eyes staring down at Lucas from head to toe, his sarcastic expression could be mistaken for sympathy.

“You are so pathetic Lucas and while clinging desperately to my daughter, you do not realize that she no longer wants you, she already signed the divorce agreement, all we need now is your signature to get rid of this charade called marriage”

His eyes finally landed on the document he held, and as his gaze met her signature, he felt his heart choked, he would recognize it even in his sleep.

Just then, the door swung open making a loud sound as Lydia stepped in gracefully, her eyes fell on Lucas but she Immediately adverted her gaze away from him like he was some plague that she needed to avoid.

“Mother! ” She called out and placed a soft kiss on her cheek.

“Tell me, how did it go, did he agree to give you the lead role?”

“We haven't concluded yet, Lucas came there and spoiled everything I have been working so hard for”

“What! How was he able to find you there?” Rebecca asked as she rolled her eyes at Lucas who stood still, stunned at everything that was unfolding before him.

“He was on duty for delivery and it happened to be at our room, the same hotel that we were lodging, has he signed the document?”

“Not yet, but he will right now”.

“Lydia…. ”

He opened his mouth to speak but she strode closer to him only an inch away before she spoke.

“I am sorry Lucas, but please go ahead and sign the divorce contract, my future depends on me getting married to Jared and I can picture the envy that will fill my friend's faces when I step into a location with my arms tucked around Jared as he introduces me to everyone as his wife”

A wide smile filled her face while she stared into blank space, the imagination slowly clouding her.

“Lydia, you know that I can't do without you, I will work extra hard, I will get more jobs and work five to six jobs a day and give you all my earnings, please don't divorce me”

“Are you not listening to me, we are not on the same level and I can't stoop so low to that, is it money you want, is that why you won't sign it?”

“Lydia! There is no way that we are giving him any money when he has been under our care all these years while we fed him and took absolute care of him, let him leave” Mr Richard yelled out.

Lucas could feel the tears build up, there was so much pain in his heart and yet he was not permitted to express it, he picked up the pen lying on the glass table and scribbled down his signature as they all heaved a sigh of relief.

Thumping through the stairs, Lucas did not bother looking back even for a moment and coming back was his tiny bag with just a few clothes not up to five pieces.

He glanced at her once more hoping that she would change her mind, but she threw her face to the other side, with a blank expression, he left the mansion.
