“What did you say? You want me to do what?” Charles thought he was hearing things wrong.

“Max can play poker,” Caroline stepped forward. “He used to play with my husband, and he’s good at it.”

“So, you’re telling me to play poker with a dog?” Charles kept stupidly staring at Caroline and Laurel. (This old woman and her granddaughter are crazy!)

“It’s not for free,” Caroline put forward a blank check with her sign on it.

Charles’ expression completely changed. Seriousness filled his gaze as he realized they weren’t joking in the slightest. Compared to Sofia who would make him sing songs for her if he wanted to play guitar in the mansion, playing poker with the dog seemed a lot more bearable.

Charles took the blank check and tore it into two pieces. “I will play the game. If I win,” he looked at Caroline, “let’s go out on a—” he paused and then slowly turned his head toward Laurel. “Let’s go out on a date. Is that okay?”

While Laurel felt like this wasn’t the right time to be talki

It cost 30,000 dollars to acquire a fake passport and a few more Ids to bolster Charles' identity as a professional of multiple fields. He was told it was all part of the special service. However, Charles wasn’t a fool. He could tell Blackbear was being nice to him to lure him into deepening his relationship with them, and then they would make him fall into drugs and what not. Having seen things back in college, and having been the only son-in-law of a billionaire family, he was aware of things that generally happen in the shadows and would never be brought to light in the same way they actually happened. For instance, Gregory had done a lot of shit right in front of Charles’ eyes, such as abusing his workers and viewing them lower than bugs just because he paid them salaries. Of course, Charles was an exception because he shined like a diamond while he was still a bachelor. Then again, he was treated like crap after he became a son-in-law, whom they viewed as their property. They tr

The film crew was staying at a five-star hotel. The first day of the shoot finished smoothly, and the crew came back to the hotel at night. During dinner-gathering, Reena was looking for Charles, so he had been keeping himself away from her. It was only when he went to Sofia, Reena didn’t approach him and instead went to waste time away with Selena. Sofia then took Charles to a table distant from the film crew. He thought she was finally willing to spend some time alone with him. However, to his bafflement, her little sister, Narika was sitting there. Narika didn’t have bountiful proportions like her sister, but she looked delightful in her own way, especially in her current short haircut. “This is my sister, Narika Myers,” Sofia introduced her. “We’ve met each other before, sis,” replied Narika, doing something on her mobile. “Oh, that makes things easier for me,” Sofia grabbed Charles’ triceps with her arms as she leaned into him. “She came to this trip at the last minute. Andres had been calling Sofia, but she didn’t respond to his calls. To the outside world, Andres was her main agent, and he would help take care of her daily schedule, but that wasn’t true. Sofia’s agent had always been the same person from when she started her acting career. It was Roger Smith, the burly, hairy guy. He would also act in almost all the movies Sofia was part of. Carlos never liked the guy because he was too arrogant and never let him talk to Sofia when he was around. He would make it look like Sofia was busy and all. Carlos didn’t mind such things too much until Sofia began disappearing for an entire day or two, and Roger would also disappear at the same time. Carlos thought they were both having an affair, and he asked Sofia, but she slapped him for doubting her and told him that Roger was nothing more than her assistant. Present day. Charles, Sofia, Narika, Reena, and Selena were all eating at the same table. The only person who wasn’t rich yet managed to sit at

Heart Bleeding. Mind Aching. Soul Shattering. These were all familiar experiences for Charles ever since he married Sofia, to the point even his dreams were like nightmares. Like most days, Charles found himself waking up wheezing and gasping today, not because he had a nightmare this time but because he had become a nightmare himself. Charles looked around to realize he was in his bed. He didn’t have any blood on his hands, or his body. What happened to Narika? The last thing he remembered was he went for a bite, and then he couldn’t remember what happened afterward. “I didn’t kill her, did I?” he rushed out to the shared balcony. The glass door was locked. He broke it with his elbow and entered the room, but she was nowhere to be seen. His heart was pounding at this point. He rushed downstairs where the film crew would usually meet for breakfast, and his eyes scanned for a single soul. Pretty soon, he noticed an oval face with short hair sitting among them. It was Narika, and sh

The shoot finished for the day, but Charles felt more drained than the rest because he had taken a lot of takes, even though he only needed to say five lines, and they weren’t even all emotional like with Sofia’s dialogues. Nevertheless, one of the lines Sofia told her ex-boyfriend in the movie stuck in Charles’ mind: Compared to Charles, you’re like the shit stuck at the bottom of my shoe. In the movie, Sofia’s boyfriend’s name was also coincidentally Charles, or maybe she told the director to give that name to the character on purpose. Nevertheless, her statement made Charles feel bittersweet. If only she had valued him, her real husband, even a hundredth of the amount she valued the character Charles, he wouldn’t be feeling all alone right now, not at all thinking about his future or having a family for himself. Once they returned to the five-star hotel, the crew asked if the young man in maroon shirt had come back, and he hadn’t, so they thought he might have just been bluffing.

Bram Bones was notorious for robbing casinos and killing cops. Just last night, he had shot an officer in the head for stopping the car and trying to search for possible narcotics. He had this shooting habit since he was young. Back when in school, he shot his classmate for refusing to accept his love and sang a break up song at her dead body. Because he had done a lot of terrible things before even growing a mustache, his father, the ruler of Black Feathers, a mafia gang that ruled the underground affairs in multiple countries, kept moving Bram across borders every year. Bram didn’t have a gun when Charles defeated his bodyguards. Otherwise, he would have emptied the magazine on Charles. Nevertheless, he gathered his men, all of whom had some time behind bars, and returned to the five-star hotel in a dozen black SUVs. About a hundred thugs stepped out of the vehicles. Some of them shot the guards without even giving any warning while some picked from the arsenal of weapons in thei

Just as Charles stood up from the couch, a grenade blasted through his room’s door, almost giving him a heart attack. Soon, a couple of men wielding machine guns rushed into the room. “Whoever is in here, raise your fucking hands up where we can see, or we’re going to put our pretty fucking bullets in your ugly face!” the men warned as they looked for souls, and they noticed a man standing with his hands raised high. “Cream-colored suit and blonde hair. He matches the description.” One of them immediately turned and shot the second guy in the head and laughed, “I’ll get the whole reward for bringing you to Boss Bram!” He marched over to Charles, viciously swiped the gun and struck the back of Charles’ head, thinking it would knock him out of his senses. Charles, however, didn’t even flinch. He slowly turned his head, revealing his scary-long fangs and burning red-hot coals that were his pupils. Shock and terror took over the man’s face, and his body froze in fear. Before he could scr

By the time the police reached the rooftop, they found not a single person standing there. And the only person they found alive was Sofia, whose wound was already dressed before they got there. It wasn’t Charles who did it as he was fighting himself at some place else until dawn. Moreover, the police couldn’t find a single footage of the cameras anywhere in the hotel. Someone had clearly been to the security room and destroyed the video footage, so the police felt at a loss because they had no clue what exactly happened on the rooftop. Over 430 people staying at the hotel died that night. Everyone from the film crew except Reena, Sofia, Narika, Selena and her bodyguards died. Roger had managed to hide in a bathroom for the entire night, so he also managed to survive. It was obvious that Bram Bones had attacked the hotel, but since there was no video footage, the news channel telecasted that it was a terrorist attack. The reason was simple. They didn’t want to piss off Bram’s father

The next morning.Victoria woke up and did not receive a bed coffee. She went to the kitchen, only to find a letter there on the fridge.Cassey had written a letter and disappeared. In the letter, she thanked Victoria for her care, and apologized for leaving this way because she knew Victoria wouldn’t let her go otherwise.“The bats must have really scared her,” Victoria couldn’t really blame Cassey, but she was still angry that Cassey left without even telling directly to her face. “If she comes back running after a few months, I won’t take her in.”On the other hand, Gregory, having lost his argument with Victoria the previous night, brought a black magician to chase the bats away. However, they didn’t know this black magician was a fake. But that would probably be not proven because the bats would no longer attack the mansion from here onward.Sofia told her mother to prepare her multiple masks, one of which looked like Cassey, and others that looked like different people, including

Many minutes passed since Sofia and others got stuck in the smelly basement filled with rat poop and what not. Moreover, these rats were the size of cats. From having eaten all kinds of roots and seeds in the garden, they grew very bulky, and they did not fear these four humans. They were more arrogant than the Myers themselves, as if they were the real owners of this place! As everyone waited with bated breaths, about an hour or so later, the music stopped. The sound of bats leaving reached their ears.“Did they leave?” Sofia wondered. She told Cassey to check on it, but Cassey was still feeling her wounds. She refused to go out. They waited a few minutes before coming out. To their relief, the bats were gone, and so did the guitar, but they didn’t care about the guitar.“Our mansion must be cursed,” Victoria looked at Gregory. “Do something.”“What do you want me to do? Bring some black magicians?” he yelled in frustration.“I don’t know! Just make sure they won’t even come near our

In the middle of the night, Sofia was rolling around and slapping her arms every now and then because bugs were biting her. There was no fan or AC in this cottage. All she had was a hand fan, and her arms had grown heavy from waving the fan. Now, she was completely drenched in sweat, and this made it all the more difficult for her to properly sleep. She got up from the couch and shook her dress before walking out of the cottage. She could see the mansion in the distance. The words her mother told her a day ago came to her mind.“After the wedding was stopped, we didn’t care about anything. But your sister went to the catering guys and told them to give the food to the homeless. They went and freely distributed the food throughout the city in our family’s name,” Victoria showed the details in the newspaper. “This is good for us because the public opinion will surely improve after this incident. We’re doing our best to make those videos Carlos showed at the wedding are fake. Even if som

Sofia was too stunned to even talk or blink for that matter. Where is he?”“He’s… standing right before you,” Carlos raised the face mask in his hand. “I’m Carlos. And I’m Charles.”Victoria’s eyes grew wider than the seas. The wine glass in her hand fell.“I’m Carlos Wallce. Why are you marrying Sofia?”Charles maintained a straight face. “You will know soon.”“What do you mean I’ll know soon?” Laurel frowned.“That’s all I can say. If you leave, I’ll prepare for the wedding,” Charles said.Laurel clenched her fist. “I hate you, Charles. I wish I never met you.” Holding her tears back, she rushed out of the room.Charles pursed his lips and took a deep breath. When he looked at himself in the mirror, he hated whom he was seeing.Meanwhile, in another room, Sofia was looking at herself in the mirror with a bouquet in her hand, she felt so happy. Almost a week later, the wedding day has arrived. The Sky Moon Hotel’s rooftop was chosen as the wedding venue. Many years ago, when he was very young, he was alone. Even after these years, that didn’t seem to have changed as he didn’t have anyone that would walk beside him.Charles was aimlessly walking, and he noticed a few men trying to look from an old beggar. They managed to take more than a hundred dollars from the beggar, but they still wanted more, and they began to rip his clothes, trying to see if he was hiding the money elsewhere. The beggar was old and weak, so he couldn’t fight back against the two youngsters.Charles approached from behind and grabbed their necks. They couldn’t move their necks, not even a little.“Give his money back,” Charles uttered, putting a bit more strength into his grip, and the youngsters quickly dropped the money. Charles then let go of them, and they ran away pretty
