The next day, Leonardo and Estella drove to the company in a dark BMW car. Once the car stopped, Leonardo felt a strong sense of nostalgia as his eyes took in the sight of the sleek and modern grandiose of the building.
The memories of the time he used to come here with his parents filled his head and now, fifteen years later, he still appreciated the contemporary architecture of the company and the air of luxury and sophistication it exhibited.
“Seems like you still remember what the company looks like.” Estella smiled at him, impressively.
“A little.” He answered while clapping his hands together feeling a little odd from his dressing.
“Are you sure about this?” Estella asked him, gesturing to his choice of clothes. At the same time, one of the security guards opened the car door, and Estella and Leonardo exited the car.
“Yes, I prefer it this way for a start. You know,” Leonardo insisted on wearing casual clothes on the first day of resumption. He even noticed the disapproving stares of the guards, but he cared less.
Estella stared at him, amused, and gestured for them to go in together. “Shall we?”
Leonardo, who was busy looking around the grandiose building before him, suggested she go ahead, and he would tag along.
“Really?” She asked, smiling at herself before nodding to leave. Leonardo sighed in relief; he wanted a break from how fast things were moving. He had a slight flashback of his life and the thought of the circumstances surrounding his divorce, which caused him instant headache. He tried to stay calm for a few minutes when a familiar voice jolted him from his thoughts.
“We need to finalize the deal today; I heard there's a board…” Sophie's voice trailed in shock as she looked at the figure before her in disgust.
“What the hell are you doing here, nuisance?” Kevin's voice was sharp at him.
“For real? Are you tailing us, you loser!?” Sophie scoffed in disbelief.
Leonardo just stood there and rolled his eyes in regrets. These were the last set of nuisances he wanted to see now.
Kevin walked up to him like he wanted to tower over him, but he realized that Leonardo was more muscular than him and couldn't be intimidated.
“Why are you here? To steal? Your type doesn't have any business here, get lost,” he grinned at the nonchalant Leonardo.
“Guards!” Kevin beckoned on the security guards as he stepped back to wrap his hand around Sophie's waist.
“I can't believe seeing this pipsqueak just ruined my day,” Sophie bellowed. The guard rushed there, saluting Kevin. He recognized him as a very important personnel of his company since he always frequents here for business deals. This particular guard is so enthusiastic because on several occasions, Kevin had tipped him previously before leaving.
“Do you just allow touts in here? I've known this to be a very noble place… Why is this tout here?” He yelled, which made the security guard more confused.
The person referred to as "tout" is the same person who came in with Estella some minutes ago.
“I'm feeling sick already. Don't just stand there; take him out now. You know we're important partners of this company,” Sophie barked in frustration.
Kevin peaked at her chin and gestured her to allow him to handle the situation. “Allowing this tout here could pose a risk to potential investors like we… so I suggest you chase him out now.”
“I'm also here for important business,” Leonardo chimed in calmly. His words almost made Kevin choke on his breath.
“Business!” Kevin and Sophie chorused together in mockery.
“Yes, business,” Leonardo affirms, "...and you both will regret this.”
“Is that a threat?” Sophie asked, obviously disappointed by the cheap stunts Leonardo was pulling.
“Honey, there's no point wasting time with this loser. Now, you throw him out. His appearance disgusts me,” she ordered.
The guards obliged; Leonardo's clothes were too shabby for the caliber of people that were welcome into the prestigious company.
Kevin and Sophie were also delighted to humiliate Leonardo. They had initially come for business, and the sight of Leonardo surprised them, but they thought he had miserably followed them to beg.
“Hey, Mr, please respect yourself and leave this minute,” the guard urged Leonardo respectfully initially but was ready to rough handle him if he doesn't cooperate.
“Didn't you see who I came in with earl…” Leonardo tried to protest
“Take the fool away,” Kevin commanded, and it made the guard proactive to jack Leonardo out but stopped at the voice of Estella.
“Jayden, the board members are wai...” she stopped at her sight of the scene in front of her, and she asked confusingly.
“What in f*ck's name is going on here? …..who are these people?” she asked, eyeing them suspiciously.
The guard stuttered, seeing her furious demeanor and cold eyes that shot at him, and he immediately left Leonardo. “I… I…”
“Who are these?” she cuts him abruptly, waving her hands as she walks forward graciously, intimidating them with her elegance.
Sophie sized her up instantly and internally felt insecure that the woman was more beautiful than her. Sophie instantly was curious to know why the lady was interested in Leonardo and the name she referred to him earlier.
Kevin cleared his throat instantly with a smile. “We're here for an important business deal when we noticed this clown was here.” He poked his fingers disgustingly towards Leonardo and continued. “He shouldn't be here, for a noble company as these,” he finalized, adjusting his suit because he perceived Estella to be one of the staff of the company.
Estella glanced a quick glance at her secretary; she understood instantly who they were and wasted no time dismissing them.
“Shall we,” she approached Leonardo, ignoring them like they never existed.
Sophie's eyes widened in disbelief, although she was jealous that the beautiful woman gave Leonardo attention.
“Woah! Great, look who has found another woman. Such an opportunist,” she said, catwalking forwards as she sized Estella up with her eyes.
“Pardon?” Estella turned, curious to know if she actually referred to the CEO in such a manner, although she wasn't aware of who Sophie was to Leonardo.
“Really, Leonardo? You instantly got another tent to perch so soon. You're nothing but a lazy gold digger,” Sophie sneered hard, taking it too personally. She doesn't know who Estella was, but she was clearly jealous.
Estella faced Sophie with keen stares, contemplating the right answer to throw back at her, but she thought against it. She didn't have time for them, so she turned back and faced the guard with a cold order. “Kick them out.”
“What! This is unbelievable. Who the hell do you think you are to kick us out?” Kevin retorted in a small yell. He felt disrespected as a potential partner to the company.
Estella cared less. She turned to Kevin with a cold look and asked him, “You're from Primer Company, right?” He nodded, confused as he narrowed his gaze.
Her words came out colder now as she faced her secretary. “Starting from today, we will not have any cooperation with this company.”
She walked away with Leonardo, who observed quietly. Kevin furrowed his brows, confused. He had never seen this lady before, although she was bossy, but he had expected the other lady he always discussed business with to intervene. To his shock, she just nodded at her instruction submissively. Unknown to Kevin, she was just a secretary, and Estella was the CEO in charge.
The security guards bowed to them as they walked into the company building. As they stepped into the large and vast entrance, they were greeted by the staff while they also whispered in awe behind their backs. “Oh my goodness, it's Jayden Romano.” “I thought he was dead.” “He grew up to be so good looking. Goodness!” “Where has he been all these years? I heard he went missing.” “There is a board meeting currently ongoing. We are late.” Estella informed Leonardo and they took the elevator to the top floor, where the meeting was being held. “Are you nervous?” She asked him as they disembarked from the elevator and walked down the hallway. “I mean, it's going to be your first board meeting. It's okay to be nervous.” “Surprisingly, I am not.” He replied to her. “I look forward to the board meeting.” As soon as they set foot into the board meeting, the once lively room suddenly fell silent for a few seconds and everyone in the room eyed Leonardo curiously. “Good day, ladies and
As Leonardo waited patiently in his car, parked in front of Ava's school, he glanced at his wristwatch again. He had been waiting for almost an hour but it was all worth it. He had been a little worried that Sophie might come to pick her up before he did and that was why he had arrived an hour earlier to fetch her himself. Even though it had only been a day, he had missed Ava dearly and couldn't wait to see her and hug her.Just then, he saw the sight of Emma and Ava walking out of the school premises. Leonardo's eyes gleamed with life again and he quickly exited his car and walked over to them. Ava's eyes sparkled upon seeing him and she ran to him, while he picked her up into his arms in a hug. “Dad!”“My princess.” He laughed and pecked her on the head. Then, he stared adorably at her face. She was the cutest thing that he had ever set eyes on and her bright face always made him forget his bad days whenever he looked at them.“Where did you go, daddy? I haven't seen you since ye
Once they were inside the house, Sophie led Leonardo up the staircase and into her room. She shut the door carefully behind them. “What do you want to talk about?” Leonardo asked, glancing at his wristwatch out of habit. He didn't want to be here. The memories of the last time he was in this room, prickled his skin and only made him angry. This was the same room where he was humiliated by a wife he thought was in love with him and a best friend he thought was loyal. “Are you in a hurry?” She batted her long lashes at him and a small flirty smile played on her lips. Leonardo looked away, ignoring her flirtatious acts and keeping his cold looks on. If she thought he was stupid enough to fall for her tricks, then she was dumb. He was no longer the weak and foolish Leonardo that she used to know. “Listen, Sophie. I am not here for long talks. I only agreed to come in and have a conversation with you because you begged me to. I have somewhere really important to be at.” “Somewher
The Next Day, Leonardo arrives at work before seven a.m. and some of the workers were busy pinching each other when they saw him. They didn't expect that he'd resume so early. After all, Antonio doesn't resume until nine a.m and sometimes depending on his mood, he doesn't resume until ten p.m.When he arrived, he met only the janitors and a few members of staff present. They were staring at him as if they had seen a ghost and he immediately understood what was going on. They weren't used to seeing the CEO resume early.A chorus of good morning filled the air and he waved at them in response. Not wanting to have any interaction with anyone at the moment. He entered the elevator and stopped at the tenth floor where his office was located. He checks his wrist watch at intervals and monitors the driver if he had taken Ava to school. He leafs through the accounts delivered the previous day and they seemed great. Sales were closed, goods were purchased. In all, they had a favorable day. H
Antonio strolls into the office a few hours later, and sees that the receptionist, Joyce, was busy typing, wondering what they were doing. "Hola, Joyce." He greets her jokingly. She was one of the girls that he had slept with to secure a job in the company."Good morning, sir." She replied harshly and he cocked his head sideways. That was new. He thought. "It's a good thing you're just coming in." She replied dryly. The shiteating grin slipped off from his face as he stared at the way her hands were flying on the keyboard. Never had he seen her this focused before so what changed. "Aren't you working too hard? Aiming for the staff of the year?" He teased trying to understand what was actually going on.Joyce's eyes snapped to him and stared at him with contempt in her eyes at his attempt of joking like his usual manner, "Maybe it's time to actually earn my keep. One thing it does is restores my respect." She flung at him.Antonio leaned over her desk, and peered into her computer to
"What did he say when you arrived at his office?" Leonard inquired from Emma when she entered his office. Not wanting to sound like a complainant at every little thing because she knew the boss, she decided not to talk. Instead she settled for shrugging. "He only asked for my name and whatnot." She replied.Leonard didn't believe her story because judging from her demeanor he could decipher that she was perplexed by something. "Emma, tell me what happened there." He said and she sighed."He was acting a bit flirty towards me but I told him off." She replied, watching his face, gauging his reaction to see what he would do.Leonard balled his fists but maintained a friendly countenance. No one needed to know that he was angry at the moment. His eyes flickered toward her and also gauged her reaction. "Sorry about that."Emma waved her hand in a dismissive manner. She was not taking whatever Antonio did to heart. Neither did she think that it was a representation of him. She had known h
"Then tell me who did it this instant or I will not hesitate to fire you. You don't want to remain penniless after all, do you?" He replied in a very angry tone. Mr. Ben's eyes flickered to the right as he stared at him, he was helpless. He needed this money to feel his wife and children and everything he held dear. Getting cut out of this business would put a dent on his image because he was sure that Leonard wouldn't issue a recommendation letter to him no matter how he begged. "It was your brother Antonio." "How do I believe you? For all I know you might be trying to frame him so that I don't send you out." Ben's hands went straight to the air. " I swear, I don't know anything about this. I don't know if you have anything in mind. we can go to him together. He gave me orders that I couldn't reject, sir. I swear I didn't want to do it. I have the conversation on my phone, the chats, the calls, everything, even the money he gave me to buy my silence." Wow! Leonard thought, this
Leonard was up on his feet immediately rushing out of the door like a man chased by a mad man. His heart pounded uncontrollably as he tried to remember what he was saying. "Where is the driver? Shit! I mean this is ridiculous! Where is the driver?!" Jesus! His heart pounded as a car drove into the compound at full speed and he immediately slipped into it with Emma on the tow as the driver sped off following Emma's directions. His heart was racing faster than the speed of light and he finally remembered to pray. This was something that could ruin his life. His hands practically shook, and at this moment he couldn't even pretend as though he was not afraid one bit. When the car pulled up in front of the hospital, he sighed in relief. The driver had not finished parking when he alighted from his car and rushed towards the entrance and thus into the reception. He saw the principal at the counter and sighed in relief again. "Mr. Leonard, I wanted to reach you but your phone was busy
