PAINFUL BETRAYAL

Ann hesitated for a moment before deciding to share her thoughts. "But why call her a bastard? What has she done to you?"

There was a moment of silence, so Ann spoke up again.

"I attended a friend's birthday party today, and it was there I got to know that the two are back together. So tell me, why the sudden hatred for Judith?"

"I'm glad you reached out, Ann. It's a complex situation, and I'm willing to talk about it."

Ann appreciated Laura's willingness to open up.

"You see, Judith has been avoiding me lately."

"Really? Is there a reason behind that?" Ann became inquisitive.

Laura's voice held a note of resignation. "Yes, there is. Ever since I helped her reconnect with Jude, things have been different between us."

Ann leaned forward, her curiosity piqued. "Different in what way?"

Laura sighed softly. "It's hard to explain, but I can sense a distance between us. We used to talk and meet up regularly, but now it's as if she's deliberately keeping her distance."
