He is wearing a white singlet and boxer shorts. He moves in the direction of the wardrobe. He opens it and his eyes catch the different clothes hanging inside the wardrobe. Malam Yusuf is dressed in a yellow shirt and a pair of jean trousers, while Mrs. Cora is dressed in a purple gown. She has her head uncovered. “I have arrived, mum…,” Amir said and sat down on the couch. “Please, remove those sunglasses.” Amir removes the sunglasses and says, “Mum, what sort of discussion do you want to have with me that can’t wait till tomorrow?” “Your dad wants to speak to you.” “What happened, dad?” Amir said, gazing at Malam Yusuf's face. Malam Yusuf clears his throat and says, “Where is Ava?” “Ava? You sound funny. She is at home…,” Amir said with a smile. “Amir, when will you stop lying? The pepper isn’t too much, neither other ingredients. When the food is done, Silas quenches the stove's fire. He serves the food inside two plates and leaves the kitchen, clutching the plates. “I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you. It’s a bright new day for crying out loud,” Silas said when he got to the bedroom and still saw Rachael slugging on the bed. Out of annoyance, Silas taps Rachael only to discover that Rachael's body is cold. It is quite below the degree for a normal body temperature. “Rachael! By that time, many of the passengers inside the bus had alighted from the bus when they got to their destinations. Silas whispers some words to the woman sitting beside him. The two of them had been engaged in a long conversation during the journey. In the conversation, she told Silas that she was going for the funeral of her father-in-law who died in a ghastly motor accident. She said the man was inside the car with his only wife when the accident happened. The man and the driver died at the spot. His wife on the other hand, only sustained a minor injury on her limb. When she gets to the sitting room, she sees a plateful of fried yam on the table. She can also see a bowlful of fried egg, a fork and a mugful of water. Rachael glances through the wall clock. The time is 6:50 am. She sits down close to the table. She says a short prayer and begins to eat her food. She isn’t a fan of fried yam, but she won’t allow the food to waste because she loves fried egg so much. She dips forkfuls of fried yam into the fried eggs and the food ends inside her stomach. As soon as Rachael drops the mug on the table after gulping the water, she sees Silas walking in the direction of the sitting room. Silas has his body exposed. He removes his jersey and boots and wears a brown polo shirt, oil-stained trousers and a pair of blue slippers. He clutches his phone and walks in the direction of the door. When Silas gets inside the kitchen, he washes the dishes. When he is done, he puts a pot on the lighted stove and starts the cooking. He wants to cook rice, but he changes his mind and decides to cook indomie because he is tired and he would love to go and get some zizz very soon. He is wearing a white apron as he carries a hot pot from the stove. He puts all the required ingredients inside the hot water, like Maggi, salt, sliced onion, tomato paste, pepper, etc., and places the pot back on the stove. The whole of Hawaii is full of noises as a result of people moving from one place to another because it’s a working day. The falling leaves and birds also constitute these noises. Since Malam Yusuf is now a stay-at-home husband, he is found at home most of the time. Except sometimes when he goes to visit his few friends. He will go to this friend’s house very early in the morning and return before midday. Malam Yusuf’s verdict is that exposure to too much sunlight causes bad color of the skin.
