“What are you doing here, Silas? You are even handcuffed,” Rachael said, but Silas remained silent. Silas is putting on only a pair of boxer shorts. His body is swollen as a result of the blows he has received.

“And is that a way of greeting?” corporal Ben said.

“Just leave her alone. She is a fool,” Malam Yusuf said, angrily.

“I am sorry, corporal. Good morning.”

“You should learn some office etiquette. Now have your seat.”

“Thank you, sir,” Rachael said. She sits down, gazing at Silas who is standing behind Malam Yusuf.

“Where is the money you took from my room?”

“The money?” “Corporal Ben, what’s going on here?”

“He asked you a question. Answer him first.”

“But I don’t know what he is talking about.”

“Really?” “Where did you see the money you gave to Silas to go and buy a car?”

The words of corporal Ben dropped on Rachael like a bombshell. She wishes the floor could open and swallow her up. “I collected a loan from a cooperative society.
