Richard Vaughn stood outside Haylee’s company, adjusting the gold cufflinks on his suit. He had been in plenty of business negotiations before. But this one was different. He wasn’t just here as a corporate representative. He was playing the role of an investor looking to “help” a struggling company. But in reality, he was here to set Haylee up exactly how Roman wanted.

Taking a slow breath, he rolled his shoulders back, put on a confident, reassuring smile, and walked through the glass doors. Inside, the reception area was quiet. A receptionist, a young woman in a cheap gray blazer, looked up from her desk, clearly bored out of her mind.

Richard strode over, flashing a polite smile.

“Good morning. I’d like to see Ms. Haylee. I’m an investor interested in a business opportunity.”

The receptionist blinked.

Then, after a beat of silence, she let out a dry laugh. “Investor? For this place?”

Richard kept his expression professional, but internally, he thought, ‘damn. That bad, huh?’

“Yes,

Haylee sat in her office, tapping her perfect nails against the desk and staring at her phone screen. For the past few days, she had been going back and forth in her mind, weighing her options.‘Should I sell?’ ‘Should I hold out for a little longer?’Selling the company felt like betraying everything she had built, but at the same time, she was sinking and no one was coming to save her. Not even Hamilton. Heck, even he was affected by this storm. He caused some parts of the company’s failure, and their stock prices were dangerously low.She exhaled sharply and pushed her pride aside, then dialed the number of the "investor" who had come to see her days ago.The phone rang twice before Richard Vaughn's smooth, professional voice came through."Ms. Haylee. What a surprise."Haylee forced a light chuckle. "I’ve been thinking about your offer."There was a brief pause. "And?"Haylee leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs. "Let’s set up a meeting. Hamilton’s heart was pounding. The moment he left Roman’s office, he sped straight to Haylee’s company, determined to prove that Roman was lying. There was no way Haylee would sell the company. No way at all. Sure, they were struggling. Sure, money was tight. But she wouldn’t just throw it away for a mere seven hundred thousand dollars. At least… that’s what he told himself. But when he pulled up to the office building, his entire body froze. Bright yellow "RESTRICTED AREA" tapes were plastered all over the building entrance. A group of construction workers were moving in and out of the building, removing signs, tearing down branding, changing everything already. It looked like they were getting ready for a complete overhaul. Hamilton’s mouth went dry. This wasn’t just a restructuring, this was a full-on takeover. She really did it. She really sold the company. His hands clenched into fists as he pulled out his phone, dialing Haylee’s number. The phone rang and rang, but she did not

Haylee walked into her mother’s house. Her heart was racing with fury and frustration. The door slammed shut behind her with an almost violent force, as if she wanted to shut out the whole world along with the man who had just thrown her out of his house, and stolen her money. She marched straight into the living room, where her mother, Fiona, was seated and watching television. But the noise from the television did nothing to soothe her. Fiona was always the one to calm things down, but today, nothing could fix the burning rage that swelled inside Haylee.Without missing a beat, Haylee dropped her bags onto the floor and plopped down onto the couch beside her mother. She threw her hands in the air, still seething. “I can’t believe it, Mom! He just kicked me out!”Fiona looked at her daughter with concerned eyes. But she was not surprised. She had always known that Hamilton was a weakling, someone who couldn’t handle pressure when things got tough. He was always the type to rely on H

Haylee sat on the cold pavement outside the house that used to be theirs with her knees pulled to her chest, and her arms wrapped around herself. The air was chilly, but nothing compared to the humiliation burning inside her.She had been kicked out by Roman of all people, from the very house she thought she was safe in. And now she was homeless. Homeless. The thought alone made her stomach twist.Fiona paced back and forth beside her. She was looking more pissed than distressed. Meanwhile, Marilyn sat quietly, scrolling through her phone like they hadn’t just been tossed out like yesterday’s trash. That was her own way of coping with the situation. Finally, after what felt like forever, Haylee let out a shaky breath and broke the silence.“We have to delete the video. We really have to.”Fiona stopped pacing immediately. She turned to Haylee with a look of pure disbelief. “Excuse me?”Haylee rubbed her arms to shake off the cold creeping under her skin. “Mom, we don’t have a choice

Roman went back home after having arrested Haylee and her cohorts. He stood at the large window in his apartment, staring down at the city lights below. He had a glass of whiskey that sat untouched on the table beside him. For the first time in weeks, there was silence. No battles to fight. No scandals to handle. No enemies lurking in the background, plotting his downfall. At least for now.Haylee. Fiona. Hamilton. All of them were done. And yet, something felt off. He should have felt satisfied, but instead, there was a strange emptiness settling in his chest. As if something was missing.Behind him, Kade strolled into the room, flipping his phone in his hand, and looking entirely too relaxed. “Damn, man. Roman went home disappointed as ever. He sat in his apartment that evening, staring at the wall while he fought a storm in his mind. Annabel’s words still echoed inside him.“That herb… it was the last one of its kind.”He had heard her clearly. Understood her perfectly. And yet, something deep inside him refused to accept it. There had to be more. There had to be another way. But no matter how much he tried to think of a solution, his mind hit a dead end. Maybe he was looking at it all differently. There had to be a better way to approach the situation, and because he was taking everything in at once, it was all overwhelming and not letting him think properly.Across from him, Kade leaned back on the couch, spinning a knife between his fingers. “So, let me get this straight. You went through all the trouble of taking Annabel out to a five-star restaurant… and she still didn’t tell you anything?”Roman exhaled slowly. “She couldn’t.”Kade scoffed. “Couldn’t or wouldn’t?”Roman didn’t

Roman didn’t waste time. The moment he had seen that landmark on the news, he knew he had to be there. But he wasn’t going as just another curious observer. No, he was going as the man in charge. Money could open doors, and Roman had plenty of it. So, he used it. He reached out to the archeological team, offered funding for the expedition, and just like that, he was no longer just watching history being uncovered. He was going to uncover it himself. And maybe, just maybe — he’d find the answers he was looking for. A few days later, Roman set out with the exploration team. He disguised it as an impromptu business trip to avoid rousing Kade’s suspicion, and to also add to his schedule for the days he planned to be out of the office. There were over a dozen people with him — researchers, trained survivalists, and local guides who knew the area. But none of them knew why he was really here.As far as they were concerned, he was just another investor wanting to be part of the adventure, an

Roman had a ball to be at. Something about business. The air inside the ballroom buzzed with muted conversation, the kind of carefully measured small talk that happened when some of the world’s most powerful people gathered in one place. Gold chandeliers bathed everything in a warm glow.Roman adjusted the cuff of his suit as he scanned the room. "You hate these things, don’t you?" Roman murmured, smirking.Kade exhaled sharply. "You’re asking me this now? After dragging me here?""You should thank me. Expanding your social skills is good for you.""My social skills are fine," Kade muttered. "I just prefer the kind of events where I don’t have to pretend I care about these assholes. Most of them are snakes.."Roman chuckled, but the humor didn’t quite reach his eyes. Something felt off. He turned slightly, gaze sweeping the room. No obvious threats. But the feeling wouldn’t shake. And then, glass shattered. A scream followed. Then gunfire. The air ripped apart with the violent sound

Victor Moreau's confidence shattered in an instant. One second, he had been on top of the world. The next, his phone screen was lighting up with a disaster as he realised he had been played."WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED?!"His voice echoed through the office as he slammed his glass onto the desk, sending shards of crystal skidding across the polished wood. The reports in front of him didn’t make sense. Their investors, the ones who were supposed to buy out Roman’s remaining shares were being exposed as frauds. Publicly. The stock market had reacted like a kicked beehive, and now, instead of Roman collapsing, their entire scheme was unraveling. Damien, still eerily calm, skimmed through the leaked documents. The deeper he read, the tighter his jaw clenched."Roman…" he muttered as the realization dawned.Roman had set them up.They thought they were pulling his strings, but all along, he had been leading them exactly where he wanted them. Annabel noticed the shift in Roman that night. She tried to ignore it, but acting uninterested was not something she could do. She would talk about it today, even if she was sure that Roman would shut her out. “What’s going on, Roman?” she demanded. “You’re shutting me out.”He hesitated, then made a decision. He told her everything —the sabotage, the herb hunters, the warning call.Annabel was not impressed. “You’re fighting on two fronts, and you didn’t think I should know?”Roman sighed. “I didn’t want you to worry.”They spoke for a while and discussed strategies. The next few days, Roman played his role flawlessly. He let himself appear frustrated by the sudden legal and financial setbacks. He started making reckless decisions like intentionally selling shares, pulling investments, and acting erratic in public.Word spread fast. The empire Roman had built looked like it was cracking under pressure. Damien believed Roman was losing control.Kade would always say, “You better know

  • Unknown Caller

They agreed to speak further face to face, so Roman drove home. Kade didn’t bother knocking. The door slammed open, and he strode in. Without a word, Kade tossed a thick folder onto the table. A few pages spilled out, but Roman took his time picking them up, flipping through with lazy precision. The names Damien Vaughn and Victor Moreau were stamped all over the reports — contracts, cancelled permits, under-the-table deals that led straight back to them.Kade crossed his arms, waiting. His patience didn’t last long.“This is why your real estate deals keep hitting walls,” he said, voice tight. “They’ve been pulling strings, bribing people, blocking permits. Every damn move you make? They’re already ten steps ahead, making sure you fail.”Apparently, Damien had found a way to spite Roman. He seemed to have a new sponsor, and the timing was awfully suspicious.Roman smirked, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. “Let them think I don’t see it coming.”Kade’s frown deepened. “Wait. You’re

  • Assistant Calls

Roman was halfway through his third cup of coffee when his phone rang. Roman glanced at the caller ID. It was an assistant from the company he'd just bought from Reginald.“Talk to me.”“We have a problem,” the assistant said, cutting straight to the point. “The permits for the expansion project are stalled again. And there’s been an attempted buyout of one of our prime properties.”Roman sat up. “And who is behind it?”“We don’t know yet. The offer came through a shell company. But it’s clear someone’s moving against you. Lesser companies are getting approvals without any issues.”His jaw tightened. This wasn’t random. It was calculated. And he had a good idea why.Kade watched him closely. “Trouble?”“Looks like someone’s trying to choke out my business while I’m distracted.” Roman exhaled, rubbing his forehead. “We’re heading back there. We’ll only be there a day or two.”By the next day, Roman was back in the very country where his new company was located. He had employed quite a

  • The Broker

Roman and Kade staggered into a rocky outcrop, hidden beneath the jagged peaks. Their breaths came out in ragged puffs, as the adrenaline from their escape ran in their veins. Dust and debris clung to their clothes, and Kade’s left sleeve was torn where he’d barely dodged a blade. The mercenaries had caught up with them while they were driving and had blocked them upfront. They had to ditch the car and run after getting the tires blown out. They followed a path that was too narrow for cars to drive on, and before the group could mobilise themselves for foot pursuit, they finally escaped. For a long moment, neither of them spoke. Just the sound of their heavy breathing and the distant howl of the wind filled the silence. Then, Kade let out a sharp laugh — half exhilarated, half incredulous.“That,” he gasped, dragging a hand down his face, “was insane.”Roman sat on a boulder, exhaling slowly. He was still holding the herb they had risked their lives to retrieve, the small bundle of l

  • The Monastery

The monastery was quiet. Too quiet. Roman had expected some sign of life. Maybe a few monks that were still keeping the place going. But instead, unnatural silence stretched over the ancient stones.Kade noticed it too. He frowned and adjusted his bag as they stepped over the worn stone threshold. “Creepy. But that’s to be expected since we started this search.”Roman didn’t respond. He was already scanning the interior. The place was massive, built from weathered gray stone, with towering pillars reaching up to the high, vaulted ceiling. Faded murals lined the walls — scenes of devotion, monks in deep meditation, figures bowing before what looked like the herb they were searching for. The herb that could supposedly heal wounds no medicine could. The herb that someone else had tried to keep hidden.Roman could feel the gut-deep instinct that told him they weren’t alone even though the place felt deserted. He didn’t acknowledge it outright. Instead, he murmured, “We should move quickl

“You think they’re friendly?”Roman didn’t answer immediately. His eyes scanned the tree line, catching brief flickers of movement—figures slipping through the undergrowth, dark shapes blending with the green.“If they were friendly,” he finally said, voice low, “they’d have said hello by now.”Kade sighed, rubbing a hand down his face. “A hostile welcome committee.”The two of them kept moving, slow but steady, acting like they hadn’t noticed the shadowy figures. But their hands were close to their weapons, just in case. “Outsiders,” he said. “You do not belong here.”Roman’s grip tightened around the artifact in his pocket. He took a step forward, raising his hands in a non-threatening way. “We’re here for the temple’s secret. We have reason to believe we’re meant to be here.”The leader’s eyes went to the vial peeking from Roman’s fingers. Then he shook his head. “The temple does not welcome intruders. Turn back.”Roman met his eyes, unwavering. “I don’t think you understand. I ha
