“Why do you keep working here when you’re the chairman of the biggest conglomerate in the whole country? This work is beneath you. It breaks my heart to see you in this condition, young master.”

“Don’t call me that. I told you to stop this. I’m not the one you’re looking for.” Roman shook his head as the blonde woman wearing designer brands from head to toe approached him again.

This was the fifth time this month that she was coming here even after he told her to leave him alone.

He smacked his gloves together and dust floated around him. He stood and stretched, hearing his joints pop after another grueling day at the construction site.

His job was to clear debris from the area so the engineers could be free to continue work without obstruction. He was basically their janitor.

“I hired a private investigator to find out the truth. You just don’t remember your true identity because of the accident you were involved in. It took us three years to find you. Please come home and reclaim your rightful place.” She pleaded with tears in her eyes.

“Look. Today is my wedding anniversary, and I have plans. I can’t deal with this absurd situation anymore.” He turned to leave, but she shouted,

“Wait! Take this.” She stretched her arms and handed over two items.

A black card and an antique ring with detailed engraving.

“Go to the bank and check the balance by yourself. The password is your birthday. You’re one of the richest people in the country. Maybe when they confirm your identity, you’ll finally believe me. And the ring belonged to your mother. It used to be your most cherished possession. I’m hoping it will help jog your memory.”

He scoffed at her words. If not for the fact that she was dressed properly, and spoke eloquently, he would have assumed she was crazy.

Maybe she was just high on something.

He only accepted the items so she would leave him alone.

He watched her walk away and then enter an expensive sports car. As the car drove away, he saw another car that he recognised across the street, parked in front of a restaurant.

It belonged to his wife.

What was she doing there? And why hadn’t she called?

Could it be that she was also planning some surprise for him?

Thinking of that, he smiled.

He crossed over and then met his wife stepping out of the restaurant. He quickly approached her.

“Darl-” before he could finish his sentence, the words caught in his throat as he saw a man standing beside her, his arm wrapped possessively around her waist.

She saw him and her smile instantly vanished.

“You’re already here. Good. Now I don’t have to walk over to that filthy place you work at.” She paused, her face remained impassive, “ I want a divorce.”

“What do you mean, Haylee? Today is our anniversary.”

“It doesn’t matter. This marriage is no longer a good match for me. I just became the CEO of the company, and my networth is now 100 million dollars. The difference between our social status is now too much.” She responded coldly.

His eyes widened as he stared in shock at the woman he loved for three years.

“So you want to toss me aside, just because you became the CEO? Have you forgotten that I was the one doing everything to make you comfortable while you pursue your career? Now, you say you want a divorce because of my low status, but I don’t think that’s the main reason.

As he said that, she had a flash of guilt on her face. It was true that she got this far with his support.

“You’re right. You helped me with domestic things, but what I really need help with is my career. You can’t help me with that in any way. This man with me is Hamilton Dane, the first son of the Dane family, one of the four powerful families in the city. He has connections, prestige and resources to help with my company’s expansion. You have none of that.” She said to him, and he scoffed.

“That’s all? You just want a man to match your new status. And you think this man is your best option?”

“Look, what I do is none of your business, and I don’t want us to enter a legal battle. I appreciate all your help so far, but we’re no longer a good match. It’s as simple as that. This is the divorce agreement.”

She handed him the document. “Don’t worry, I will compensate you properly in return. Two million dollars should be enough. After all, even if you work at your job for five years, you’ll never be able to make that much.”

“Wow. Really? His job is that trashy? No wonder you want to leave him. He’s worth less than the shoes on my feet. How pathetic. I bet the money I make in an hour is more than what you make monthly.” Hamilton laughed at Roman with a haughty expression on his face.

“Look, Roman, if two million was not enough for you, I can make it three million, but that’s my final offer.” Haylee said to Roman to try and pacify him.

She was sure that he would easily agree to the divorce because of the money, until he spoke and she realised he didn’t care about the money at all.

“Is that really what all our three years of marriage means to you? A few digits? Is money and status more important than all the time we spent together?”

“Don’t act like you don’t need the money. You’re poor and wretched. Look at you, dressed in rags and covered in dust.” Hamilton sneered at him with a disgusted expression. “You don’t even deserve to breathe the same air as people like us. I wonder how you can live with yourself when your existence is this miserable. If I were you, I would just kill myself.”

“Enough Hamilton.” Haylee interrupted him, then faced Roman again, waiting for his decision.

She had clearly made up her mind, and there was nothing he could do to change it. He just signed the divorce agreement, and turned away from them.

“Wow! You’ve migrated from being a petty thief to a full time criminal.” Fiona laughed as she got up from the floor, completely forgetting about her pretense of being in pain.“Do you really think that you can deceive us? Other people may be fooled, but we’ve known you for years since you married my sister. Those who own black cards are among the most powerful people in the country. And this is a supreme black card. That means you stole it from the richest family in the country. I don’t know how you managed to do that, but when they discover your crime, they could have you killed. Do you even realise that?” Marilyn shook her head and scoffed at Roman. She looked at him like he was the most stupid person she had ever known, then her gaze became calculating. If she could be the one to report the stolen property, maybe she would be given a reward.Maybe she would even be invited to join the richest family in the country for dinner and start building connections from there. She had always

Fiona stuttered because she didn’t know what to say in response to Annabel’s words. She just held Marilyn’s hand and walked out of the bank.“Don’t worry, mum. I’m sure they’ll discover we’re telling the truth when he tries to withdraw from that card. There’s no way he knows the password. They will see that he’s a scam and he’ll be arrested, possibly treated even worse than they treated us just now.” Marilyn said as she tried to soothe their wounded pride.“You’re right, Mari. Then we’ll demand an apology from them, and maybe even compensation. But first, we need to call Haylee and let her know what happened here.”She took out her phone and dialled Haylee’s number. As soon as the call connected, Fiona didn’t even give her first daughter a chance to say hello, she immediately began to rant.“You’ll never guess what happened, Haylee. We just met your good for nothing ex-husband. I’m so glad you finally listened to reason and divorced him.”“Mum, slow down. Just tell me what happened.”

Haylee's eyes widened when she heard that Annabel was a senior director at the Prime Royale Bank. She quickly tried to compose herself, but her cheeks were flushed, and her palms were beginning to get sweaty. Being ignored by Rachael made her even more jealous because the woman was so comfortable speaking with Annabel. She stared at Roman with narrowed eyes, waiting for him to look at her so she could give him a signal that they needed to talk. Roman didn’t look at her though. His attention was focused on his conversation with Rachael after Annabel introduced him to her. Haylee’s grip on her wine glass tightened, but she had to force her grip to relax in order not to ruin her manicure. She was having a weird achy feeling in her heart, and her chest seemed tighter, making it a bit hard to breathe. • THE TRILLIONAIRE'S UNDERSTATED DOMINANCE   The Auction

Hamilton glared at Roman as he walked away. Did he think this was a joke? How dare he say he would bid for the ring? “Don’t listen to him, Hamilton. He’s just bluffing. He has no money to bid with. He’ll just embarrass himself.” One of his female admirers said to him.He smiled at her, realising she was right. There was no need to worry. They mingled for a little while before it was time to begin the auction. The first item on the list was a vase that was crafted by an artist who was late. It was among his final works before he passed away, and that made it valuable. About ten people bid on it before it was finally sold for eight hundred thousand dollars.Next was a pearl earring set that belonged to a matriarch of a foreign country, and had been recently acquired after being displayed in a museum for two years. Hamilton immediately saw a chance to flaunt his wealth, and bid for the earring.“The starting bid for the earrings is three hundred thousand dollars.” The auctioneer announ

Hamilton was pissed off because Roman dared to bid for the ring.“You’re being so confident because you have Miss Annabel seated beside you. Trying to take advantage of her will not work at this auction. You seem to be unaware of the rules, and that could get you in trouble.” He said to Roman.“Don’t act like you’re concerned for my well being.” Roman scoffed at Hamilton.“And he’s well aware of the rule that no one can pay on behalf of another person once they bid on an item. The person who pays must be the same person who bids. I gave him the list of rules before we came.” Annabel said with a smirk as she looked in Hamilton’s direction.“And does he know what will happen to him when he fails to pay for the item with such a high bid?” Hamilton asked. He didn’t get a response to his question because the auctioneer began to speak again.“Two hundred million, going once. Going twice,”“Two hundred and ten million.” Hamilton said as he raised his bidding pad.He immediately put his hand

This time, the reaction to Roman’s high bid was not silence. The whole room erupted in an uproar of voices, all trying to speak at the same time. Everyone wanted to find out what gave Roman the audacity to announce such a high bid. Hamilton sat back and gave up.“Five hundred million, going once. Going twice!” The auctioneer paused for a few seconds, then said, “Sold to Mr Roman. Congratulations, the ring is yours.”Suddenly, Hamilton smirked. He realised that he hadn’t lost. Roman fell for his trick. He almost let his pride make him forget his initial reason for raising the bid. He wanted to trap Roman into bidding more than he could handle, so Roman could get in trouble with the owner of the auction house. This was a win-win situation for him. He just had to stand back, and watch Roman face the consequences.“I can’t believe he made such a high bid.” Haylee said to herself with a frustrated sigh. But Hamilton heard her because they were seated so close together. Annabel did not want to laugh, even though it was very funny to see Janice's look of horror.Janice’s face was still very flushed. "You’re impossible," she snapped and picked up her drink. "Both of you. One day, you’ll look back and wish you’d listened to me." Freya waved as Janice stormed off. "Love you too, Aunty!" The moment Janice was out of earshot, Annabel rested completely on the lounge chair. "God, she’s so exhausting." Freya threw another grape into her mouth. "Eh, she’s just pissed because no one’s ever bought her a grand hall full of burgundy decorations." She smirked. "It was rented, Freya," Annabel rolled her eyes. Freya ignored her. "Speaking of, when do I get to meet Kade? I feel like he and I would get along." "I'm sure you guys will get along well. You're both full of humour, both dark and otherwise." Annabel said. "Hand me some of those grapes please."Freya gave her the bowl of grapes and cleared her throat. "So, when's Roman taking us to dinner?" Annabe

The next day after Roman's visit, Annabel went to talk to her aunt, Janice. She found her sitting by the pool side. The air smelled of chlorine and freshly cut grass, as well as the faint scent of citrus from Aunt Janice's perfume. Janice was sitting on the edge of a lounge chair and holding a glass of gin and tonic. Annabel sat beside her."Aunt Jan," Annabel called. Janice looked at her. "What was that about yesterday?""What was what about?" Janice feigned ignorance. Annabel sighed. "You ambushed my boyfriend back there with your weird questions. You've never done that before, why did you have to do it today? It was so embarrassing."Janice chuckled. "Oh, that? How's that embarrassing? I was only looking out for you.""And you went about it wrongly. That was his first time here as my boyfriend, and you talked about how expensive his watch is. That is just wrong, Aunt Jan." Annabel's anger was visible now. "You know you could have just let it be a nice day. Now it looks like you'

Roman did not wait to get into his living room before loosening his belt. He was very tired, even though he had spent the day doing absolutely nothing but sitting with the Maxims. He was supposed to rest from work, but decided to see them instead for Annabel's sake. He didn't have regrets of the time they spent together, but he was still exhausted.Kade looked up at him. He was sitting down and watching a show. "How'd it go?" Kade asked. "Almost fine," Roman said in a low voice. "Almost? Did something happen?" Kade asked. 'Almost fine' was not a very good response, and Roman didn't even look excited. "Well, you'd think that when you've met someone you love, that their family will just be as amazing as that person is." Roman scoffed. "Let me guess," Kade raised a finger, "her father did not like you. But you'd look much more angrier if her father didn't like him. I reckon it's some other insignificant issue. Should I be expecting a feud?""It's not a feud," Roman said. "Yet," Ka

  • Reintroduce Him

The family ate in silence for a while before Annabel's father spoke. "I see some of your cases on the news, Roman," he said, "and you always win, which is a good thing. But don't these court wars affect your company adversely?"Roman was chewing, so he took his time before answering the question. "Well, the first case I had was against my own family members who wanted to push me out of the picture, just so they could take my company for themselves. Of course it wasn't easy, but after I got the company, I revived its finances that my extended family had managed to almost ruin. I know this happened a while back, but I just wanted to use that as an example. Once people saw the good I was doing, that made the rumours quiet ""And the other cases? Not all of them are so clean cut.""Well, it was just two. The other one was against a group of siblings who sued me for buying their father's company that he refused to give to them, because of how irresponsible they were." Roman answered. "I

When Roman returned home smiling from ear to ear, Kade knew there was good news. "I don't have to guess, do I?" Kade asked him and Roman smiled even more."She said yes," he grinned. Kade rolled his eyes. "Of course she did. Now, I can get a break from the anxious version of yourself? It's not even a marriage proposal, and you're this excited."Roman ignored him and went up to his room to change up. He hummed happily and just continued smiling. Nobody ever told him that loving someone again would be this beautiful. Not like he didn't know, but well, he was very excited. Soon, he got back down to meet Kade who was holding a glass of whiskey in one hand, and a book in the other. "Well, if you're done blushing, can we discuss business now?" Kade raised a brow. "The Valeys, you remember them right? They have sent a partnership proposal for one of their projects yet again. But this time, it looks better than the last one."Roman remembered the Valeys. They were a group of brothers fro

"Roman, you look alright," Kade said. He was rolling his eyes for what seemed like the fiftieth time Kade scoffed. "Is this the first date you guys are having? Come on, man. You are going to be late."They were still investigating and trying to find ways to get advantage over the hunters, but life had to continue regardless.Speaking about that... Roman looked at his Cartier wristwatch. He was actually going to be late if he did not get going now. "Should I just take the tie along?" He asked Kade again. Kade shook his head and faced the television instead. "I don't think this is a serious event, because if it was, you would have left already. Poor Annabel must think she's being stood up."Roman sighed. "Kade, I am trying to impress a lady here. I could really use some help, not all those snide remarks you've been throwing at me.""You look good!" Kade exclaimed as if that would make Roman believe him. "Where did all your confidence go?""Well, if you had a love interest in your li

  • Summoning Him

The safehouse they found was a forgotten shack in the middle of nowhere. Enough to keep other hunters off their trail. The kind of place where the walls absorbed screams and the wind carried away secrets before they ever touched the air.Inside, Roman stood over their captured Hunter. The Hunter, bound to a rusted chair, looked far too comfortable for someone with a dislocated shoulder and a knife wound in his leg. He grinned through bloodied teeth, as if this was all some kind of inside joke only he was in on."You’re too late," he muttered, shaking his head. "The moment you learned the truth, you were already behind."Roman’s jaw flexed. He leaned down, resting his hands on the armrests of the chair, getting close enough that the Hunter could see the fire in his eyes. "Then let’s see how much time you have left."The Hunter just smirked.Kade, standing off to the side, exhaled sharply. "We’re wasting time. Let me handle this." His fingers twitched toward the hilt of his knife, his

The fortress with its crumbling stone walls stretched toward the sky, jagged and broken, like the ribs of some ancient beast left to rot. The place reeked of decay, the air thick with dust and the distant scent of rain. This was one of the locations that they had decided would be better for their ambush plan against the hunters. Roman stood at the edge of a ridge on the fortress, scanning below. From up there, it looked like a dead place—silent, abandoned. The perfect stage for what they were about to do. He adjusted the strap of his holster, rolling his shoulders. Annabel crouched beside him, tying back her dark hair. Her eyes were sharp. "Are we sure they’ll actually show up? What if they saw through the fake intel?""They’ll show," Kade muttered. He was a few steps back, leaning against a rock wall, adjusting his rifle. His wound from the last fight was still healing, but if it hurt, he didn’t let it show. "Those people don’t ignore a lead on the book. Doesn’t matter if they smel

A slow smirk tugged at his lips.Roman didn’t waste time. “I’m done waiting. You’re going to tell me everything. I don’t have time for your cryptic messages.”Specter smiled. His smile scared Annabel a bit. “Everything?” Specter leaned back, tilting his head. “That’s a lot to ask for. I don’t even think I have the whole story.”Roman’s gaze was unyielding. “Then start talking.”A beat of silence. Then, with a slow exhale, Specter laced his fingers together and leaned in.“You’re not just some random target, Roman. As you may already know, you’re the last of an ancient bloodline.
