An Extra Guest

The room fell silent, stunned by Lord David's sudden change in demeanor.

Yona broke the silence, her voice sharp with disbelief.

“Grandpa, are you serious?” she demanded, her eyes blazing.

“You want him, some low-class nobody, to join our family?”

Her glare shifted to Liam, filled with unbridled contempt.

Slap!

The sharp crack of Lord David’s hand striking Yona’s cheek echoed like a whip.

Yona stumbled back, her hand flying to her burning cheek, her eyes wide with shock and humiliation.

Lord David’s hand trembled as he lowered it, his face dark with fury.

“Watch your mouth!” he growled, his voice low and dangerous.

Yona stammered, her voice trembling.

“But… he’s—”

“Liam is the grandson of my best friend!” Lord David snapped, cutting her off. “They were already engaged twenty years ago. Do you have any questions about that?”

Yona’s lips pressed into a thin line, silenced by his words.

Mia’s eyes widened, her mind racing to process what she had just heard.

Liam stood still, his expression unreadable as Lord David’s words settled over the room.

Lord David’s gaze softened as he turned back to Liam, his voice calmer now.

“You see, Shawn Moran once saved my life, and I promised to unite our families. Your engagement to Mia fulfills that promise.”

Mia’s heart sank.

This wasn’t the outcome she had planned for.

Her original idea had been simple: solve the immediate problem, pay Liam to leave quietly, and inform her grandfather they had broken up.

But this twist had upended everything.

The random man she had hoped to discard was, in fact, her real fiancé.

Lord David’s stern demeanor shifted again, this time to a warm smile.

He extended a hand toward Liam, his tone apologetic.

“I’m sorry you had to see that. My granddaughter can be… unruly.”

Liam nodded once, his expression neutral, as if weighing the situation.

Lord David smiled, clearly pleased with his response.

“We’re having a family dinner tonight,” he continued. “It would be an honor to have you join us.”

The Stevens family dinner was an exclusive affair, reserved only for members of the inner circle.

Mia’s stomach twisted as she realized her grandfather had just extended this invitation to Liam.

Liam hesitated for a moment, his gaze steady on Lord David.

Then he nodded.

“I’d be happy to attend,” he said simply.

Lord David’s face lit up, his joy unmistakable.

“Wonderful!” he exclaimed, clapping his hands together. “This will be good for all of us.”

Yona’s eyes darted between Mia and Liam, her face twisted with barely contained rage.

She shot Liam a withering glare before storming out of the room.

Mia stood frozen, her mind a whirlwind of emotions.

This wasn’t how her life was supposed to unfold.

She had always envisioned marrying someone powerful, wealthy, and polished—someone who matched her beauty and status.

But instead, she was now engaged to Liam, a man who had turned her carefully controlled world upside down.

Mia’s fists clenched at her sides, frustration simmering beneath her composed exterior.

Finally, she turned toward the door, her movements abrupt.

“Where are you going?” Liam asked, his tone neutral.

Mia stopped in her tracks but didn’t look back.

“Don’t come to dinner,” she said coldly. “I’ll explain everything to my grandfather tonight.”

Without waiting for a response, she left the room, her heels clicking sharply against the floor.

Liam watched her go, his expression calm but unreadable.

Once alone, he sighed softly and made his way to the lobby.

A man in his mid-forties stepped forward as soon as Liam appeared.

He bowed deeply, his posture respectful.

“I am Jack Gunter, at your service, young master.” he said.

Liam raised an eyebrow, his gaze sharpening.

"Don't do that. I don't want to expose my identity here."

Jack straightened quickly, noticing Liam’s cool expression.

“My apologies if I’ve been too forward,” Jack said hastily.

Liam’s voice was calm but firm.

“Why are you here?”

Jack followed a step behind as Liam walked toward the elevator.

Reaching into his coat, Jack produced a small velvet box.

He opened it to reveal a sleek gold card embedded with a dark obsidian diamond.

“This is one of the few Royal Master Cards, with a 100-million-dollar credit limit, for your personal use.”

Jack explained, holding it out with both hands.

Liam glanced at the card, his expression disinterested.

Jack continued eagerly.

“I’ve also arranged the newest Ferrari, a custom model equipped with the latest technology and engine.”

He held out the car key, his face brimming with pride.

Liam hesitated, his thoughts shifting quickly.

Driving a car worth millions would draw unwanted attention and blow his cover.

“Where’s your car key?” Liam asked suddenly.

Jack blinked, momentarily confused, but recovered quickly.

“Of course…” he said, retrieving his own car keys and handing them to Liam.

“Take this Ferrari as a compensation, I need a low-profile car.” Liam said casually.

"What..." Jack was stunned.

The elevator dinged as it reached the ground floor.

Liam stepped out, pausing to turn back.

Grabbing the gold card from Jack, he slipped it into his pocket.

“I’ll take it for emergencies. And send me the address of Stevens's mansion. ”

Liam smiled.

Mia Stevens…You wanna run away?

Liam turned around and left.

“Young master, please wait…”
