“It’s not a date,” Mia said softly.

“I think we can agree to disagree on that,” Liam replied and sat beside her with a wry grin on his face.

A brief silence quickly engulfed them, then Mia coughed awkwardly, reached beside her, and brought out a bottle of champagne with two glasses,

“Champagne?” She asked, handing Liam the glass.

Liam gazed at her and smiled coyly, “Champagne? Starting to seem more and more like a date.”

Mia smirked and was about to pop open the bottle when Liam suddenly grabbed it from her, “Allow me.” He said kindly.

“Such a gentleman,” Mia teased flirtatiously.

After popping the cork, Liam poured the drinks into their glasses, and then suddenly his expression turned serious and grim,

“What are we doing here, Mia? Why did you really invite me over? It couldn’t have just been to apologize considering you could have easily done that on the phone.”

Mia heaved a deep sigh and took a swig of her drink. It seemed like the jig was up.

She stood up worldlessly and started

Mia smiled and said, “Didn’t think you’d notice that, but yeah, Celine has been on to Peter for years and says she’s so close to exposing him. She’s just looking for strong evidence to tie all this together. If we can get these documents from him, we can reveal details of his offshore accounts and this might just be the thing to tie all this together and finally expose him.” Mia said convincingly.Liam on the other hand was not moved. He knew it was going to take more than a few offshore accounts to permanently put a man like Peter Nelson down.“That won’t be enough,” he said.Mia’s gaze deepened, and a mix of confusion and annoyance laced his face. She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could say anything, Liam quickly interjected, “I know men like Peter, and I know it’ll take more than some offshore accounts to permanently put him down. However, I will help you.”Upon hearing those words, Mia’s lips curled in excitement.Immediately, she felt an air of relief. Not only was Li

Liam looked at her confusedly, and without saying anything, Mia held his hand and led him to another section of the room. She shot him a warm smile, reached the top shelf, and brought out a small tiny box.Liam stared at her curiously, “What’s this?”“I don’t know. My grandfather bought it years ago. He said it belonged to your family and he couldn’t let it get into the wrong hands.” Liam became intrigued and slowly grabbed the box from Mia. He shifted his gaze towards her once more and then slowly opened the box. His eyes widened as he saw the item in the box - a tiny crystal vial.“What is it?” Mia asked.“I don’t know.” He said.“If it’s something that belonged to my family, there should be some clue about what it is,” he paused and slowly returned the vial to the box, “I’ll find out what it is. Thank you, Mia.”Mia nodded and they stood in silence for a while. Clearing his throat, Liam turned to leave, but just before he got to the door, Mia’s voice sounded in his ear, “Uhm, Liam?

Don’t tell me…” she paused and Mia pinched the bridge of her nose in humiliation. She knew her sister had probably figured it out.“You two finally did it, didn’t you?” She asked and without waiting for Mia’s response, added in a teasing tone, “Really Mia? And here I was thinking that Liam was the dog.” She said and her expression changed into a mocking stare, “Come on Mia, you knew you could have done better. I know you haven’t gotten any action in a long time but you didn’t have to go back to the same vomit as last time?”At this time, Mia could

She cupped her face in her palms for a few moments and then her eyes narrowed in anger and she raised her arm and just then Lord David walked into the room, with Melissa and Carl following behind slowly.“Enough! We are in a deep mess with the Nelsons now, and if we are not going to solve anything by fighting amongst ourselves.” He said with an air of authority and turned towards Mia, his gaze softening immediately,“Do you know how any of this happened?”“I don’t,” Mia replie

Liam walked away after saying that, leaving Lord David frozen in place with a mix of confusion and suspicion. Just like Liam, there were some things his best friend did that he was not able to explain. Things that made him question his status and who he really was.As he stood now watching him walk away, he could not help but wonder if there were some secrets that the Maron family were hiding. As much as he wanted to believe that these were all coincidences, the pieces were not adding up. “What is it, Grandpa?” Mia asked, seeing the disturbed look on Lord David’s face.“It’s from Peter Nelson.” Lord David said with an anxious look on his face.“He says we should choose our sides wisely, or fall.”The words sounded even more ominous than what Mia had imagined. She clenched her fist in annoyance. Peter Nelson was getting too comfortable with messing with her family and it was about time she returned the favor. “Do not worry about this Grandpa. Even though it turned out not to be so safe,” he paused, staring at Liam pitifully,“Your grandfather did not want to tell you, but after you left the country, your home was attacked and the only thing they took was the key. We combed the city looking for it, but never found it.”“Peter’s plans would not work if he doesn’t have the key, but even if he somehow manages to get his hands on it, he’ll need to bypass the security measures encrypted in the neural facility before he can even get a chance to use the key.”Liam listened attentively, appalled by the new information he was receiving.“How do you know so much about this neural facility and how come I’ve never heard of it?” He questioned curiously. The rain had stopped, but the clouds still hung low, heavy and quiet. Liam sat on the edge of the rooftop, watching the city lights flicker through the mist. Behind him, the door creaked open and soft footsteps followed. Mia sat beside him, pulling her coat tighter around her, her face filled with unsaid questions, and for a moment, neither of them said anything. Then she whispered, “Can I ask you something?”Liam didn’t look at her. He only smiled coyly and said. “You already did.”Mia smiled faintly and shifted towards him. “I mean something real.”Sensing the depth in her tone, Liam nodded slowly. “Go ahead.”Mia shifted, resting her hands in her lap. “Why do you always hold back?”He turned to her, finally meeting her eyes, but confused about the question.“I’m not talking about the war, or the missions,” she added quickly. “Not the Tribunal, not Peter, not Darius. I mean… you. The person behind all of it. I know you’ve been trying. You’ve let me in more these past few weeks than

As he arrived at Taeger, the room was quiet, too quiet for something that carried so much weight. Liam sat alone at the long glass table, his back straight, expression unreadable. The walls were white, clinical, but the air was thick with tension. Around him, the Tribunal members took their seats—six in total. At the head of the room stood Senator Vaughn, hands behind his back, wearing that usual smug look like he already knew the outcome.“Since Mr Moran has decided to join us today, the meeting will now begin,” one of the older members announced. “We are here to review the ownership and handling of Peter Harrow’s estate, specifically research rights,

And while I don’t say it often enough… I see your loyalty. And I admire it.”Mia didn’t answer right away. The message was clear and direct — Your presence is needed at the Taeger urgently. Liam sat up and glanced around the room. Mia was nowhere close. He stood up and walked down to the meeting room and everyone was there. He hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should tell them the message he had gotten but before he could even make up his mind, Jack noticed the look on his face and asked. “What’s going on Liam? You look disturbed.” Liam darted his eyes across the room and then heaved reluctantly, “I’ve been summoned by The city and the Tribunal. I think I know what this is about.” The room fell silent for a long while and then Jack nodded and stood up, “Then we all go.” He said and without waiting for Liam’s approval, the group marched out. After a short drive, they arrived at Taeger. • The Final Flame

Liam stood, bloodied and broken, panting heavily after the fight. It seemed Mia had saved him. Her words were just the echo he needed to pull out of the Ogini’s hold. Darius was dead and the Ogini was slowly fading away. Finally everything was over, or at least so he thought. Around them, the walls of the chamber cracked and groaned. The ground trembled beneath their feet as the Ogini’s energy flared out of control.Liam’s eyes widened in shock as he watched Darius rise to his feet across the room. “Impossible!” He muttered to himself.Darius’ body twisted, reshaped by the Ogini into something unrecognizable. A fusion of beast and nightmare. His skin burned like molten stone, his eyes pitch-black voids that leaked dark light. One thing was clear to Liam at this point, whatever that was, it was far from human and had no consciousness of its own. He roared, the sound shaking the very air.“You think love makes you strong?” he bellowed. “It makes you weak!He raised his hands, tearing op

As the light continued increasing, it became almost blinding till everything turned white and Liam blacked out. He woke up a while later, pressing his hand against the floor to look around. The air was thick and alive, filled with energy that crackled and pulsed through the walls like lightning. He was lying on stone, but it felt like it was breathing. The chamber around him glowed with deep red and black light, dark veins of Ogini energy running across the floor and ceiling. And in the center of it all stood Darius. No longer the man Liam once knew. His form had changed completely, part man, part monster. His skin shimmered like black stone cracked with fire underneath. His eyes burned bright with the mark of the Ogini, and long tendrils of energy moved behind him like shadows with a mind of their own.“Mia…” Liam whispered as he looked past Darius. Suspended in a large, floating crystal of pure black, Mia hung unconscious. Her face was peaceful, but her body was limp, trapped in the

The deeper Liam and his team went, the more the place felt like a trap. It was as if the walls themselves were pulsing with a heartbeat not their own and every turn they were taking was edged with danger.“Stay sharp,” Jack whispered, his steps light. He drew his gun and cocked it.Liam nodded, but his focus was elsewhere. There was that feeling again—deep in his chest, clawing at his senses. It wasn’t pain, and it wasn’t fear. It was the Ogini. He could feel its presence crawling closer like smoke through cracks, beckoning on him the closer he got.“Do you feel that?” Liam asked Mara, who walked just behind him.She glanced around, her grip on her weapon tightening. “Like something’s breathing down our necks.”“I think it’s welcoming us.” She added. They moved silently, despite the warnings of the Ogini, deeper through the corridor until the tunnels opened into a twisted hall of horrors. Then suddenly, the walls changed.Gone were the smooth stone and steel. Now, they were lined with

Suddenly, he heard a sharp static buzz in his ear again and then Mia’s voice.“Liam… help me…”Liam stopped immediately, and Jack turned around. “You hear it again?”Liam nodded, clenching his jaw. “She’s close.”The static shifted again, twisting the sound until Darius’s voice broke through, calm and mocking.“She’s waiting, Liam. You’re almost there. Don’t stop now.”Liam’s hand curled into a fist, his mind filled with rage.“Keep it together,” Jack warned noticing the shift on his face. “You know this is what he wants.”“I don’t care,” Liam snapped. “He has her and I’m not backing off.”Jack exhaled tiredly. “I’m not saying back off. I want to find her as well, but at least slow down. If you rush in, we all die.”
