Lord David remained quiet for a while, contemplating what Carl had said. He was not sure what to do, Liam had raised his suspicions more and more, and even though he was Shawn’s grandson, Lord David could not help but feel a trace of doubt about him now.

“I know you want to believe Liam isn’t a problem, we all do, but this is mostly to protect Mia.”

When Carl said Mia’s name, Lord David’s brows arched with intrigue, but before he could say anything, Carl quickly added, “When they do separate, he’s going to want to take her down with him. Having seen how he’s been lately, I have a feeling he’ll drag her to many court cases, stir up rumors and whatever he can say to get attention and that whole process is going to eat Mia up mentally.”

“We’ve already seen how fast rumors can spread with this Victor thing, let’s not give the media something more to talk about by creating a public divorce drama. For Mia.” Carl said, faking an air of concern.

Despite their look of concern, Carl and Yona h

Liam’s response took the family by surprise. Mia’s gaze shifted quickly towards him, confused by his willing participation. She’d expected he’d put up a little fight, but upon seeing how willing he was to go along with this, she felt disappointed and worried. Did he not want to be with her? Was he rejecting her?She had never been in a position where she was rejected by a man, and Liam had just casually turned down an opportunity to be entitled to millions of dollars by refusing her. Yona on the other hand was beyond thrilled. Without any thought, she grabbed the documents from Carl and handed them to Liam,“Just sign your initials here, and here.” Liam clicked the pen, shifted his gaze one more time towards Mia, then drew a deep breath and signed his name across the document. However, before he handed it over to Lord David, he stopped, staring at him intently,“You all think I’m the problem, but I promise you I’m not the one you should be worrying about.” He started.“What are you

After spending much time rejecting him and not wanting this marriage, you finally fall when it’s too late to do anything about it. Amusing!” Yona chided.Mia creased her brows in annoyance. She wanted to say something and deny Yona’s claims, but she could not find the words. Yona was right. She could not tell exactly when or how, but she’d fallen for Liam, and now it wasn’t that easy to let go of him.“Come on Sis, you can do better. Don’t let that pathetic loser ruin our victory here today.” She paused, matching Mia’s confused gaze with an excited look,“Liam is gone!” Yona exclaimed, “We won’t have to ever deal with that loser again. With those documents he signed, we are not just rid of him, but free too, knowing he won’t try to use this separation to steal from us.”Mia remained frozen in place for a little while, and then shook her head and walked out. Mia cleared her throat again, contemplating if she could trust Cecile with any of these. Even though they had a very close and personal relationship back on campus, it had been four years since then, and for all she knew this could have all just been an act and Cecile was not the same trusty person she’d always known her to be.Seeing her reluctance, Cecile’s gaze deepened. “I understand this may be quite serious before you’d decide to come to me about it, but I am working on the clock here, so whatever it is you have to tell me or need me to do, I suggest we get to it quickly.”Mia lifted her gaze and heaved a sigh. This flower was known as the devil’s rose for a reason. It was said that despite its beauty, just a drop of its nectar was enough to kill a man instantly.Liam had recognized the flower from his years of training in the mountains of Asia, where his old master, Lui Fheng had illuminated his knowledge on rare toxins and herbs that could be used for healing and any other purposes. They were said to grow in very cold and arid regions, under specific temperatures and their nectar could only

Jack led the way, weapons drawn, while Mara covered their rear with sharp eyes and steady hands. Liam walked in the middle, his mind far away. Suddenly, he heard a sharp static buzz in his ear again and then Mia’s voice.“Liam… help me…”Liam stopped immediately, and Jack turned around. “You hear it again?”Liam nodded, clenching his jaw. “She’s close.”The static shifted again, twisting the sound until Darius’s voice broke through, calm and mocking.“She’s waiting, Liam. You’re almost there. Don’t stop now.”Liam’s hand curled into a fist, his mind filled with rage.“Keep it together,” Jack warned noticing the shift on his face. “You know this is what he wants.”“I don’t care,” Liam snapped. “He has her and I’m not backing off.”Jack exhaled tiredly. “I’m not saying back off. I want to find her as well, but at least slow down. If you rush in, we all die.”

  • A Glimpse of the Abyss

The night was cold, and quiet, but sweat still dripped from Liam’s brow as he crouched behind a crumbled wall near the edge of the city. Jack stood a few steps away, holding a scanning device that pulsed with a faint blue light.“That’s the third spike in under an hour,” Jack said, eyes narrowing. “The Ogini left a trail when it surged through Darius. If we’re right, he’s hiding underground—beneath the old industrial district.”Mara tightened the straps of her vest. “Underground bunkers. Just our luck. Creepy, dark, and likely filled with God-knows-what.”Liam didn’t smile. His mind was filled with everything but amusement. “We check each one until we find her.” He said with conviction.Without any arguments, they moved quickly, silently, weaving through the shadows. The deeper they went into the ruins, the more the air changed—heavier, colder. Like the place itself had been touched by something unholy. The first bunker was empty, only filled with rusted tools and broken lights. Nothi

  • Pieces on the Board

Mia sat in the corner of the cold basement, now awake, her wrists bound, her head heavy. The walls around her pulsed with a faint red glow, like veins carrying something unnatural. Darius paced slowly in front of her, his face calm, and eyes fixed heavily on her. That eerie glow from the Ogini still lived inside him, and it was getting stronger.“You look tired,” he said with a soft smile, crouching in front of her. “This place drains you, doesn’t it?”She didn’t answer. Her eyes locked on him, full of fear but also something else, confusion and anger.Darius tilted his head, amused. “I don’t blame you for not trusting me. I wouldn’t trust me either. But I’m not your enemy, Mia. I’m just the one finally telling you the truth.”“Liam will come for me,” she said quietly, but her eyes carried the fire of a strong resolve.“I know,” Darius said with a grin. “That’s the plan.”He stood up and waved his hand. The room around them shimmered, and suddenly the walls fell away. Mia gasped as vi

  • Echoes in the Silence

Liam sat on the edge of the cot, staring at the cracked floor of the safe house. The silence felt heavy, like a warning. Something was wrong, Mia was gone, but as much as he wanted to believe that Darius was the one who took her, he couldn’t roll out everything yet for certain. Deep in his gut, he felt it twisting like a knife.Evelyn paced nearby, her phone clutched tightly in her hand. “Still no answer,” she said, her voice laced with worry. “I’ve called her three times. Her phone rings but then stops.”Jack stood by the door, arms crossed. He looked from Evelyn to Liam, frowning. “Let me go check her place. Maybe she just needed space.”Liam didn’t look up. He barely moved, his head was already filled with anxious thoughts. What if it was already too late? What if Darius had turned her into one of the Ogini’s puppets? How would he explain any of this to Lord Steven? Jack waited for his response, and when he didn’t get it, he grabbed his coat and left without another word.Minutes p

  • Snatched in the Dark

After Mia left the safe house, she wandered along the edge of the city, her steps slow and heavy with emotion. The night was quiet, but her mind was loud—full of questions, hurt, and the echo of Liam’s cold words. She pulled her coat tighter as the breeze swept through the empty streets. She glanced at her watch and it was just a few minutes past ten. The streetlights flickered above her, casting long shadows on the cracked sidewalks. She didn’t know where she was going. She just needed to be anywhere but the safe house. Anywhere away from Liam’s distant stare and the feeling that she no longer belonged. She eventually came to a stop near an abandoned train station and with a slow soft exhale, she sat on a bench, the wood damp beneath her, and exhaled.“You don’t look like you belong here,” a voice said.Mia flinched, frightened and turned. A man had taken the seat beside her. He was dressed in dark clothes, hood half pulled over his head. His face was calm, his smile polite, but some

  • The Ashes of Victory

The van rumbled through the wrecked outskirts of the city, but no one spoke. Liam sat in the back, slouched against the wall, his body aching with every bump in the road. His shoulder was torn open, blood soaked into the gauze Evelyn had hastily wrapped around him. Across from him, Jack stared at the floor, jaw tight. Mara’s eyes were still glowing faintly from the battle, but her expression was blank. There was no celebration. No sense of victory. Only silence.Peter was gone. But the Ogini… the Ogini had found someone worse — Darius. When they finally pulled up to the safe house, it was still dark. The building stood quietly, unchanged since the morning they left—but everything felt different now. The team moved slowly, exhausted in body and spirit. Inside, the lights flickered on. The place was eerily quiet. Liam collapsed onto the worn-out couch, wincing as the pain in his ribs flared. Evelyn knelt beside him with a first-aid kit, gently peeling back the soaked bandage.“You shoul

  • The Rise of a New Villain

The air was thick with smoke and dust, filled with the remains of Peter’s fortress. The battle was over, or at least that’s what Liam thought. He leaned against a crumbled wall, blood streaked across his face, his body aching from the fight. Around him, the enhanced soldiers stood quiet, still catching their breath. For a brief moment, there was silence, peace. Or something like it. Then Darius stepped forward.Liam looked up and immediately felt something was wrong. Darius didn’t look like himself anymore. His eyes glowed with a strange, dark light. His skin was pale, almost gray, and thin black veins crawled across his arms like vines. Liam could see it clearly now, the power of the Ogini rippled off him in waves, thick and heavy. It had fully taken control of Darius. But Darius wasn’t acting possessed. He didn’t move like someone under control. He moved like a man who had finally found his purpose.“You feel it, don’t you?” Darius asked, voice deeper than before. “The power. It’s r

Liam blinked his eyes slowly open. His head throbbed heavily and his vision was still blurry. For a second, he couldn’t remember where he was or how he got there. But then it all rushed back—Peter. The fight, the capture, the darkness. He tried to sit up, pushing through the dizziness. The air around him was heavy, like the weight of everything that had led to this moment had settled into the room. He looked around and realized he was deep inside Peter’s base. Cold walls, dim lights. The heart of the enemy’s lair. Then he heard a slow clap. Peter stood in front of him, arms folded, with a smirk stretched across his face.“Well, well,” Peter said, his voice calm but mocking. “Look who finally woke up.”Liam got to his feet, legs shaking but steady enough. He didn’t respond right away. He just stared at Peter, taking him in. This was it. The man who had caused so much pain. The man who chose power over everything else.Peter stepped closer, his eyes gleaming. “Still think you can win, L

  • Descent into Darkness

The atmosphere in the corridors of the base had changed. Liam moved silently through the main hallway, his eyes catching the flickers of red scanner lights, the whirring of automatic doors, the dull hum of the enhancement chamber far down the line. Evelyn’s words still pressed on him, but so was the weight of what he had to do.Darius had done the procedure on a few more volunteers from the Tribunal, and as Liam passed them, their faces were blank. Their eyes filled with chemical fire, but they also blank. One woman flinched as he passed, her arm twitching involuntarily like her muscles were trying to remember something human.Liam stopped right in front of her. Before now, she was a medic with warm eyes and a shy smile. Now her eyes were empty and dull. He didn’t even remember her name.He turned away, his heart sinking deeper than he’d admit to anyone. Each footstep he took weighed more than the last, and every face he passed was a reminder that the line had already been crossed—and
