CHAPTER 26

This was the last thing Harvey needed. Why did she return? He pondered, unable to ignore the tears streaming down her face.

"I'm sorry. I know you want nothing to do with me right now after our last encounter, and I don't blame you. But you're the only person..." Her voice trembled as she spoke, her desperation evident.

"I don't know who else I could speak to in the city," she continued, her words filled with uncertainty. The reason behind her tears remained a mystery to Harvey, but he knew he was about to find out.

"I couldn't go to the Darby. Grace would lose it at the sight of me. I heard what happened to Richard," she explained. Harvey's confusion deepened. "This is about Richard?" he asked, his perplexity etched on his face.

He chuckled, a bitter sound escaping his lips. "Here I was thinking you might feel remorseful for what happened in the past, but I guess you're completely unapologetic," he said, his frown conveying both disgust and disappointment.
