Chapter 4

Alex pinched himself to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. Alex had already told Chris his pathetic story. How his ex-family in-laws turned him into an errand boy. This was too much for him to take in. Just a few hours ago he was the servant son-in-law to the Kingston family. And now, he is the heir to a multi-trillionaire. This better not be a dream, he thought.

"I want you to contact my Butler. His name is Darius Rucker, he will settle the hospital expenses and take us home"

"Um okay," Chris gave Alex his Butler's contact, and after a few minutes, a man in a three-piece expensive suit who looked to be in his early fifties rushed into the ICU panting.

"Sir Chris… Oh my God, I've been so worried sick about you. I called you several times but it always went straight to voicemail. What happened…"

"Calm down Darius. Take a deep breath, I'm fine as you can see. It's just a few bruises here and there"

That was when Darius' breathing began gradually coming down to normal. "Thank God that you're okay Sir"

"All thanks to this young man…" He gestured towards Alex, "He saved my life. Please help me thank him. His name is Alexander Sterling"

"Thank you very much young master Alexander. You'll live to see your children succeed." Darius acknowledged Alex and he in turn bowed politely to accept the compliment.

"I've sorted out the bills Sir Chris, and the doctor said that I can now take you home"

"That's good. We're all going home together. May I officially introduce you to my adopted son, he will watch over my empires when I'm gone." Chris said.

Darius reiterated, "You're not going anywhere anytime soon Sir Chris."

They all made their way to the hospital's parking lot. Darius led them to a Rolls-Royce which screamed elegance and masculinity. Alex's jaw nearly reached the floor. He was going to enter a luxurious car for the first time in his life.

They finally arrived at the Columbus Estate Villa. This estate comprised about 20 gigantic mansions which were occupied by some of his trusted associates. This was more than what Alex had ever seen, this place was beyond explanation.

"Darius, take Alex to the East Wing Estate, which will be his home from now onwards. And also give him one of the Columbus black cards for his upkeep"

"Okay, Sir Chris." Darius took Chris to his room first and came out to help Alex to his room.

When they arrived at the estate in the east wing, Darius opened the glass door and let Alex in. His mouth literally went dry at the sight in front of him. This house is huge, how can I stay all alone in this million-called house, Alex thought.

"Young Master Alexander, here is the customized black card you'll use for your upkeep." Darius handed the stylishly made card to Alex, "You can even go shopping with it. If you exhaust the money please endeavor to let me know so that I can tell the family accountant to refill it."

Alex nearly jumped up for how fast his life had turned around. This was happening. But he was curious though, he wanted to know how much was in the black card.

"Um Darius, what is the approximate worth of this card?" He asked.

"Oh, it contains only 10 Billion dollars. If it isn't enough, I can always make arrangements for more" Darius said.

"No…No please, this is more than enough" Alex rushed out in one breath.

"OK then. A driver has been assigned to you. All you need to do is to call the number at the back of the card and he'll come and take you to wherever you want to go."

Darius was on his way out before he suddenly stopped, "Young Master Alexander, I think you need to go shop for new clothes." After that, he left.

Alex took his time and surveyed his new home. He was still finding it difficult to believe that he now has $10B to his name.

Who would have thought that the day he was shattered into a million pieces would be the day he was also repaired in more than a million ways?

He entered the room which seemed to be the master's bedroom, he entered the bathtub and nearly dozed off because of how comfortable it was.

After taking his bath, he wore the bathrobe in the bathroom, lay on the king-sized bed, and slept off.

*****

Alex woke up to a sound. He dizzily got up to discover that someone was knocking at the door. It was an electronic door that made it possible for him to see the people knocking from his room. He went downstairs and opened the door for them.

"Good Morning Young Master Alexander. We're sorry for waking you up abruptly. We're here to serve you, all you need to do is ask" One of the two females spoke. There were four in total, two males and three females.

"I don't think I understand what you just said," Alex said, confused.

"Okay, my name is Anastacia, I'm your new chef. Together with me here is Mira, she's your cleaner." She pointed at the other two men. "This is Mike your new driver and Henry your new laundry man." She clarified.

Alex was shocked, to say the least. He had never been treated with so much respect before.

"Alright, come in. There are five rooms downstairs, you can take one each and make yourselves comfortable. I'll call you when I need you"

"And Mike, please be ready in the next hour, I would like you to take me to any good shopping malls around."

"Okay Sir" Mike replied.

One hour later, Alex went to his father's house to check up on him before they left for the mall. They drove out in a Lamborghini Veneno Roadster car. In order not to attract unnecessary attention, he told Mike to drop him off a few blocks before the mall.

Alex was still in his faded jeans and worn-out shirt. He slowly made his way into the B & B shopping mall. Before now, he wouldn't have dared to look at this place not to talk of entering it, it was way above his level then.

Alex admired the grandeur of the interior of the shopping mall as he walked, before finally coming to a stop at the entrance to a famous clothing store, Louis Vuitton. Alex smiled again before entering inside.

The inside of the store lived up to its designer name. Luxury was the right word to describe it. There were different types of clothing ranging from casual wear to luxurious wear. He was still admiring the various clothes when a sales attendant rushed up to him.

He thought that she was about to oust him out of the place because of the way he was dressed. I mean, no normal stall would allow a wretched-looking fellow to enter their store.

"Hi Sir, my name is Sofia and I'll be your sales attendant for today. What would you like to buy from us?"

Alex didn't want any attention whatsoever so he decided to go for casual wear, "I would love to buy casual wear and maybe two well-tailored three-piece suits" It wouldn't be a bad idea to buy professional wear for his new position.

"Okay Sir, please this way" Sofia led him to the men's section where they picked casual wear and suites. Alex was happy with all that Sofia chose for him.

They were done selecting the clothes, and on their way to calculate the clothes and make payments, Alex stumbled on something or someone and the whole cloth fell. He acknowledged that it was his fault because the clothes were too many and it blocked his vision.

"Watch where you're going you blind bat." The angry voice boomed.

Alex heard that too-familiar voice that he could recognize anywhere. He looked up to meet the people he never expected to see again, Victor and Cassandra. Just his luck.

"Wow wow wow look who we have here, if not the famous wretched poor church rat," Cassandra said mockingly.

Alex wanted to respectfully ignore them and pass, but as annoying as Cassandra is wouldn't let him slip away. She wanted to use this God-given opportunity to embarrass him again.

"Do you work here now?" Cassandra asked, looking down condescendingly at him.

Sofia immediately spoke up from the side, "No ma'am, he's our customer, he came to shop."

Cassandra laughed gleefully. At this point, some customers' attention was on the unfolding scene which was her plan all along.

"You're so blind girl, how can you allow someone as worthless as this into a place like this? Did you not look him up from hair to toe before guiding him to the clothing lines?"

This was when Sofia calmed down to look at Alex. She was a recruit who was in a hurry to make sales and she didn't stop to take a good look at him. She was silently praying that this man hadn't wasted her time.

Victor stepped forward and placed one of his hands on Cassandra's waist. He did this just to get to Alex.

"Hey bro how have you been? Better not steal any items from this store. Why don't you just stay within your limit?" Victor spat.

At this time more people were coming together to find out what the commotion was about. And Sofia was beginning to lose hope.

Then Alex spoke up after being quiet all these while, "Sofia, may you please calculate my items so that I can make payment and leave this place."

He was going to show them that he was no longer the Alex they used to know.

Sofia started calculating all the items he bought with their system. After she was done she said, "Sir, your items cost $720,000."

Cassandra made a snorting sound, "He's not going to be able to pay that huge amount of money. I mean, he couldn't even pay for the ordinary $200,000 he owed my family." Cassandra practically got everyone's attention now.

Alex simply ignored her and gave his card to the sales attendant. "I'm going to shock you all today" he reasoned in his mind.

Sofia imputed the amount and gave it to Alex to put in his password. He did and gave it back to her.

Everybody was patiently waiting to see the outcome of this whole drama. They wanted to know if Cassandra and Victor were being truthful.

Cassandra at her end was very sure that the card would decline the transaction. She knew that there was no way Alex could be that rich in just twenty-four hours.

While they were waiting, the most shocking thing happened, the machine made a beeping sound and showed a red sign which meant that the card was declined. Alex was gobsmacked.

"You see, I said it didn't I?" Cassandra felt vindicated. She was happy that Alex would be bundled out of this place by the security personnel disgracefully.
