Chapter 23

Henry watched as Damien’s mother sat like a capital C at the morgue. She had been called to identify his body. Her head bent like a dying flower and her lips trembled. Just eyes were glossy and red. When she was called, she stood slowly and walked into the morgue.

When he heard her let out a more guttural scream, he shut his eyes and sighed. He fought so hard not to cry. He was a man and tears were seen as a form of weakness. No one told him but he had observed that in the society.

They escorted Damien mum out and she sat in the car still crying.

“ Luther said we should prepare his funeral. He was going to fund it” Dex said. He showed no sign of remorse or care. He looked at Damien’s mother in the car and scowled. “ Damien’s not the first to die neither would be the last in our group “ then he walked out.

Henry stood like he had been glued to the ground. He couldn’t believe what he just heard. Was that what’s the mafia was all about. You lose people easily and they are replaced immed
