Paying homage

Gilbert understood that the War God was no ordinary man and, therefore, commanded the highest level of respect due to the important position he held in the nation.

Just by being close to him, Gilbert felt like a single mistake would cost him, so he didn't dare to misbehave as he waited for Elijah to respond to his greeting.

“Gilbert Strong?” Elijah muttered as he put down the documents he was holding.

He glanced at Gilbert as he was kneeling on the ground, prompting him to let out a sigh. “We don't do that here.”

“Sir?”

“Stand up.”

“Yes sir.”

Gilbert didn't hesitate to do as instructed, quickly rising to his feet, and even though he was sweating profusely, he did not attempt to wipe the sweat.

Trembling in fear, he wondered if he had made some sort of catastrophic mistake to earn the attention of the most powerful man in the nation apart from the Emperor.
