Chapter Five

Chapter Five

Mael definitely wasn’t expecting the fit of laughter bursting through his friend moment after his utterance, his eyes were closed with mouth widely parted as he cackled out loud. A palm rubbing on his stomach.

Mael seemed a bit mortified, befuddled on what got him reacting like that.

“That’s one expensive joke, Mael.” He spoke in between his laughters, the chortling beginning to die down after awhile as he resumed a better stance.

Mael frowned, he couldn’t believe the whole outburst was just a bodily response to his suggestion. “It’s a what if, not a joke.” He corrected, evident in his tone how much offended he was.

“You can’t be for real, Mael. There’s no way that is not a joke,” he countered, the tittering yet to died out his face. “I mean exactly where were you planning to lend two million dollars and give to me or lend to me, if you wouldn’t even borrow it, where did you plan to see it. You can cut out the serious act now, I know you were joking and I’m humorous enough to notice.” He shrugged, closing up the gap between him and Mael, his hand stretching out to tap a brotherly pat on his shoulder.

“I know if you have the money you’ll help. I understand, but thank you for real. But I know you don’t, and I know you will someday. Still thanks again. You’re a real friend.” He verbalized, heaps of emotions heaving down his words as he drew Mael in for a hug.

Mael knew he wouldn’t believe him if he shared his latest privy news with him. Being a member of a secret society and a casual millionaire with the savings stuffed in his bank card.

There was no reasonable explanation that would back the confession up.

Instead, Mael hugged him back, morphing a look of concern. “Everything will be okay.” He assured him before they pulled away from each other.

“I’m gonna leave you to it because I have to go check on my son at the hospital, then leave for the interview for my second job. Bye now.” He informed him, glancing down at the luggages as he expressed announcement on his departure.

“Yeah sure, I will come check on him one of these days. I just need to settle down today.” Mael told him back, casting him a small smile, he waved him bye.

His attention drew away from him, falling back to the three big bags filled with his stuffs all packed from his matrimonial home.

That was when he remembered, the purple sealed bag that was given to him at the hospital three years ago when he was discharged. The doctor has given it to him, saying the bag belonged to him per the words of the man who brought him in.

Mael with no memory had no idea what to do with the bag, he tried opening it to see it was locked and can only be opened with some codes input; but he has no idea.

He kept the bag with him since then, thinking one day he will remember the code.

The purple bag however, wasn’t among the luggages sent to him and it’s the most important bag.

“I need to go get that bag. It definitely has something to do with my past, I can’t lose it.” He said to himself, bringing his phone out to operate on.

He ordered a ride from his phone, and in no time the car pulled over. He helped settle his luggages at the right place, and both dived into the car zooming to Mael’s stated location.

The drive took about twenty minutes, before the apartment came into their sight.

Mael told the driver it that he was only here to carry a bag and they’ll be on their way to an hotel, where he planned to shelter himself for sometime till he thinks of next move.

He agreed, allowing him depart as he headed towards the house. He arrived by the porch and was about placing a knock when the chattering voices of his wife, and two other familiar voices had him stopping.

He wondered what they were talking about so he leaned in to listen.

“Yes. I’m not lying, I saw his vain empty self at the bank today. He had this stolen card with him, saying he wants to check the balance. How desperate he must be, I’m glad we’ve separated finally from the chaffy human being.” Mael listened to the voice of Blair speaking about him.

“You should be thanking me, I practically forced him to sign those papers today. I’m pretty sure if it was you to demanded it, he wouldn’t have yield. And if he was later caught for stealing that bank card, you’d be involved with him and in trouble.” His mother in law joined in the discussion, her mannish voice retorting to his wife.

“I literally saw him when I was coming back, he like jumped in front of my car and I had to swerve away from him that led to my car earning some scratches.” A third voice sounded, belonging to that of Bella, Blair’s younger sister.

The evil trinity of their evil family was complete, and he was the subject of their discussion.

“What?! Really?” Blair exclaimed, her voice cracking with disbelief.

“Are you for real?” Their mother added.

Mael from outside couldn’t help the scoff falling out his mouth, careful not to attract attention as he bawled in irritation.

What was her reason for twisting her words about what happened?

“Yes, I don’t know what his motive was. But he almost made me hit him.”

“He probably wanted you to, so he can some hold to exhort money from you. What a desperate attempt. He makes me boil.” That was his wife, not only condemning him but also agreeing with her sister’s lies.

“Not only you, you should have hit him Bella, crush his bones and do his worthless life a favor by taking it away.”

That was the draw for Mael as he pulled away from listening, eyes glistening with fury as he pushed the door open.

His eyes and presence coming in contact with the gathered trio speaking ill of him. Looking at their repulsive faces, he could pose some appreciations for finally leaving this family. They were the embodiment of triggers.

“You. What are you doing here?” Mrs Norville, his mother in law pointed her index with such aggression, veins grooving against her forehead.

“Leave this premises or I’m going to call cops on you and have you detained for the rest of your miserable life.” She threatened, her index shifting to point at the entrance Mael took when coming in.

“I’m only here for my purple bag. You didn’t bring it alongside my luggages.” Mael washed his face of his previous anger, conversing with her in a calm tone.

“How crappy are you to the point you can’t even let go of a stupid bag I bet is important to you.” Bella mocked, inviting herself to the conversation.

“It’s time you start working for a change in your sleazy life, Mael. I can recommend you a post at my company, you just have to ask. The cleaning position is currently vacant and open to applicants, I just have to put in some words and it’s secured for you. A job that fits you so well.” Her tone jeered further, deriving happiness from her deriding views of Mael.

“She’s literally offering you a job at Lynx’s Enterprises and you’re not on your knees begging yet. I guess you’re cursed to your shoddy life. Here is your stupid bag!” Blair who went away to get his bag returned, throwing the bag tactlessly at him, not minding where it could land.

“Now that’s your last piece in this house, so drag out your trashy appearance and never in your life show yourself in here again.” She quested in a commanding tone, her index pointed out with her face marred with distaste.

Mael picked his bag up, glancing up at them. “You’re all going to regret this.” He muttered simply, his demeanor calm and threatening, his eyes flashing danger with a cold blank expression masking his face.

As if he had made a joke, loud laughter blew out from their midst following his statement. They laughed heartedly, taking his words exactly how they see him, ridiculous.

Mael said nothing again than turn his back and walked out of the house, all that was said to him replaying in his head. He was going to make them pay and he knew where to start.

He took out his phone, calling the lady from the bank the second time today. She picked the moment the call came through.

“Hi, Mr Ze’Ev.” She greeted politely.

“Do you know about Lynx’s Enterprises and is it one of your properties?” Mael questioned, ignoring the pleasantries.

“Yes it is and would you like to own the property?” The lady responded.

“Would my savings cover the cost?”

“It would and you’d still have left.”

Mael smiled at the heard of that. “I need you to buy the company right now.”
