Chapter 13

Henry and the security were both stunned to hear what Gerald said.

The security quickly stood up and he became scared not knowing if he had offended someone higher than Henry unknowingly to him.

Henry quickly let go of his shock and his face turned into a sneer.

"You are not just a criminal, but also a pathological liar!" Henry shouted.

"What?" Gerald said.

Henry burst into a mocking laughter before he answered Gerald.

"You must think that I'm a fool to believe that my boss would stoop low as to date a low-life criminal like you!" Henry jeered.

The security nodded his head in agreement with what Henry said.

He thought about it and he realized that it was unrealistic for their boss to date someone like Gerald. He began to curse himself for getting scared easily.

"That is true!" The security blurted out. "There is no way our boss would date someone like you!"

Gerald looked at both Henry and the security and he scoffed. He knew that they would find it hard to believe him and he was ready to taunt them.

"Why do you both of you believe that your boss can't date me?" He asked them.

Henry looked at him with a murderous look on his face.

"Is it not obvious? You are clearly beneath her status! I know my boss is a woman of class, men like you are not fit to even be her guard not to talk of boyfriend." Henry countered.

Gerald opened his mouth to defend himself but the security spoke to Henry before he could.

"Sir, I think this man here is just trying to waste our time by lying to us, he just wants to deceive you so you would be scared of dealing with him." The security said to Henry.

"Of course! I know that! He is just trying to lie his way out of here so I would not fire him but that will not work!" Henry said.

Henry turned to face Gerald.

"You are fired from this place and I will make sure I arrest you for false claims against my boss and also for assaulting me!" Henry charged.

Gerald knew that the only way they would believe him was if he could show them evidence so he decided to do so.

The security was ready to drag Gerald out when he held up his hand to stop him.

"What is it? Do you have more lies to say?" Henry asked.

"I was never lying from the start and I will never lie but since you guys don't want to believe me, I will show you I'm not lying," Gerald said.

"And how will you do that?" Henry asked, not believing Gerald.

Henry believed that Gerald was just trying to buy time and prevent himself from getting fired. He did not believe that Gerald would have proof of his relationship with his boss.

"I will call her on the phone and she will come here to verify it herself," Gerald said.

Henry started laughing as he could not imagine his boss leaving her office just because of someone like Gerald.

"Sir, I think this man is just wasting our time with his lies, let me throw him out of here." The security said as he attempted to seize Gerald.

"Wait!" Henry stopped the security. "I want to see how far he can go with his lies. I want to watch him ridicule himself." He sneered.

Henry then turned to Gerald.

"Now, why don't you call her and prove to us that truly, she is your girlfriend," Henry said.

Gerald knew that it was a gamble and he prayed in his mind that Grace would not disappoint him.

He brought out his phone and dialed her number. The phone started ringing and they all had different expressions on their face.

Grace had just finished an important business call when she noticed her phone ringing. She looked at the caller ID and was surprised to see that it was Gerald.

'What could he want?' She muttered to herself.

It was enough for her that her grandfather was trying to pitch them together and asking them to work together now she has to deal with his call also.

Grace wanted to ignore the call so she let it ring believing that Gerald would get the hint that she did not want to have anything to do with him and stop calling.

To her surprise, Gerald kept calling. Grace got tired of the constant ringing of her phone and decided to pick up the call.

Gerald heaved a sigh of relief the moment Grace picked up the call.

'Hello.' He said.

'What is it?' She asked in anger.

'Please I need you to come to the manager's office, there is a problem that I need you to help me solve.' Gerald explained.

Grace rolled her eyes in annoyance.

'What kind of trouble have you gotten yourself into on your first day at work?' Grace asked angrily.

'I did not do anything wrong but I cannot explain on call, I need you to come in person.' Gerald said.

'Look, whatever trouble you might have put yourself into, that's your problem, just solve it yourself!' Grace hissed and ended the call.

Grace angrily dropped her phone on the table and her chest began to heave up and down.

She noticed her button was about to pop out and she remembered what Gerald had said to her that morning.

'Serves him right for whatever situation he had gotten himself into.' She thought to herself.

She decided to go back to the document she was reading before Gerald's call came in but she noticed that she could not concentrate anymore.

After several failed attempts to focus on the document, Grace finally stood up and picked up her phone.

Her mind could not stop wandering around and she could not help but wonder what kind of trouble Gerald was in that could make him call for her help.

'Fine! Let me just go and investigate the situation personally.' She said to herself.
