“What?" the chief police officer bellowed, his eyes darting from the police officer holding Marcus to the young officer standing next to him.

The chief's mind raced, trying to understand what was happening. He couldn't let his staff see his fear, so he kept his expression neutral, even as his heart raced. He had to take control of the situation, and fast. But one thing he knew for sure, the army’s visit means troubles, and he wondered who they must have offended,

The chief stood up, straightening his uniform and adjusting his cap.

"Lock Marcus up," he ordered the officers, his tone cold and firm. "Keep torturing him until he talks." The officers nodded, their faces hard and unreadable.

The chief strode to his office, his mind racing as he donned his jacket and cap. He exited the building and was met with the General, who stood on the steps of the building, his face grim. The chief approached the General, bowing slightly in respect. The General did not smile.
