After his initial visit to the Cosmo shop, Alayn harbored a singular goal in his mind: ensuring that Neo would enter the shop after him or, preferably, before Luverne. Alayn lacked a clear understanding of Luverne's capabilities, which fueled his determination to avoid getting caught by him at all costs. One of the reasons behind Alayn's decision to manipulate the team's entry order into the Cosmo shop was driven by this purpose alone.
"Welcome back to my Cosmo shop, dear player," greeted Solarael, a faint smile gracing his face as Alayn regained consciousness following the teleportation. "Now, how would you like to utilize your one-time bonus question?" he inquired, his tone warm and inviting.
"First and foremost, I have something I'd like to sell to you," Alayn announced with a mischievous grin appearing on his face.
....
"You know, player, you're quite intelligent for a human," Solarael remarked, a faint expression of admiration crossing his features.
"Yeah, I'm well aware," Alayn responded confidently, not displaying any false modesty in response to the compliment. Meanwhile, he took a moment to check the balance of his credits using his ability card. The card seemed to project the balance of 1020 credits above it using an intriguing and mysterious technology.
"Ah right, I forgot. Can you give me a pen and paper?" Alayn asked. "Sure. No credits needed," Solarael said as he saw that Alayn was readying to pay for the pen and the papers.
Solarael handed Alayn a quill pen with embedded ink and a sticky-note-sized paper. Alayn positioned the counter as a makeshift table and started writing something on it. After approximately a minute, he raised his gaze, read the content he had written, and nodded with a sense of satisfaction.
After confirming the content of what he had written, Alayn inquired, "Could you pass this note to the person who visits the shop after me?"
"That service will cost you two hundred credits," Solarael responded calmly, his expression remaining unchanged.
"Two Fucking Hundred credits for that?!" Alayn blurted out, his voice filled with a mix of disbelief and exasperation. The curse slipped out unintentionally, reflecting his genuine reaction.
"Please mind your language," Solarael interjected calmly. "And yes, it does come at a significant cost to seek assistance from an angel, even for seemingly mundane tasks," he explained, maintaining his composed demeanor.
"I apologize for my outburst. It was unintentional," Alayn expressed, regaining his composure and offering an apology.
Deep down, Alayn had foreseen this issue prior to entering the shop. His decision to manipulate the team's entry order, with Neo following him, was not only influenced by Luverne but also driven by this very concern.
That's why Alayn had employed the framing bias technique to subtly influence Neo's decision-making process. By presenting only two options—entering after Alayn or entering after Luverne—Alayn skillfully crafted a mental frame that limited Neo's considerations. He intentionally excluded the possibility of Neo entering the shop after Luverne, ensuring that Neo would remain focused on the desired outcome. Alayn's strategy worked precisely as he had intended, effectively guiding Neo's decision in alignment with his own plan.
Alayn was aware of the tendency for humans to exhibit a mindset of subordination or deference to their superiors, even if it was unintentional. He understood that suggesting acting before a superior would likely go against this ingrained mindset.
While Alayn expected Neo to choose to enter the shop after Luverne, he knew he could easily adjust the order if needed. The main objective was to ensure that Neo entered after Alayn, and the specific order of others entering could be rearranged accordingly.
To maintain control over the entry order, Alayn strategically manipulated the dynamics within the group. He aligned the girl's desire to enter with Luverne, reinforcing the notion that they should enter together.
Additionally, he utilized the authority of their teacher, Mr. Luverne, to dissuade Aidan from disrupting the intended order. By considering these factors and carefully orchestrating the situation, Alayn effectively eliminated potential obstacles to achieving the desired entry sequence.
"Can I leave this here without paying any credits?" Alayn inquired, holding the paper in his hand and gesturing toward the counter. The pen had already been placed there, signifying his readiness to leave it behind.
"You will need to pay five credits if you wish to leave it on the counter. However, if you prefer, you can simply leave it on the floor without any charge," Solarael responded calmly with a slight smile, clarifying the options available to Alayn, as if saying, "Do you think everything would go as you want them to?"
"Tsk, fine," Alayn grumbled, his annoyance evident at the additional charge. He reached for the pen on the counter and, with a calculated movement, crouched down to place the paper on the floor beside the counter. To prevent it from being carried away by a stray breeze, he ingeniously utilized the pen as an impromptu weight, securing the paper in place. As he did so, a determined thought crossed his mind: "If something doesn't align with my plan, I will simply eliminate that variable."
As Alayn stood up, he wasted no time in posing his next question. Without allowing Solarael a chance to respond, he pressed on, "Would it be permissible for two people to enter the shop simultaneously?" Alayn inquired, eagerly awaiting Solarael's answer.
"It would be fine if one of them could pay two credits," Solarael replied calmly.
Alayn handed his ability card to Solarael, displaying his willingness to proceed with his request. "Please deduct the two credits from my account. The two individuals will enter the shop after the next customer," Alayn stated, indicating his readiness to make the payment and proceed with his desired arrangement.
"Alright," said Solarael, taking Alayn's ability card.
After completing the transaction, Alayn retrieved his ability card from Solarael. With a flick of his fingers, he effortlessly made the card vanish into thin air.
After his initial purchase and sale, Alayn had learned that every player possessed the ability to make their card vanish in a similar fashion. It was a skill specifically taught by Solarael to each player during their transactions at the shop.
Alayn understood that this ability was only accessible to those who engaged in buying or selling, emphasizing the importance of participating in transactions to acquire new knowledge.
"Very well then. I shall take my leave now. It has been a pleasure engaging in business with you," Alayn expressed to Solarael, a warm smile gracing his lips, as he waved his hand in farewell. With purposeful strides, he made his way towards the majestic golden door.
"Thank you for your patronage. It has been a pleasure conducting business with you," Solarael expressed with a courteous nod, appreciating Alayn's presence.
As Alayn vanished from the shop, Solarael thought to himself,
"You surely have chosen one hell of a human as your avatar, Marauder."
As Alayn's eyes adjusted to the luminous golden light, they fell upon the resplendent figure of the majestic door before him. Standing alongside him were the six other players, their expressions brimming with curiosity and anticipation, eager to glean insights from Alayn's encounter within the Cosmo shop. It was evident that they yearned to hear every detail, their eyes fixed on him, awaiting for Alayn to enable his voice. Alayn keenly observed the anticipation radiating from the other players, understanding their eagerness to hear his account. With a casual smile, he began to share his experience, "Well, as it turns out, the Cosmo shop I entered this time was exactly the same as before. There were no noticeable changes or alterations." His words hung in the air, and the expressions of the other players subtly shifted, some with a tinge of disappointment and others with a hint of relief. Alayn couldn't help but inwardly chuckle at the sight of some disappointed expressions among th
The atmosphere was immersed in a mystical ambiance, as white and gray clouds blanketed the sky, casting shadowy hues over the surroundings. Amidst this ethereal backdrop stood a resplendent palace, emanating an otherworldly glow that defied human comprehension. At its core, a radiant golden allure exuded a sense of divinity and grandeur, captivating any soul fortunate enough to stumble upon this floating marvel. In the midst of this enchanting scene, a woman of unparalleled beauty knelt with hands prostrated before her, assuming a prayerful position. Her ethereal presence possessed an allure that effortlessly ensnared the hearts of all living beings with a single glance, casting a spell of admiration upon those who beheld her celestial countenance. Though her face remained veiled in a mysterious blur, it radiated an indescribable beauty, like a resplendent nebula of eternal blue that captivated the very essence of one's soul. In her mere presence, the universe seemed to pale in comp
"One thousand credits!?" Neo blurted out, his voice filled with disbelief and a hint of uncertainty, unable to fully trust what he had just heard. "Yes, indeed," Solarael replied with a smile, a tinge of amusement lacing his words. "By selling your one-time question back to the shop, you can receive a generous sum of one thousand credits. I assumed that Player Alayn had informed you about this option and the potential value it holds. Did he not mention the amount you could obtain by selling it?" Neo didn't answer Solarael and remained silent, as his mind consumed by a single question that echoed loudly within him: "What the hell did Brother Alayn do with those thousand credits he obtained?" Neo refrained from voicing his thoughts and chose not to ask Solarael about Alayn's use of the thousand credits. He realized that obtaining an answer from Solarael would require spending some of his own credits, and Alayn was someone he could approach directly without such expenditure. In Neo's
"Can I talk to you for a moment, Alayn?" Luverne approached Alayn a few minutes after Neo had entered the shop. "Ah, yeah, sure. What's up Mr. Luverne?" Alayn responded, appearing surprised by Luverne's sudden approach. Serene, who was standing beside Luverne, gave a slight smile to Alayn. "Just Luverne is fine. I appreciate that you've provided us with all the facts about the game, but what I'm truly interested in is your personal insight, Alayn," Luverne expressed, gracefully lowering himself to the floor and settling beside Alayn. Alayn, positioned against the wall opposite the golden door, took a brief pause to collect his thoughts before offering a response. Observing the interaction, Serene joined Luverne and took a seat next to him, eagerly awaiting Alayn's perspective. "I've pondered that question many times myself," Alayn began, his gaze fixed on the intricate patterns on the floor. "I believe the gods created this game to test us, to push us to our limits and see how we n
Amidst the somber atmosphere of the darkened realm, where gray clouds closed in on the majestic sky, a sprawling cathedral-like palace stood, emanating an ethereal grayish glow that permeated every corner of its illusory structure. It appeared as a boundary, a threshold between the realms of good and evil, encapsulating the essence of all things. Above this grand palace, raven-like creatures soared, their wings brushing against the palace's pinnacle or perching on its sides, their piercing gazes penetrating the depths of the human spirit. Within the palace, at the farthest end, rose a throne fashioned from spears and thorns, an imposing sight to behold. Seated upon this majestic throne was a being bearing a human-like resemblance, their countenance blurred and enshrouded in a mystical gray light and swirling mist. With a gaze that seemed to encompass the entire world, as if privy to the past, present, and future, they held the very fabric of existence within their grasp. A smile see
After another half-hour elapsed, the man known as Mortis approached the majestic golden door, signifying the completion of the entire team's first transactions and the utilization of their bonus questions. "I believe it's time to share the information we acquired from the one-time bonus questions," Luvern suggested, adjusting his thin glasses by pushing them up his nose with his index finger. He glanced at Mortis and then gave a subtle look in Aria's direction. Alayn couldn't help but inwardly facepalm at Luvern's obvious attempt to avoid eye contact with Aria. Luvern's behavior inadvertently conveyed that Aria's ability was genuinely affecting them. "As I mentioned earlier, my question was about the true purpose of this game," Luvern stated, adopting a serious tone. "And the answer I received was a single sentence." He paused for a moment, his gaze shifting to Alayn as if recalling their earlier conversation. "'Gods made this game to find the most powerful authority among all the
"So, it appears there is another option for us to survive besides dying or completing the game," Luvern pondered aloud, a glimmer of hope in his voice. "But the question remains: how do we make our superior give up on the game? I'm quite certain that when Solarael mentioned 'superior,' he was referring to the gods." Alayn quickly interjected, casting a shadow of doubt over the conversation. "Hold on a moment. While it's true that Solarael mentioned our superior giving up as a means to exit the game, let's not forget that he also stated we can exit by simply dying. What if, even if our superior were to give up, we weren't transported back to our original world and instead remained here, powerless and vulnerable? Or worse yet, what if we met our demise the moment our superior relinquished their role? There are far too many uncertainties in this regard." A wry smile tugged at the corners of Alayn's lips as he silently contemplated the situation. "Well, I did concoct that question and a
As Alayn contemplated how to convey his intentions and address the matter of his bloodlust to Serene, Aria's voice resounded once again. "And finally, for the last but not least, the god supporting Mr. Mortis," she said, casting a glance in Mortis's direction. "Well, this is also quite a complicated situation," she continued, wearing a wry yet innocent smile. "What do you mean?" Mortis asked, his expression one of puzzlement. "You see, Solarael did tell me the name of your god and the domain he is in charge of, but I didn't understand a single word he said," Aria explained, her smile still present. "What do you mean you didn't understand?" Luvern inquired, his voice tinged with curiosity. "I mean, I do remember what he said, but I didn't comprehend the meaning behind the words," Aria clarified, her wry smile unwavering. "Allow me to share what he said. Even though I didn't understand it, I can still repeat those words, or rather, the sounds that resembled words," Aria continued,
