Chapter 2

Dax felt foolish, he thought that love was more important than money, it turned out that he had been foolish to believe that Allora would accept him for who he was. It backfired. Love was nothing but an illusion.

And now he was the heir to the estate company that he slaved away in for four years. He was a broken man who tried hard to make something good out of himself. But it worked out for his good.

He brushed his eyes.

"Your parents were killed by the loan sharks and you were missing from your carriage."

"They only preyed after poor people."

"Yes but this was an entirely different story. Many people had speculations."

"What happened to them? Perhaps they were mistaken." A void formed in his chest at the thought of his parents, he was never going to see them again.

"They drove a rolls Royce, Mr Edmund."

"A Rolls Royce."

Bryson nodded dropping a file.

His eyes widened at the smashed Rolls Royce, the doors wide open and the marks for the bodies.

"How do you know that I'm the lost heir?"

"Your grandfather, searched tirelessly for you, for years. And you have the watch, an heirloom."

"My grandfather?" He said. His whole life did change.

"Why did they attack my parents?"

"We can't pinpoint it to a specific motive. But we're hoping that we can unravel the truth." Estelle held her file.

He rubbed his chin. "Hmm."

He witnessed and experienced their wrath firsthand and lived to tell it. He wouldn't let them last in this city but how?. And Dax knew that he had rivals from other estate homes.

...

He went to the master bedroom of his suite to relax, he gazed at a picture of his father, Thomas and a blonde, angular faced woman with piercing blue eyes in the life-sized picture. His heart churned at their photo.

Thomas, his father lived a very different life from him and he was brutally assassinated and turned into a chalkmark but for what reason?

Suddenly he was overwhelmed with sorrow that he was never going to get the chance to meet them. He pulled his hair in frustration, laden with grief.

He had a decision to avenge them or sit there like a chump and watch everything fade to grey.

Dax vowed never to let himself fall for such women again. Suddenly, he had 500M allotted to his account.

The next few days, Dax clutched a cigarette inbetween his teeth walking towards a shop to get some nice clothes for himself. He walked past a few teenagers taking selfies.

"Ew, look at that guy."

Dax selected a few clothes including leather jacket, expensive suits and loafers. He dropped it at the saleswoman's counter.

She eyed Dax and his tacky clothing.

"I need these."

"Are you sure you can afford them?"

"Are you here to question me or to do your job?"

She was on the brink of laughter. "Okay then, let me see your card."

She swiped it and her eyes popped at the the figures.

$50,000 approved.

He grabbed his things and winked leaving. He changed into a leather jacket, jeans and boots swiping his hair. The teens' jaws dropped at Dax walking away.

He walked towards the suite swiping a card to gain access.

The maids nodded and he smirked.

"Welcome boss."

He sat back on the couch in his den and his assistant Jennifer Bezos dropped a stack full of paperwork on his desk.

"These are all the documents. I arranged them in an order of importance."

"You want me to sign all of this?"

"You'll be extremely busy today."

"Nice." He reviewed the sheets drawn into the world of work, he clicked on the statistics and he wasn't so pleased with the profit margin and the rest of the ledgers.

He realised that he was just a novice.

He glanced at the notification on his phone. There was a charity fundraising event on the other part of the city and the officials were cordially invited.

Dax let it be and he scrolled down the computers system. Signing, he gazed at a house-flipping deal and cast it aside.

Dax prepared for the charity event hosted at the Grand Hotel. He adjusted his tie and his flashy watch.

However he dressed, the guests recognised him.

Allora and Korbin were at the charity event. She was the envy of all the women in the event.

Dax worked his jaw when they met him, all hell broke loose when the gossip spread like wildfire.

They laughed at him.

"Lookie here, if it isn't Daxton."

He worked his jaw glaring at Korbin through his shades.

"What are you doing here? Did you lose your way to the 99 cent store?" Korbin spoke.

"Korbin. I'm sure you bought everything else but forgot to buy some manners."

"Who needs manners with a poser like you?"

"Order order, let's focus on what's most important tonight, giving our children a better home." The orator spoke pointing at the meter.

Dax wanted so badly to prove he was better. He spotted the black sports car.

"Five hundred thousand, can I get five hundred?"

Korbin glared at him. "Five hundred."

"Can I get a six hundred?"

"600." Dax said and the audience had an upheaval of laughter.

Kevin fought hard to keep his composure. Allora was taken aback by his bid.

"Seven hundred." Kevin said.

"One million." He wrote a cheque in his name and Kevin was stunned.

Dax went up to get his prize.

The crowd clapped hard and Dax was met by gorgeous looking ladies. They screamed when he pushed them apart to meet a little girl who looked sullen that she didn't get any flowers.

He gave her the bouquet and she smiled.

Allora gasped. She pushed Korbin aside realising what she had missed.

"Daxton, wait, listen, we can fix this."

"No we can't." Dax said, veins on his throat when he started the car.

"Dax please, there was nothing going on between us. We can talk this out."

"Get out of my way, Allora!" He drove speedily out of the event and the crowd gasped.

Dax took his time to relax, he saw how she had changed drastically. On the bright side he did not have to walk anymore. He switched to gear 5 and throttled home.

Bryson met him on the Parkway.

"Your name is all over the tabloids."

He pulled up his shades to view the news.

"Hero purchases car for $1 million dollars. Saves gala."

"That is good news."

"Whatever. I passed across the message." He said. To the public and the criminals out there.

"You still have a lot of paperwork to run through."

"I do?" He said taking off his jacket, he glanced at the gym.

"Do you spar?"

"As a matter of fact, I do."

"You can teach me. I'm bent out of shape."

Bryson lowered his hands when his jacket fell into his hand.

Dax pulled up the weight and he trained him to best of his ability.

Bryson looked concerned for Dax.

"You know, my ex is a waste of time. She even had the guts to say that nothing happened."

"Then there's no point going back. It's a new chapter."

Dax smirked. He wrote down all the things he wanted to do now that he was single. He wanted to outdo the competition and make sure that the company's profit went through the roof.

He went to his office and the creative board chattered. He entered and they glanced at him. He went to the chair at the head of the conference table.

"I am Daxton, your new CEO."

They were speechless.

"As of now, you will be giving your best to make sure that Haven Homestead is thriving."

The board member was about to speak and Dax glared at the guards struggling to keep the woman out of the office.

"Daxton, thank goodness I found you. Can we talk about this? I don't want a divorce, you're a lot better than Korbin. I love you."

She cupped his cheek and he softened covering her hand.

"Thank you, Allora, that's all I've always wanted to hear." He spoke softly.

The members exchanged looks.

She heaved a sigh smiling.

"I am better than Korbin. Security." He signalled and she winced.

They grabbed her arms.

"Get her out. I'll see you in court."

"No!" She kicked out. "Please listen."

He waved dismissively and shook his head. "Now, back to business. You were saying?"

They gazed at him shell-shocked.

"We could raise the prices."

"We could give the audience a limited payment method to cut costs."

"Those ideas sound appealing, any other suggestions?"

They spoke simultaneously and Dax checked his watch.

"Alright. After all you've said, I've made a unanimous decision to fire Mr McFadden." He said pointing.

"We don't tolerate such toxic behaviours around here."

Mr McFadden gasped, he was escorted out of the company flustered. The workers who made fun of Dax were retrenched in batches and were replaced.

The news and vacancy ads were bustling and picked up immediately by workers.

The public were made to be aware of his properties and the demand was high.

There were losses due to the fact that they were now understaffed.

He clutched his hand, business was slowing down after the promotion and it was all his fault. He was getting bad reviews that they were unreliable. He had to admit, it was his fault.

He raked his hair.
