The Betrothed

Talon stood there processing what Gwen had said. A faint memory stirred in his mind, though he tried to deny it.

"It can't be," he thought. Yet as Gwen cried on the ground, something inside told him it was true.

Despite his doubts, Talon continued walking away. But Gwen's voice stopped him in his tracks. "It's me...I'm the red-haired girl you saved five years ago in the forest, from the SS-Class Rank Demonic beast. I'm the one who gave you this ring, I told you it was given to me by my father."

Talon turned slowly, disbelief and hope warring on his face. "Gwen?" he breathed. Then recognition dawned and he ran to her, lifting her in a tight embrace. "I never thought I'd see you again!"

Gwen laughed through her tears as they clung to each other. But Talon quickly released her, embarrassed. "Sorry about that."

Gwen smiled, shyly brushing her hair back. "No, I apologize for earlier. You had every right to be upset."

"We were both at fault," Talon said gently. "Let's put it behind us.
