The only possible solution Edwin thought of rendering, was pleas at the table of the doctor to get his mother treated, while he sought other possible means to get the money.
Upon his entry into the hospital, he was heading straight to the office, but then while he strode the hallway, something caught his attention.
He noticed a patient was dumped in the hallway. From where he stood, he could see the struggles of the patient, depicting how much pain she was passing through.
Pitifully, Edwin shook his head, thoughts of why the hospital could have done such a thing ran through his mind, but then he couldn't make out a reason as to why it happened.
Nevertheless, he kept on walking. He was almost a step away from the patient when his curiosity piqued. The same patient had a familiar bracelet he had gifted his mother.
It caused him to take a second glance at the person laying on the floor.
However, he was dumbstruck at the sight of what he saw. "Mother!" he yelled out in fury. All along it was his mother laying on the bare floor.
He turned to the next available nurse passing by, and then he yelled. "Why should my mom be treated this way? I promised to pay up already."
The innocent nurse jolted in fear as Edwin had approached her suddenly. However, when she realised he was done yelling, she caught a glance of Edwin and then she sneered.
"If the street was an option, we would have done just that. But then, we had to inconvenience the hallway just to find a space for your burden of a mom." the nurse rattled emotionlessly
"My mom is never a burden. She needs to be treated, that's why I brought her here and I p…"
"And her bills?" the nurse interjected immediately. "Your mom has exhausted about ten thousand dollars, if not more. Yet, this bill is compiled to the detriment of the hospital."
"We needed a bed space, and since she was lying there aimlessly, we had to shake her off." She added. "Now, if you will excuse me, I've got more important patients to attend to…Those that pay the bills are important."
Off she went without looking back.
On the other hand, Edwin got really confused, he squatted by his sick mother, staring emotionally. "Mom, I will find a way out of this. But they weren't supposed to treat you this way."
His mother could only reply with tears, she was too weak to talk.
She was only diagnosed with appendicitis which had progressed into peritonitis, a serious infection as a result of delayed treatment.
The only solution was a surgery which he wanted to pay for, but all hope was lost.
Edwin was still fuming with the fact that his mom was thrown out of the ward. He believed that regardless of not being able to pay up yet, his mother was supposed to be retained in the ward, not on the floor.
'if the streets were an option, we would have dumped her there.' Those words said by the nurse came rushing back and then, his anger multiplied.
He wanted to vent that anger on one of the hospital personnel. Luckily for him, he sighted that same nurse from earlier on, she was returning from wherever she went initially.
Edwin dashed towards her, and before she knew it, she was nabbed in the collar, the hold tight against her neck. "Why the hell did you all treat my mother that way?"
"Only dogs and animals are thrown out onto the streets. What do you take my mom to be? Huh! A dog! Rat! Or what?" he was continuously raging that he couldn't tell that his hold was just too tight against her neck, and her body pinned to the wall.
Her face had turned red and hardly could she breath. As much as she tried calling his attention towards the gripping effect, he just couldn't bulge, since his anger had taken a hold of him.
Luckily for her, fellow nurses began to walk through the hallway, same as guardians who came for their patients. "Help." she finally voices with a weak tone.
"Hey, let her go." Two male nurses got a hold of Edwin, pulling him away from the nurse.
She ended up coughing repeatedly while trying to grab her breath. "You all don't understand, she deserves to be dealt with, how the hell would she refer to my mom as a luggage for the street." Even while he was in the grip of the male nurses, he struggled.
The nurse on the other hand, had soon got a hold of herself. But then, even the spot where he had held her for long, was still red. "Even if I did construct the words like you just did, your mom is worth being referred to worse things. You all are an insane family."
"You have nothing to offer." The argument between the duo was suddenly becoming quite heated. If the male nurses should by mistake let Edwin off their hold, it was so sure he wouldn't let the nurse go, this time around.
Series of nurses and guardians had gathered around, trying to resolve the issue, but nothing fruitful was coming out of their intervention.
In a short while, the director descended the stairs and walked towards them. "What's going on here? What caused the ruckus." A tall lean man, with brown short curls. Dressed in a bespoke suit against his lean body walked towards them.
"I demand to know what the problem is?" he ordered with a creased forehead.
Without hesitation, the nurse explained all that happened without mincing a word.
However, Edwin was of the notion, that perhaps after listening to the situation, the director would tender justice with mercy and proffer a solution to at least keep his mother in the hospital, but then it was false.
"My nurse did just the right thing that should be done. I even blame her for not throwing the body out till this moment." Edwin was shattered by that word, his hope had been dashed into irreparable pieces.
"Guards!" The director called, two burly men in uniforms came forth.
"Make sure this body here leaves this premises in the next five minutes." The director rattled emotionlessly.
"Yes boss." Edwin was confused. He couldn't bear to see his mother in pain, she wouldn't get well staying at home.
Her condition will only worsen. While he was sy this, the guard suddenly went towards his mother's body preparing to roughly haul her out of the place.
"Don't manhandle my mom." he had cried out in vain.
However, a superior tone interrupted. "Let him go!"
Both the nurses, guardians and Edwin himself had to turn towards the location of the voice, only to see a huge framed man dressed in a dark navy blue suit. Which turned out to be a three-piece suit with a crisp white shirt and a navy blue tie. His shoes were black, shiny, and polished.Adding to it, he had short, dark hair, neatly combed and parted on the side. His face was clean-shaven, and he wore a pair of wire-framed glasses. "I said, you all should let him go! He is not to be rough-handled!" he repeated after recognising their hesitation. He hastened towards Edwin, slightly bowed, with an apologetic tone. "My apologies for coming late, young master. I should have arrived early enough and then this wouldn't have happened." Edwin was dazed. He found it hard to get meaning out of what was being said."Let's get going immediately, young master. I will make sure I get the best doctor and your mom will be on her feet in no time." Edwin had doubts. He knew no one to suddenly help him o
There was no need for further explanation. 'The hospital had been purchased by a superior family.' the president had declared. No other person had reached out to buy the hospital except for Alaric. When the realisation dawned on Aiden that he had hit a hard rock, he fell flat to the ground immediately. "Young master, my sincere apologies. I take back all I said."The revelation didn't hit him alone, but it also hit the nurses and guardians. However, fear could be noticed on the face of the nurses."We did underestimate him, now I'm very sure we will get fired." A nurse had murmured in fear."It's not me you offended, you offended my young master. So it's only if he forgives you. The ball remains in his court." Alaric replied to the director.Even after the discouraging words, Aiden kept apologising, however, the moment he realised the nurses were still on their feet, he yelled. "You all should get down on your knees! Can't you get a hang of the situation?"Edwin on the other hand was
“I want a divorce, Edwin.” Ciara had repeated to Edwin’s dismay. “Where exactly did I go wrong, Ciara?” Edwin believed she was supposed to be the one apologising for all the evil she had done since the day they got married. Severally, she had caused him humiliation in the family. Made a joke out of him, her family wasn’t fine with him, and so was Ciara herself.Nevertheless, he had loved her unceasingly hoping that one day she would come to love him like he did. But it was all a dream. She would go to the extent of frustrating him and selfishly making decisions. The last which had almost cost him the life of his mom, if not for the miraculous intervention from Adrian.“Ciara, why don’t we talk about this when we get home? I believe there is a misunderstanding somewhere.”On the other hand, Ciara scoffed.”You are a big joker, Edwin. Get down here right now so we can get the papers signed!” Edwin became disorganised, torn between the situation at hand and then his wife’s sudden reque
"What mission Sir Carlos?" Edwin was surprised. Sir Carlos leaned back. "It's not a tough deal Edwin. Only you are expected to spend one million dollars from the card I gave you. The one million dollars must be used well.'"I would like to see how best you can utilise the money. You have just a week to do that, Edwin, then we move on to the next thing. But then, in the meantime, welcome back to the family." Sir Carlos declared. As much as Edwin was happy with the fact that he had finally gotten to know who he really is, his heart wasn't at peace. Never in his whole life has he handled an amount that's as big as one million dollars, not to talk of spending it. However, he could tell that it was a simple test to test how extravagant or reserved he could be.While he was thrown into deep thought, he suddenly heard Sir Carlos command Aiden."Aiden, please drive Edwin back home. It's getting late already. I believe he would also want to see his mother at the hospital. So I think it's hig
Andrew Anthers threw the document to Edwin's face. "Make sure you sign it right now, so we can get the hell out of your cottage!" 'If you cannot provide for her, I will give her the world. If you feel like she is worth nothing, then let me take care of her. And I already am, right from this moment."Andrew threw the papers at Edwin's face which of course got him quite annoyed. He would not tolerate getting trampled upon by anybody.Edwin balled his fist and squatted to pick up the document. "What's in the paper you threw at me?" he frowned to ask."If you can not denote it by reading, then I guess we would hire someone to help your dumb brain out," Andrew said with audacity.Edwin read through it, and then he saw it. Right on top of the document was boldly written. Divorce agreement."Are you serious about this Ciara?" Edwin asked her with creases lined across his forehead. "Man, get this thing signed or I hand you over to the cops for beating up a woman." Andrew sounded quite impat
Ciara was enraged that Edwin didn't try to plead with her not to leave. She felt less important because of that. All through the discussion about the divorce, all he kept on doing was asking questions and not going down on his knees as a gentleman would do in order to retain his wife. She wanted more humiliation for him than he was already getting. She had thought this to herself the moment he boldly said she should leave."Dad, Mom, Andrew, please let's go immediately," she voiced in displeasure. "And as for you Edwin, I expect you to meet us at the courthouse in a few minutes. Remember we value our time, Andrew here as a lot of meetings to get back to. So don't keep us waiting," she turned around to leave. On the other hand, Andrew couldn't help but leave without taunting. "Oh darling, have you forgotten that he cannot make it there in time? He doesn't have a car, I bet he doesn't even have money for a public vehicle. Too.""Hmm, that's true, Andrew." She turned to Andrew. "Since w
Edwin stopped Alice with his hand across her figure. "Not yet, Alice. We've got scores to settle with these people," he turned towards Ciara."I thought you should be over me by now? With the obvious fact that you are already married to a scumbag like yourself." Edwin said without flinching. "Don't you dare, Edwin! I mean it when I say don't you dare insult my husband. He is much more capable than you have ever been since the day we got married. So speaking of the useless one among us here, I think everyone should get to know that you are the useless one." Ciara scornfully rested her arms underneath her breast. She was certainly enjoying the fact that her words were beginning to call the attention of every other person around them."This is really going to be good for the gossip of the week." a bystander said."You bet it, yea. Coupled with the fact that it's a family drama, people are certainly going to love it. We need to take note, my blog is gonna hear some pretty news." a second
Everything still felt as though it were a dream to Andrew, he sank to the ground aimlessly with his face buried in between his laps, just in a blink, his job was gone, as though that wasn't enough. Edwin strode forward and said. "You don't need to waste my time before you fulfil your end of the bargain, I never wasted your time." Ciara fumed in rage as a result of his words, and therefore, she fired the words. "What stupid deal exactly are you referring to?" she pretended not to know. Andrew also wasn't sure who exactly made him lose his job, but then he knew for sure that Edwin could have a hand in it. "Ciara, just do what he says and let's get out of here, roll before him. I need my job b…" "That's so untrue Andrew," she squatted to his level and said. "We don't know if he is really the one who orchestrated you losing your job. So I won't do anything he says." Ciara repeated with utmost confidence. "Wow, I guess the table has really turned." A bystander said. "Yea, it is. I f
