CHAPTER 8

Ciara was enraged that Edwin didn't try to plead with her not to leave. She felt less important because of that.

All through the discussion about the divorce, all he kept on doing was asking questions and not going down on his knees as a gentleman would do in order to retain his wife.

She wanted more humiliation for him than he was already getting.

She had thought this to herself the moment he boldly said she should leave.

"Dad, Mom, Andrew, please let's go immediately," she voiced in displeasure. "And as for you Edwin, I expect you to meet us at the courthouse in a few minutes. Remember we value our time, Andrew here as a lot of meetings to get back to. So don't keep us waiting," she turned around to leave.

On the other hand, Andrew couldn't help but leave without taunting. "Oh darling, have you forgotten that he cannot make it there in time? He doesn't have a car, I bet he doesn't even have money for a public vehicle. Too."

"Hmm, that's true, Andrew." She turned to Andrew. "Since we don't want him to waste our time, why not give him some money? I don't want him to stain your Rolls Royce with his poverty stricken body. So instead, why not just give him some money."

"Yea, sure," he threw some notes at Edwin which landed at his feet. All Edwin did was to smile to their foolishness.

Moreover, even the vehicle they spoke about wasn't the latest vehicle. Yeah, he was poor but he always browsed on things that he dreamt to buy when he got money.

The Rolls Royce he had seen outside happened to be a Rolls Royce Wraith which wasn't one of the top-ranking models.

"We've done you well by giving you some cash. It's sufficient to take you to the courthouse and also feed you for two days. Look at this as something good and so not keep us waiting." Andrew pleaded with a scoring look.

In a short while, the four of them left with their vehicle and off they went. On the other hand, Edwin shook his head after staring at the money and then the house.

A feeling of emptiness suddenly enveloped him, and he felt a slight pain as he thought of plans he had for himself and Ciara. The house still contained memories of her.

He took a slight view of the walls and then his gaze stumbled upon their wedding frame resting on the wall, one which he had always valued so much. But then not again, she had finally proved that she isn't worth brooding upon.

Edwin went for the street he was about to flag down a taxi when his phone rang. Just immediately, he picked without staring into the phone, only to hear a warm voice that came with a hint of excitement and anticipation.

"Young master, this is Alice, your personal assistant." her voice penetrated through the phone with its timbre akin to a gentle breeze rustling through leaves.

"Right Alice… anything I need to do at this moment?"

"Not at all, young master. I was instructed to take you to your new villa." Edwin's jaw dropped in confusion, Sir Carlos had only instructed him to make something out of a million dollars which he had thought of buying a house, and now he was being told to actually move into another house.

However, at that moment, he couldn't deal with his excitement, hence the conversation had to be short. "Alice, do you mind picking me up at the courthouse in an hour?"

"Alright boss, anything for you." He flagged down the next approaching cab and then off he went.

Twenty minutes later, he arrived at the courthouse and walked towards the others only to be greeted by harsh bashings from Ciara. "You deserve some spanking, do you agree to that?"

"You should have been here twenty minutes ago, but instead, you always choose to pull people back into your awkwardness." Regardless of whatever she said, Edwin said nothing at all.

He instead asked for the documents he was meant to sign which in a few minutes, he rounded up with it.

"I guess I'm finally free. Ciara, congratulations, I wish you all the best in your new home." Once again, Ciara was not contented with the fact that Edwin wasn't dropping at her feet to beg that she shouldnt leave.

Therefore, she vowed to make his life a living hell wherever she met him. Right from that moment.

Immediately, Edwin was done congratulating her, he took long strides out of the courthouse. Unknown to him, Ciara deliberately tailed behind him because she had a mission.

The moment they were out of the courthouse, she hastened  her steps till she got to Andrews's car in the parking lot.

Surprisingly, Edwin also strolled into the parking lot instead of heading towards the gate.

"Hey, Edwin, have you ever dreamt of buying a vehicle that's as good as this?" she leaned against the vehicle with a smile.

Edwin froze to the spot again, not because of what she said but the fact that she yelled out deliberately to call for the attention of everyone around them.

"Oops! Sorry, I have forgotten you would never be able to purchase one or bigger ones because you are quite poor and you live on penury."

No matter what she said, Edwin maintained his decorum.

"I hope you've not lavished the money Andrew gave you earlier on. Because if you have, remember you will not be able to eat anything tonight."

Edwin had grown tired of the insults, he could as well sight some people who had begun whispering.

"Perhaps that's why she left him. Look at the way he is poorly dressed."

As fast as he could, he took his phone to call Alice. "Edwin, you will not be able to get an Uber because you cannot pay for it."

A short while after the ring, he saw a red Aston Martin DB drive into the parking lot, and then he motioned the vehicle to stop.

Ciara stopped her taunting trying to figure out whoever was in the vehicle.

Alice gracefully stepped out of the vehicle, all eyes were immediately drawn to her enchanting presence which seemed to radiate an ethereal aura, capturing the essence of timeless beauty.

Edwin could tell that indeed his assistant was a beauty. Her appearance complimented the voice he heard on the phone.

Her eyes were just the colour of deep emeralds, which held a mysterious allure that seemed to hold a universe of stories within.

They sparkled with intelligence and curiosity, as if she had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and adventure. Her gaze had a way of making you feel both seen and understood, as if she could unravel the complexities of your soul with a single glance.

A cascade of lustrous chestnut hair flowed down her shoulders and back, catching the sunlight in its silky strands. It was as if the very sunlight had decided to paint highlights amidst the waves, creating an ever-changing play of warm hues that danced with each step she took.

Her smile was a work of art, a genuine curve of lips that could light up even the darkest corners of a room. It wasn't just a smile, but an expression of pure joy and kindness that seemed to have the power to lift the spirits of those fortunate enough to witness it.

She possessed a poise that spoke of confidence without arrogance, as if she knew her own worth but remained humble and approachable. Her attire, a tasteful blend of elegance and simplicity, seemed to enhance her natural beauty rather than compete with it.

As she moved, her grace was evident in every gesture. Her movements were fluid, almost like a carefully choreographed dance, a testament to the harmony that seemed to exist within her very being.

Some of those who had whispered wrongly against Edwin quickly took out their phones and began to browse the latest Aston Martin. When they did realise it cost three hundred and thirty dollars and six hundred cents, they saw it and immediately had their jaws drop.

"Who is she?" Ciara clenched her fist in anger. "Why is she speaking to him? He doesn't deserve her."

That didn't annoy get enough, until Alice walked towards Edwin, with a slight bow, she said. "Boss, can we go?"
