Chapter 173

The full moon was perched in the sky, radiating a dim light along with thousands of stars surrounding it. The faint glow filtered through the gaps in the Rosewood tree leaves, creating illuminated patches within the otherwise pitch-black forest.

As the wind swayed the branches and leaves, a play of light and darkness unfolded at various spots within the woods. Perhaps it was this sight that eventually caused Richard's eyes to slowly open. It began with squinting, then a gradual widening, until they were slightly open.

The habit of being alert then made Richard reflexively get up from a lying position to a sitting position. He sharpened his senses of sight and hearing simultaneously to digest the situation that had confused him.

"Boss, thank goodness you're awake."

A woman's voice touched Richard's ears, making him blink his eyes to see the woman who approached him hurriedly.

Before Richard could open his eyes again, a hard punch hit his head.
