After the tumultuous events had settled and everyone had left, the headmaster approached Kraig, a solemn look on his face.
He cleared his throat and began, "Kraig, I owe you an apology. I should have handled this situation better, and I'm deeply sorry for the trouble you've endured."
Kraig smiled as he said, " It's no problems Headmaster." He wasn't at all friendly with the headmaster, as he knew very well that the headmaster had only sided with him because of his grandfather.
The headmaster further asked Kraig to seat and when he asked about Kraig's classes, Kraig only nodded and tells him they were great.
But then, the headmaster was a bit reluctantly regarding the words that was hung on the tip of his tongue.
When Kraig noticed this, he scoffed, "Is there something else headmaster?" Kraig was dying to leave immediately, he had no idea how to quickly leave the office.
"Actually there is." The headmaster smiled at Kraig.
"I had no idea you are the son of the DeVille."
"Apparently I am." Kraig smiled.
The headmaster then dropped a bombshell that left Kraig stunned. "The institution is owned by the DeVille group. Your grandmother founded the university."
Kraig's heart skipped a beat as the weight of those words settled in. He couldn't believe that accumulated to the wealth of the DeVille's was also the most prestigious university in the city.
Kraig's eyes wavered around as his heart felt an enormous amount of excitement, but it didn't last.
As much as he was excited, the idea was overwhelming, and for some reason, Kraig couldn't shake a sense of fear that came with such a responsibility.
Questions raced through Kraig's mind. What would it mean to own the school? How could he possibly manage such a vast institution and the family's businesses?
The thought of wielding such influence and power left him both awestruck and anxious.
The headmaster then scoffed and said, "It's time now, follow me."
Kraig was baffled as he asked, "Where are we going?"
"To introduce the school's heir to the other students and teachers."
There was a sudden silence that left the headmaster stunned. He noticed Kraig was still seated.
"Mr DeVille, shall we?" He asked stretching his hand towards the direction of the door.
Kraig's eyes glimmered for a moment and then he met the headmasters eyes.
"That's not going to happen."
Shock ran through the headmaster's spine and his eyes widened in terror, "What do you mean Kraig?"
Kraig, wearing a cautious smile, gently stood on his feet, and placed his hands in his pockets.
He walked closer to the headmaster. For a moment there, the headmaster felt belittled as Kraig was standing like an heir that he was.
Kraig then said, "I've been living a private life, and I would like it to remain that way."
The headmaster, however, had a different perspective. He felt it was important to make an announcement to the students, ensuring that Kraig received the respect and recognition he deserved as the school's new owner.
With a hint of skepticism, Kraig responded, "Are you saying this is so the students won't bully me?"
The headmaster, momentarily taken aback by Kraig's directness, struggled to find an immediate response. Finally, he sighed and admitted,
"Well, yes, that's one way to put it. But it's also about transparency and making sure everyone knows who's behind this institution."
Kraig, however, disagreed. He leaned in closer to the headmaster and said, "I understand your point, but I'd prefer to keep this a secret. I don't need the attention."
The headmaster, although initially resistant, finally relented, nodding slowly. "Very well, Kraig. If that's your wish, we'll keep it quiet for now."
"That's perfect then. Is there anything else that needs to be settled?" Kraig raised a brow.
"The school festival is by the corner and the staffs are worried we might not be able to do much this year and..."
Kraig didn't let him finish, he cuts the headmaster short, "I'm sure this are matters that should be discussed with my grandfather."
The headmaster was stunned, he smiles and said, "Of course."
Kraig walked out of the office. He was still very much disturbed that he would have to take responsibility very soon.
Taking a deep breath, Kraig walked through the corridors of the school, lost in his thoughts.
Just as he was about to exit the building, a familiar voice called out, "Hello."
Kraig turned to see Wynn approaching him with a friendly smile.
It was the first time he had noticed her smile since highschool.
She looked gorgeous and was dressed up in baggy jeans and a short top.
It was different from the outfit she had wore in the morning, "Where are you off to?"
She walked up to him, curiosity in her eyes, and asked, "Kraig, what happened in there?"
Kraig sighed and leaned against the wall, feeling a bit overwhelmed. He decided to share some of the news with her, saying, "Juan won't be a student here anymore. His uncle, Griffin, made that decision."
Wynn's eyes lit up with excitement at the news, and she couldn't contain her joy. She reached out to grab Kraig's arm, ready to drag him along to share the news with others.
But Kraig stopped her, gently pulling his arm away. He looked at her with a serious expression and said, "Wynn, I appreciate your but can we stop being friends?"
"Why, Kraig?" Wynn asked, her voice tinged with worry. "Why do you want to stop being friends with me?"Kraig, burdened by the weight of his secret life and the challenges it posed, hesitated for a moment. He knew that Wynn deserved an explanation, but he also wanted to protect her from the complications he was facing. He decided to be brutally honest, hoping that it would discourage her from probing further."I don't want to have any friends," Kraig replied, his tone resolute.Wynn, however, was not one to be deterred easily. Her eyes softened with compassion, and she smiled warmly at Kraig. "Well, you accidentally became my friend, and that's how it's going to be."Kraig couldn't help but be touched by Wynn's unwavering determination to maintain their friendship. Seeing an opportunity to lighten the mood, Wynn suggested, "How about we have lunch at Kipps? My treat."Kraig was momentarily taken aback by the unexpected invitation. But then he accepted,"All right, Wynn," he said, hi
The cafe owner, a stern-looking middle-aged woman, had had enough. She made her way toward Kraig. She was of a big size and her head was bald The woman was displeased, her brows danced in fury as she approached Kraig. Her voice stirred up the restaurant as the cafe owner warned sternly, "If you three keep causing a nuisance in my business I won't hesitate to send you out."The other students in the cafe couldn't help but chuckle at the fact that both Kraig and Jade will end up being thrown out. They found the drama unfolding before them quite amusing. However, the cafe owner wasn't finished. She turned to address the other students, her tone firm and unwavering. "And that goes for all of you too. I won't tolerate disruptions in my cafe."One of the students, clearly displeased with her words stood up and said, "That's not fair!"Jade, still brimming with defiance, turned her attention back to the cafe owner. She spoke with arrogance in her voice, "You wouldn't dare send me out."On h
Kraig, took a deep breath. He quickly walked back into the cafe to rejoin Howie. As he walked in, Kraig was stunned when he noticed Wynn and Howie rather too close to each other.Their hands were locked and Howie's seemed to be attentive as he listened to Wynn. There was a sudden distress that sting Kraig's heart. He felt a rush of jealousy running through his spine. His chest clogged of jealousy so much that he couldn't breath. But he didn't get why he was jealous, it wasn't as if Wynn was his girlfriend.'She isn't!' He convinced himself. As he took a step closer, his eyes fixed on Wynn as her lips widened into a broad smile. Kraig's heart thumped and he hiccuped. He has never noticed the dimples on her cheeks but now, he could see them clearly. She was pretty. His eyes wavered towards Howie. Compared to Kraig, Howie was a blonde with a lot of charm. His straight nose and heart shaped red lips always gives him away. He had brown eyes that makes him even more charming.Kraig loo
The nurses turned to Kraig, startled by his sudden appearance. Madam Zury, who had been frail and quiet, looked up weakly, her eyes glimmered for a moment as she try to recognize the child standing in front of her. "Who are you?" one of the nurses asked, her tone defensive. Ignoring the question, Kraig approached Madam Zury, taking her frail hand in his. "It's me, Kraig. I've come to check on you." Madam Zury's eyes welled up with tears as she whispered, "Kraig, my dear." Kraig turned to the nurses with a stern expression. "This woman cared for me and countless others when we had no one else. She employed you, is this not enough reason to respect her?" The nurses exchanged glances and then looked at Kraig's casual attire—jeans and a plain sleeve. One of them couldn't resist a smirk. "Still struggling, are we?" she asked, her voice tinged with mockery. The other nurse chimed in, her laughter not far behind. "Yeah, and I wonder if he can even afford university." Kraig felt his f
Kraig carefully helped Madam Zury to her feet after the director's cruel slap. Her frail form trembled as she stood, her eyes still moist from the stinging pain on her cheek. Kraig's anger simmered beneath the surface, but for now, he focused on getting Madam Zury out of this place. As they made their way out of the room and into the garden, a sense of relief washed over them. The remaining children were gathered with Howie and Wynn, along with one of the more caring nurses who had always looked out for the kids.Madam Zury's gaze shifted to the children, and she paused in her steps. Her heart ached at the sight of the young faces, their eyes filled with confusion and concern. She turned to Kraig, her voice wavering with worry, "Kraig, my dear, I can't leave them behind. How will we survive, and where would we they go?"Kraig gazed at the children, realizing that there were about 14 of them, ranging in age from 6 to 10. He gently placed a hand on Madam Zury's shoulder and assured
Madam Zury, despite the concerns raised by Isabella about her health, wore a determined smile. Zury reassured her, "I appreciate your kindness, Isabella, but I'll be alright. No surgery for me. The most important thing right now is finding a better place for these children to live."Isabella's eyes filled with compassion as she asked, "Are there any other issues you're facing that we should know about?"Madam Zury sighed softly before sharing, "Well, you see, the new owner of this orphanage wants to change the building into something else. That's why we're in such a dire situation."Isabella's expression remained empathetic. "I see. You've been through a lot, Madam Zury, but I want to help. Let me speak with someone from our organization. We might be able to find a suitable place for the children to live, a place like the DeVille Hospitable."Madam Zury's eyes widened in surprise . "If you could do that, Isabella, it would mean the world to us. We desperately need a safe and secure p
Kraig stared at the director in surprise. "How did you know about my identity?"The director chuckled softly and confessed, "I overheard your phone call with Isabella. I couldn't help but listen in."Kraig couldn't help but shake his head at the absurdity of the situation. "You eavesdropped on my conversation and yet wanted to throw me out of the orphanage earlier."The director's expression turned somewhat regretful. "I was hasty and foolish, Kraig. If I had known who you were from the beginning, I would have treated you better."Kraig couldn't help but laugh bitterly. "You really think I'd want to associate with people like you?"Just as the tension between Kraig and the director was escalating, two men entered the orphanage. It was Kyle, and a other man dressed up in fancy suits.Kyle pretended not to recognize Kraig as he asked for the director of the orphanage. The director stepped forward and replied, "I'm the director. What can I do for you?"Kyle chuckled lightly as he intro
Kraig sat in the back of the cab, anxiety gnawing at him as he watched the Bentley carrying Wynn disappear into the distance. There was a knot in his stomach, and he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. Without hesitation, he decided to call Luke, one of the security personnel he trusted. After a few rings, Luke answered the call. "Kraig, what's up?" Kraig's voice was filled with urgency. "Luke, I need you to find out everything you can about Wynn, and I mean everything. Follow that Bentley, check where it goes, who's inside, and anything unusual." Luke responded with a quick, "Understood, Kraig. I'll get on it right away." Kraig ended the call and leaned back in his seat, his mind racing with worry for Wynn. The cab soon arrived at the DeVille mansion, and Kraig rushed inside, his thoughts consumed by concern for his grandfather. He made his way to his grandfather's bedroom, where he found Kyle and a doctor in deep conversation. Kraig's eyes welled up with emotio
