The stepmother eyed him with disdain, her response laced with hostility. "Oh, another one of Wynn's friends? Shouldn't she be focusing on her studies instead of entertaining boys?"

Wynn remained silent, her eyes reflecting a mix of discomfort and frustration.

For a moment Kraig was speechless, and when his gaze met Wynn's, he noticed she was a bit embarrassed and uncomfortable with his presence.

"We're just friends, and we study together sometimes."

Undeterred, the stepmother continued her tirade, accusing Wynn of misplaced priorities. Kraig decided it was best not to engage further, sensing the futility of reasoning with her.
