Chapter 69

Stephen pov

"What are you going to do?" I asked with a smirk, my gaze fixed on him skeptically.

"I have some records that can prove you aren't the owner of the child, just get me out of here please," he says urgently, desperation tinting his words. A disbelieving scoff escaped my lips at his sudden plea. Doubt filled me as I considered his proposal.

"How can I trust you?" I asked, my smirk widening in a mix of amusement and suspicion.

"If I don't give you what I promised, arrest me again," he says, his voice laced with determination. I nod my head, acknowledging his words. I know there's nowhere he can escape to, our surveillance has eyes everywhere.

"Fine, please release him," I say to the police chief, my tone firm yet accommodating. The police chief quickly nods his head in agreement, understanding the urgency of the situation.

"One more thing, sir," he says, his voice now filled with a mixture of gratitude and desperation, before falling to his knees.

"I need work.
