The Rift

THE NEXT DAY……

As Miller swaggered into the Larkins' home, his scorn dripped from every word. "Well, well, what do we have here?" he sneered, his gaze sweeping over the humble surroundings with thinly veiled hatred.

Mr. and Mrs. Larkin exchanged uneasy glances, wondering what had come over him. His change in attitude had become a thing of concern. "Miller, dear, is everything alright?" Mrs. Larkin asked tentatively.

"Alright?" Miller scoffed, his lips curling into a smirk. "How could anything be alright in this... this hovel?"

Mrs. Larkin's eyes widened in hurt, while Mr. Larkin's jaw clenched in anger. "Now, son, there's no need for that kind of talk," Mr. Larkin said sternly, trying to be as calm as possible.

But Miller was beyond reason, he had a knowledge of his biological parents' wealth. "You expect me to stay in this dump? Amongst you... you... commoners?" he spat, his voice dripping with ridicule.
