Part 171

Victoria's breath caught in her throat, her mind racing to process the implications of those words. His words left her with more questions than answers.

"Please," she pressed, desperation evident in her voice. "I need to know where he is."

There was a sigh, and then the other person's voice softened just a fraction. "Victoria, trust me when I say that this situation is far more complicated than you can imagine. I'm doing everything I can to ensure Edward's safety. You must trust me."

The call ended abruptly, leaving Victoria with a sense of unease that settled deep in her chest. She leaned against the wall, her mind racing to make sense of the fragments of information she had gathered. She had always known that her family's world was complex and filled with secrets, but tonight's events had shattered any illusions she might have had.

Eloise's knock on the door broke Victoria out of her thoughts. Her sister's concerned voice came through the wooden door. "Victoria, are you okay?"
