Bloodlust

After he punched the boy, the blood which had flown out from his mouth ended up on Val’s chin.

He didn’t have time to feel disgusted by this as he was slowly losing control.

He was fully aware of this situation and the fact that he was a vampire or something like that.

It wasn’t the first time that he was losing control like this as it had first happened after he murdered the man who wanted to kill his brother.

Most of the few people who heard of this weren’t given the full details of what really happened.

Back then, the man lunged towards his brother with a poisonous dagger, and at that moment, something inside of him snapped.

It was more of a reflex action that he dashed towards the man at an astonishing speed with his hands stretched forward to grab his neck, but his fingers suddenly turned black and grew longer, causing it to go right through, as the man’s head was sent flying upwards.

Val stared at his right hand which was covered in blood and at that moment, something began to rise within him.

His heart rate accelerated as the finger on his left hand along with his canines extended.

This was not all as his skin paled with his bright red eyes glowing brightly.

He slowly brought the blood on his fingers to his mouth, but before it made contact, his brother who was some distance behind, still not completely comprehending what had happened, called out his name in worry.

When he turned around to face him, his brother froze in horror at the current state of his little brother and this got worse as Val began walking towards him with killing intent visible in his eyes

He was rooted to a spot as he watched his little brother inch to him, but just as Val reached a 1-meter gap, someone appeared beside him and easily knocked him unconscious by hitting his neck with his hand.

The same thing that happened back then was repeating itself, but he had more control than before which was due to all the training issued by no other than his father.

Although he was a vampire, it was relieving that unlike those he read about in books, he doesn’t go crazy at the sight of blood nor does he have to drink it regularly.

As a matter of fact, he was yet to drink blood

Also, from being outside by this time, it was clear that sunlight doesn't harm him.

The only time he ends up somewhat crazed is if he makes direct contact with blood, which was the case back then and right now.

Just as he erased the last feelings of bloodlust the voice of the girl he saved drifted into his ears.

“A-Are you okay?”

She was obviously worried about the chances of him being hurt.

“I’m alright. Get to your family quickly, it’s not safe to…”

He paused his statement as he heard footsteps approaching.

“Wait!” She shouted, stretching her hand forward as the person who saved her began to run away, leaving her alone and he was abnormally fast.

It wasn’t up to ten seconds later when several people appeared from behind and as their gazes fell on her, they all sighed in relief.

A woman walked forward, squatting down while holding on to the girl’s shoulders with worry in her eyes.

“Young Miss, are you alright?”

Even though she nodded in response the few scratches and dirt on her cloth said otherwise. She also noticed that the young Miss had her eyes locked in a particular direction

“Go towards there and make sure that none of them escapes.”

The girl who heard this snapped out of her thoughts as she tried to stop them.

“No! Wait!”

But she was too late as they already left.

“Don’t worry Erin; they won’t get away. This would never happen again.”

“But…

She was pulled into an embrace before she could complete her statement and realized that she had put her savior in big trouble.

Val who was beginning to formulate a plan on how to get across or through the city walls began hearing footsteps approaching his direction.

It was not precise, so he could tell that they were searching for someone, who was certainly him

“Tsk!” he clicked his tongue. “So much for saving.”

Val knew that it wouldn’t be long before they get a visual on him which surprised him since he was moving really fast.

Without a doubt, they were Divines and since continuing to run was a bad idea, he had to come up with something else.

“I’ll look over there,” one of the pursuers who was a woman voiced out to her other comrades before arriving at a route that had few people walking through.

Her eyes scanned around for anyone who could be a suspect when she saw a child who wore a cloak, seated on the ground just a few feet away from her.

She heard him say in a weak voice, “Miss…, please…, do you have some change to spare?

She shook her head in pity wondering how hard his life must’ve been up till now before tossing a fen to him, which he of course caught before bowing his head which was accompanied with sobs of joy.

How gracious he must feel.

She nodded in satisfaction before continuing her search

The boy who was given the coin stared at it with his red eyes as the sobs turned into a sigh of relief.

“That was easy.”

He was just a little dissatisfied as he had to rough himself up to appear more convincing.

“I guess I should hold on to this.” He put the coin in his pocket before continuing to the walls.

He made sure to walk in order not to draw any more attention as he has been lucky not to have done so till now.

It didn’t take long before he was standing in front of his last obstacle.
