Chapter 05: Ruler's footsteps

Chen Wu and Mei Lin walked out of the cave with heavy steps. The air in the valley felt colder, as if the world had changed after their encounter with the black-scaled creature. But for Chen Wu, things were different now. The energy he felt in his body now felt much stronger, like a fast river flowing through his veins.

“You… are different,” Mei Lin whispered, looking at Chen Wu with confused and amazed eyes. “Your eyes, your aura… everything changes.”

Chen Wu just stared at his own hands, where remnants of dark energy were still swirling, barely visible. “I don't know how to explain this, Mei Lin,” he said quietly. “But something has awakened inside me. And I think this is just the beginning of something big.”

Mei Lin was about to answer, but a roar from the direction of the cave stopped them. They turned around and saw that the cave door was starting to close by itself. Massive rocks collapsed, sealing the place back in eternal darkness.

“We can't go back,” Mei Lin said, her voice shaking slightly.

“No need,” Chen Wu replied in a cold tone. “All the answers are ahead, not behind.”

After returning to the clan territory, they found the atmosphere much more tense than usual. The disciples gathered on the practice field, their whispers ringing in the air. Some of them immediately looked at Chen Wu with shocked expressions as he passed by.

"He returns..."

“I heard he went to the Dark Valley.”

“How is he still alive?”

Chen Wu ignored them, but Mei Lin couldn't help herself. “Why are they all looking at you like that?” he whispered.

Chen Wu shook his head slowly. “Maybe they have heard something. But that's not important. I have to talk to Elder Yuan.”

When they arrived at the main hall, Chen Wu did not have to wait long. Elder Yuan had heard about his departure to the Dark Valley, and the old man was already waiting for him with an expression that was hard to read.

“Chen Wu,” Elder Yuan said slowly, his gaze sharp as a dagger. “What did you find in that valley?”

Chen Wu did not answer immediately. He knew that telling everything would have consequences. But he also knew that lying to Elder Yuan would only make the situation worse.

“I ran into something,” he said finally. “Something that says I'm his blood heir.”

Elder Yuan's face turned pale, and for the first time, Chen Wu saw a flash of fear in his eyes. "That creature..." he muttered. “So, the blood really is in you...”

Chen Wu stepped forward, his eyes looking directly into Elder Yuan's eyes. “You know something about this, don't you? About my mother, about my blood... and about why I am considered trash in this clan.”

Elder Yuan let out a heavy breath, as if the burden of years had just fallen onto his shoulders. “You're right,” he said quietly. “It's time you knew the truth.”

Elder Yuan led Chen Wu and Mei Lin to a secret room behind the main hall. The walls were decorated with carvings of dragons and ancient symbols that Chen Wu had never seen before. in the center of the room, a stone altar stood, with an ancient scroll lying on top.

“This is the hidden history of the Tianlong Clan,” Elder Yuan explained. “Something only supreme elders know.”

He opened the scroll, and inside was the image of a huge dragon with black scales, just like the creature Chen Wu had encountered in the cave.

“Hundreds of years ago, this clan was founded by a great ruler known as the Black Blood King. he is both human and dragon, a creature born of cursed blood but with the power to control the world. But his power was too great, and in the end, he disappeared after creating this clan.”

Chen Wu listened carefully, his heart beating faster and faster.

“But the blood never completely disappeared,” Elder Yuan continued. “His descendants live on, hidden among us. And you, Chen Wu, are one of them. You carry the blood of the Black Blood King within you. that is the reason why your mother was imprisoned—for giving birth to a child who carried this great destiny.”

Chen Wu clenched his fists, trying to restrain the emotions raging inside him. “So… they hate me just because I'm different?”

“Not just that,” Elder Yuan replied. “They are afraid. Your blood can bring destruction to this world, or be the key to saving it. That's why you've been considered a threat all this time."

Mei Lin, who had been silent, finally spoke. “So, what will happen now? Will Chen Wu be punished for his blood?”

Elder Yuan shook his head. "No. Now it's time for him to learn to control his powers. But this path will not be easy. There will be many who try to stop you, Chen Wu, both from outside and within this clan.”

Chen Wu raised his head, his glowing red eyes radiating a newfound determination. “I don't care how hard the road is. I will discover the truth about myself… and I will prove that I am more than just an heir of cursed blood.”

Elder Yuan stared at him silently for a moment, then nodded. "Okay. So starting tomorrow, you will be trained under my supervision. But remember, your strength is a double-edged sword. If you fail to control it, you will not only destroy yourself, but also this world.”

Chen Wu only answered with a firm nod. He knew that the road ahead was full of danger, but for the first time in his life, he felt that he finally had a purpose. And he vowed not to let anyone stop him.
