'Will Gurk be back?'
A certain small creature with green skin could be seen peeping its head outside the cave it was in and although goblins differ in looks and behaviour compared to humans, one could easily tell that the goblin seemed worried.
'Gurk promised to be back'
His name was Gork and he was feeling nervous since his friend that he grew up with is yet to return despite the sun already rising. He understood quite well what that meant but still strongly hoped that was not the case.
'Gurk will be back. Humans sleep when night. Perhaps he wandered further to find food and Gurk coming back. Maybe Gurk...'
His thoughts however where disturbed by someone grabbing his shoulder and he turned to look at who it was. It was an elderly goblin wearing slightly better clothing than him, with some paint on his old face and some feathers stuck in his hair. That was the clan's shaman named Gerk.
Gerk looked with pity at Gork and was shaking his head slightly. He was far more realistic than him and knew well that Gurk will most likely never return.
"Come back Gork. Sun up already. Humans can see and can kill Gork as well"
"What Gerk says must be wrong. Gurk alive coming back"
"Gork knows well that humans evil and kill poor goblins when see and when day already it must mean Gurk dead"
"No... Gurk..."
Gork looked very sad and he wanted to say that was not the case, that Gurk was alive, coming back with the food he found but... he knew the brutal reality and the fact that shaman was most likely right and this was the sad truth. Humans are evil and most often kill goblins when they see them, that is the first thing that young goblins learn after all.
They are the worst beings Gork ever heard of and he was feeling helpless since its even forbidden to fight back when facing them, that being the case since the not so distant past when other goblins naturally thought of fighting back and uniting other clans to do so but all that caused other even more evil humans to show up. They were called 'White devils' by the goblins because of their incredibly white armour with light blue crosses on them. They were also extremely brutal and merciless, killing and burning every goblin they spotted on their bloody path. Since that time they regularly visit the forest and hunt them for some unknown reason. All of that caused the goblins to seek refuge in caves, ravines and other dark places.
Gork started to accept what happened when he recalled the tale of the tragic goblin war and walked deeper into the cave, accompanying him was the shaman who was not looking to bright either. Gerk had a giant frown on his face since he will be the one forced to tell the hundred or so goblins that now there were ninety-nine of them left...
***
Some hours passed and Gork was sitting in a corner of the cave, still sad after what happened today. He couldn't understand why life must be so cruel.
'No! Humans cruel not life! Humans should die for what they did to Gurk!'
His sadness finally started to evolve towards more violent emotion. He had enough of doing nothing and watching his friends and comrades die one by one, he made up his mind.
'Gork will make humans pay!'
He rushed towards the centre and climbed a rock that made him see the whole cave. It was quite spacious and easily housed what was left of this goblin clan.
What Gork saw could be classified as extremely depressing. Every goblin looked malnourished and even children couldn't bear to smile in such a sad environment. That sight only reaffirmed his belief that things need to change.
"Listen to Gork!"
He screamed and everyone turned to look at him. What they saw was a young goblin with anger and determination in his eyes. They all walked up to him and wanted to know what he had to say.
"Gork tired of living like this! Humans kill goblins one by one. Gork can't stand it! Goblins should fight evil humans and change things!"
Hearing this the crowd was stunned. It was completely forbidden to fight human since the goblin war that happened around fifty years ago, still some young goblins agreed with Gork and started shouting as a response.
"Gork right! Humans kill goblins even when we peaceful! Humans should die!"
"Humans evil! Humans die!"
They crowd was starting to get restless and more and more goblins started to agree with what Gork proposed. Seeing this Gork also felt like he was doing the right thing, however the crowd went silent after hearing a certain elderly goblin reject the idea.
"Gork crazy! Humans too strong and will kill every goblin. Gerk understands Gork but that a suicide for goblins"
Gork however simply sneered when he heard the shaman talk.
"Humph! Maybe goblins will die but at least goblins die fighting not hiding!"
The crowd was once again in an uproar. Most of them agreed with Gork.
"This will not... Cough! Cough!"
The shaman wanted to refute but he suddenly started coughing. The other goblins shortly after also started doing the same. Gork was not an exception and understood that something was terribly wrong. Before he could guess however a screaming half-burned goblin ran in.
"White devils! White devils burning fire at the entrance!"
Gork's mind was instantly filled with anger.
"Goblins grab weapons! Attack white devils!"
After saying so he grabbed a small stone knife and started to rush out of the cave, other goblins that could fight also did the same grabbing whatever they had and running behind Gork.
"Roooar!"
Gork was roaring and running as fast as he could, soon he exited the cave and the first thing he saw was a human wearing a black robe. He was holding some sort of black stick and strangely aimed it at him. That was also the last thing Gork saw...
Nathaniel was standing alone on an endless beach. He was admiring the ocean, the birds and the sunny sky. His mind was clear of thoughts and you could say that he felt happy to just stand there with no worries and no one to bother him. Nate's tranquil state was however interrupted by a soft sounding voice coming from behind him. "Nathaniel~" 'Huh?' He turned and saw Sara. She was wearing a bikini and standing next to a campfire, something was being cooked on it. "Do you want a snack~?" "A snack?" She procced to pick something up from the fire but Nathaniel was unable to see what it was so he took a few steps forward. "This!" Nathaniel was horrified to see a severed head of a goblin. The blood was gushing out of it like it was freshly cut, the sight was so terrifying that it couldn't even be placed in a horror movie. He turned his head to look at Sara but he could only hear a demonic laughter as everything turned black around him... *** Inside a small tent, Nathaniel could be
A group of holy knights could be seen going through the city. Leading the group was Sara and just behind her was Nathaniel. They just returned from their little mission and were going back to the cathedral belonging to the Church of Purity. 'This is just insane' Everyone looked cheerful and occasional chatter could be heard. Of course, Nate was an exception since what he experienced in just four days since he first met Sara could easily classify as traumatic. That experience taught him something however, the fact that this world was brutal. 'I need to get stronger otherwise I will be forced to spend more time with those psychos' His determination to get powerful was growing by the second he spent with the knights but other more negative and dark emotions grew as well and because of this he felt happy to finally see their destination. The cathedral gave a holy and an impressive feeling but Nathaniel only felt disgust when he looked at it. For him this place was filled with crazy ex
Inside the emperor's office three people could be seen, two of them were seated and one was not. The Grand Priest was obviously the one standing and he was hoping for an answer to his previous question from either Nate or the emperor Julius. They both however just looked at him expressionless. "I am sorry for walking in like that. I can understand your frustration so please forgive me" Cornelius noticing the awkwardness decided to apologize. 'Everyone here is just a bad egg I guess' Nate thought so as he heard the apology nevertheless, he put on his fake happy smile. "No need to apologize. It's my fault for not going to you first, knowing how much you worry about me" Saying this he stood up from his chair. "Actually, the emperor and I were already finishing our talk. Why don't we have a walk and I will share what I experienced with you?" "Oh? That's a great idea, let's do that" Both Nate and the priest bowed slightly to the emperor and they left together to have a 'friendly'
A week passed. Nathaniel was currently walking through the city. This time without any company. 'It's nice to not be watched over for a change' He finally put his foot down and fought for some freedom and although there was opposition, he got that much with the support from Cornelius and the emperor agreeing after some 'small talk' and few empty promises. 'I wish I could enjoy it more but alas duty calls. I can't put it off anymore...' The duty Nathaniel was thinking of was his 'redemption' which was nothing more than another mission that once again involved the Church of Purity and Its Grand Master. Together they would travel towards the city of Tristam and investigate the rumours about the demon worshippers. He obviously was unhappy about meeting the 'crazy b*tch' and working with her again but he also was additionally agitated by the fact that he was already close to his breakthrough but had to go on what Nate deemed a stupid mission. 'Well, it's not that bad, I guess... With
Nathaniel could be seen cultivating inside a small tent. His current mana could be compared to a glass filled with water that was close to overflowing. He was currently on a verge of reaching the fourth awakening! 'That's enough I guess' Strangely though he decided against reaching that realm. 'With this I should be able to advance even in the middle of a fight. Haha' His thinking was simple. He wanted to hide his strength and shock the potential opponent in a crucial moment of the fight. He even imagined himself as the main character of a novel that was in a losing fight but suddenly advanced with the power of 'friendship' and overcoming the difficulty. However, he suddenly decided against it. 'Scratch that. I always disliked that cheap trope and I still have that thing going for me' He had a mood swing and with that he advanced to the realm that many mages cried over casually as if it was nothing. Others had to spend at least two decades learning magic while being talented eno
City of Tristam... It was located to the north of Constantinople, but couldn't be considered nowhere near as large and passed to people as rural. The population dwindled around ten thousand and the only thing that makes the city stand out a bit is its beautiful, natural landscape. It was constructed close to the lake and the water surrounds the city walls with the exception of the eastern side where the city gate was located. Tristam was of no strategic importance and was small but it still would be very hard to siege it. An army would have no way of cutting the supply since it was near a lake and could by resupplied with local ships, on top of that there was only one side of the wall that could even be assaulted by the soldiers. Sadly, they were facing no army but a cult of demon worshipers... *** A group of holy knights could be seen entering the city of Tristam. Sara was of course leading the party with Nathaniel just behind her. They were both stunned by what they saw upon
Nathaniel woke up quite early. He wanted to do a lot so he did not waste time. He went down the stairs and was slightly surprised to see that Sara was talking with some stranger. The person who she was talking to was a middle aged man who wore some simple leather armour. His expression could tell that he was not bringing good news and Sara did not look too happy while he spoke. Nate approached her only when she was done and the man left. "What's up?" "What's up!? Tsk... That guy who I just talked with is a city guard and he was kind enough to report to me that one of my knights was found dead close to twenty minutes ago..." Nate didn't look too surprised. "Oh? What happened to him?" "Cultists, most likely. From what I gathered he was ambushed when he, for whatever unknown reason, left the tavern for a walk. F*cking moron! I would kill him myself if I could for being so stupid!" 'Hmm... so my initial guess about their strategy seems to be right...' "Where there any witnesses? I
In the dark alley Nathaniel was standing over a small, young girl. She looked no older than twelve. Her pitch-black, messy hair was long enough to reach the ground and that maybe shouldn't be thought of as special considering the fact that she was currently kneeling and looking at her hands covered with her own blood. The clothes that she was wearing were torn. Her body was full of bruises, scratches and cuts, not to mention she looked malnourished. "You okay kid?" Nathaniel asked a very stupid question, nevertheless that caused the girl to finally look up. Her eyes were completely devoid of emotion and Nate could see his own reflection on them. That sight seemed to have finally soften his heart a little. He raised his arm over her head and chanted some spell. A green light appeared that seemed to nourish her body. Her wounds quickly disappeared and some colour returned to her dry face. 'I don't trust myself with healing her directly with my chant less magic but that spell I remem
