"Dear Diary.
Today is the day! Samuel and I are finally going to run off together and leave my ludicrous father once and for all. I'm so sick of all the talk, I can barely wait to be free. Father will probably not even notice I'm gone, too busy with Mayor folly to mind. Truthfully between me and you; I am rather scared but Sam has assured me that together we will be fine and that he will protect me. He is a fisherman at least, so I guess fish will be on the menu...a lot.I am hopeful that through this that Sam and I will become more than just friends, is that wrong? I know he sees me more of a little sister than a woman, ... Not that he likes women anyway which is so frustrating. He's the only guy around here with any sort of manners or courtesy that is not full of himself or old enough to be my uncle. It makes me happy to know once we are out there nobody will judge us or treat us like freaks. Although I have spent my whole life here, I am going to miss Innigo the most, despite our very short friendship. He may be cheeky but he did not mind me taking his blue collar for a memento, it will never ever leave my wrist, even on my wedding day."Daniella narrates before she stops writing."Well, here we go."Daniella exhales, closing her diary and placing it in her satchel with her coin purse, silver mirror, ivory comb and other essentials.Creeping through the halls, sneaking down stairs in the dead of night."Stop!"Demands an elderly maid."And where do you think you are going, young lady?""To get water Ma'am.""No you will not. Go back to your room and I shall fetch it for you. Understood?""Yes Ma'am."Daniella turns back towards the wide spiralled staircase and walks forward slowly with an attentive ear.~There she goes. Ok, this is it!~Quietly scurrying across to the broad heavy door, her small feminine hand twists the large brass lock. Closing the door behind her being careful as to make as little sound as possible, her legs begin to tremble...***Growing up, all the other kids would make fun of her because she came from a noble home and always wore expensive clothing. Daniella never understood why the other children did mean things to her and did not want to be her friends. Her mother never comforted her through the times she cried and her father was always busy or away sorting out the family business. Being pretty did not help her situation. Her whole life she always wanted siblings, somebody she could play with without having to leave the grounds. From the window she would watch the other children playing together: friends, family, everybody looked so happy. One day Daniella notices a girl the size of an insect, wearing a variegated dress made of petals and long many-hued hair fluttering like a ribbon in the wind, sat kicking her colourful legs in a cup of water. Listening carefully she can hear the tiny glamorous creature singing a song as quiet as the wind's gentle breeze. Not a song of words, but a song of sounds. Daniella had never heard anything so beautiful, no human had. Enchanted as she was, her heart felt light, but jumped when the being quickly turned facing her. Frightened as she was, still her nature was simply to smile in wonder and adore, thankfully she mirrored her ways. Looking at each other both were equally a mystery to one another. Danielle decides to do something she had never tried before: hum a melodious tune in an attempt to communicate... of course, it comes out less harmonious than expected. The tiny one laughs hysterically and she tries something she had never tried before: speak human... of course it comes out more like a squeak than a word. They both laugh together without a care in the world.Despite the language barrier, both played happily together. Daniella had finally found a friend, somebody who was not mean but equally as caring. Daniella knew nobody would believe her about her new playmate so she kept her a secret. One day the girl is not by her home, instead a colorful metallic novelty lay in her place. Saddened, interpreting this to be a goodbye gift she took the plant to her room. The moon rose and fell over the Baldwin manor for a whole nine nights without a word. The plant each endless day drank to its fill with tears of a broken heart.Eventually the metallic blanket cracked open and out stepped Saieru, a woman of her kind now, adorned with colorful wings, each spanning the size of a woman's palm. Her leaf made dress covered only half of her now and wore an expression of panic which Daniella understood.Daniella pulled a leaf from the beautiful plant and gave it carefully, Saieru struggling to cover herself gratefully accepted. Standing, wearing the leaf like a bath towel she smiles, showing off her elegant new wings. Daniella nods and smiles in amazement and approval. For a whole twelve full moons the two met everyday in secret and would play together and learn how to communicate on some level. However, fairies of all schools have an understanding: never expose themselves to humans taller than a rose bush. This rule has helped to preserve their species and violation of this law is banishment for an eternity which, for such a social creature is worse than death. Saieru felt sadness that grew as her friend became taller, their friendship had to soon come to an end but she was unable to express it.Saieru just like the rest of her kind lived in the extreme spectrum of personality; either incredibly kind, or, the other way. Her tiny heart could contain the whole world but with love comes loss and heartbreak. Knowing their time was almost up, she decided to paint with the dyes of flowers a beautiful pocket size picture of Daniella with her mother Enya. She was not blind of the relationship between the two but she understood that Daniella still loved her all the same and hoped that one day they could amend such a broken relationship. As she aged the bullying became more physical, returning from playing with bruises and grazes not caused by child's play. The name calling and teasing evolved over the years into more agonizing words. People saw how her mother was harsh and cruel towards her, never giving an ounce in love people began to suspect the worst. People would question how a family of dark hair could produce a girl of golden locks with the worst kind of conclusions. Rumours spread like wildfire.Outdoors became a frightening prison for the young girl, full of abuse and torture. Crying at the window was far too common for a young woman so innocent in a cruel world.***...Facing the door reminded Daniella of the day when all that was left of her best friend was a small picture of her and mum. She never understood why, she never understood anything but a heartbreak they both shared from opposite sides of the cities walls. Daniella never told anybody about her secret friend but over time understood that for whatever reason she left, at least she was free to fly wherever she wanted and that gave closure and a tiny unending spark of hope."Pull it together, I can do this!"Daniella says turning to face the court, trying to gather the courage to see her plan through. Scanning for any witnesses in the empty yard."This is it!"Daniella runs across the garden, heart racing faster than ever in her life. Climbing the gate she turns back looking at the house she had spent her whole life in, in sadness. Her father loved her and she knew he did, she wondered how he would feel once he found out she had gone."Pssst" a voice whispers from the shadows…Daniella can see it's Samuel dressed rather oddly in a large dark blanket, looking rather devious. "Sam, you made it!" Daniella smiles relieved. "C'mon let's get outta here." Samuel whispers, acting as sketchy as he's dressed. Taking his hand they ran, for her each step was like something of fairy tales, for him it was full of the dread of being caught trying to kidnap a noble. They ran through the dark alleys of Vatala taking in it's beautiful fragrance one last time before arriving at a secret tunnel Samuel had known to be used for smuggling. He had never actually utilized this tunnel but he knew where it started from and where it ended... or so he thought. The decaying ladder lowered them directly into the forsaken rat squeals of sewers. Daniella was not delighted. "Ewww!" she squeaked, stepping into the wet stinky dark. "This is the only way out. It's this or go back." Samuel convinces his disgusted friend. "Here, take my hand." She squeezes his hand for a second time, f
The Forest of Vatala had never looked so claustrophobic through the darting watch of Faris, sporadically searching for signs of Axil. No tracks, no traces, no time to lose, no direction, just running as fast as a racing heart. Bird ballads impossible to hear through, trees barricade every view and amidst the unseen lies daunting possibilities. "Axiiilll?" Faris calls over and over through the trees. Miya watches from the camp, rising to keep her companion in need in sight. "We should check the river." Miya suggest. "Do you know the way?" Agrees Faris in despondency. "Of course." Miya calmingly smiles. The beautiful pallet of Vatala forest hums bleak across the browns, greys and rich greens. White fog of each breath, hard ground and the silent echo accentuate the atmosphere of despair in the hope, and hope, in the despair. Trees as old as the Earth stand against the winds of time, cold rocks watch another body cross what was never a path. Birds invariably chirp from the most
"Wake up, wake up!!!" Samuel whispers. "Are we... where are we?" "Stay quiet! Listen; The cage is locked!" "What?" Daniella ask, still dazed."How long has it been locked?" "I've no idea. I woke up just a moment ago." "Where is he taking us?" "I'm not sure, but I do know we are heading west judging by the sun!" "What should we do?" "Stay quiet, pretend to still be asleep. When he opens the cage we startle him and make a run for it." "Will that wor...." "-You two, quite back there!"The harsh voice of the coachman scorns. "Where are you taking us?" Demands Samuel. "You'll see, .." The rider laughs ".. We're almost there now." "You cannot do this to us! You hear?" Screams Lady Daniella, finding her authoritative voice. "We have paid you for a service and demand that you set us free!" The wagon keeps going to the sound of whipping and donkeys panting. - Vatala's doors thud with mighty fist echoing through the beating city. From above a voice asks "What business do
Chaos trembles through the veins of Vatala, it's heart gushes panic and despair. Defenders cannot stop the giants demolishing all in their path like a wildfire, consuming what falls in its blaze. A butchery from which all try flee, each running only for themselves. The western tower bell outcries for help. The city shakes as spears, swords and amour march to its aid halting in a disciplined, condemning formation. The pack laughs at the threat, watching the sky fall red. The city's western forces all gather outside the clock placed by strategic advantages. The Titans stand proud before swordsmen, spearmen and archers like wolves surrounded by sheep. The sun falls under the moon's mighty presence. Reflections of white gaze through the dark, scolding and vicious. "Throw down your shields and kneel, last chance or by God we will strike you down!"Commander Victor demands atop his steel dressed steed. The outsiders laugh and begin to hit the ground in rhythm using their shields as drums.
Snow begins to gently fall from the night sky, glowing against the moonlight in beautiful silence. Plummeting from the heavens a body crashes hard into the ground, splitting dry on impact. Looking up, a cloaked silhouette flutters in the gentle breeze. The cursed recognize her scent: one of the damned! Wrapped in armour and cloaked in exotic fabrics, Carmilla was as beautiful as she was Stylish. Floating down and landing gracefully, she wipes the blood from her mouth. "At last, it's just us." Carmilla remarks in a condescending tone. Heavy shields of black oak and steel are thrown to the ground, they stand shoulder to shoulder, snarling viciously against the amber gaze. Carmilla flings her hands open with nails as thick and long as dagger blades, exposing her elongated fangs. Adrenaline of their meals still powers through their veins fresh, under a hunters moon the children of Loki are ready for battle. Raged breathing of the wolves contrasts the vampire's stillness of death. Fen
Fighting against the winds, Daniella manoeuvres as swiftly as she can away from the ever loudening deep growls and cursing. The pouring blood from her fingers continues to wet her hand, leaving a red splattered trail. Shaking and gasping, each cold breath cuts through her lungs. Naked trees, thorny bushes and frozen blades encompass her like a dirty damp blanket. Danielle's heart beats like it wants to burst out of her chest, hurting more with each hit. Tears and earth particles obscure sight as the blood loss draws life out, causing Daniella to fall far paler than natural. Against nature's hard cold force each step becomes harder to push through. Tripping over a thick surfaced root, smacking shock through her skull on a tree trunk she falls into a ringing emptiness. The sounds of terror close in through the wind whistling between wooden bones and bushes. Daniella lays still, losing blood from her hand and head. Blackness and dredd, barking and shouting, soaked and shivering. "There
Rushing to reach the voice that calls, Faris runs into the thick fog of the forest, Miya close behind. Each stride into the clouded sea submerges the pair deeper, drowning them in blindness. "Stay close." Faris gently says as he looks back. Miya struggles to keep up, almost stumbling in the black coat she barely fills. "Shhh, I can still hear him." Faris whispers with his hand pointing upwards, slowing into a cautious walk. Kneeling to a stop, Miya does the same. Holding breath and concentrating, the harder he listens, the more vague the direction of origin. ~Am I hearing things?~ "Can you hear him?" Faris whispers, reluctant to pull even further into fates clutches. Miya kneeling with her limbs tight together points her gloved hand in the direction they have been moving in. Faris looks into her golden eyes with his eyebrows slightly curved upwards, unable to say the words. Miya assuringly nods. Moving forward into the nothingness, the voice fades ethereal amidst the blindnes
Vatala'a bells scream through the blood stained twilight. Below the monstrous wings of Carmilla, Olcan's body reverted from beast to human, lay bloodless. Dominating the sky amidst her minions, the night lord presents her palms forward, conjuring a thick wild red thundering stream, storming from the glowing rune cast. Trapped inside the pit of red mist, the cursed leap and run to evade the crimson lightning beam that seeks them. Loudly crackling in dark sovereignty, the spell absorbs the very life of all it bleeds. Raising her arms, the cyclone of bats swarm the cursed children of Loki, biting and scratching as they encase them, sending red particles to their master. Agnaar howls with force strong enough to quake the moon. Night slaves fall to the ground, disoriented and wounded. Carmilla covers her elongated ears and closes her eyes in pain, unable to tolerate it's deafening power. The bats blindly flee into the red fog, skin exploding as they enter. Brenn howls alongside Agnaar
