Vana's POV
“I’ve been waiting, Vana. Take a seat and tell me everything you’ve been up to these past few days.”
I gulped, trembling as I make my way on the seat across from Storm. I sat down, my mouth pursed as I obediently listen to his stern request. My head lowered, and my hand on my knees. My gaze lowered to the ground, unable to dare to glance at brother’s direction.
“I’m asking you again, Vana. What happened while I was gone?” Storm repeated, his voice cold and bleak.
“A lot…” I murmured.
“And those are…?”
“Being seen together with Jerome Gallamon and leaving Green Serpent,” I answered, conceding to his question.
I can see brother’s shadow down on the floor, his silhouette moving as though he changed his sitting pos
Vana's POV“We need to get to Wrath Medona first before Chairman Zeronadle does, and to do that, Jerome and I will have to get inside the Fortis Magic Tower Prison and talk to Wrath Medona.”“And you think I’ll allow you to go there?” Storm wondered; a brow raised at me.“If you can take me there, I was hoping you would,” I replied. I have a bad feeling about this.“No,” he muttered. I knew it.“Why not? You know what’s transpiring, why won’t you let me go there?” I asked, questioning him with furrowed eyes.“Do you not know dangerous that place is?” Storm exclaimed. “It’s the home of the most dangerous criminals in the continent, even criminals and evil people from the Dark Ages are still locked up there,” he pointed.
Vana's POVIt took almost two weeks before I found myself sailing in the ocean after we were granted permission to meet Wrath Medona. We’ve been on the ship for three days, sailing the vast sea to reach the forts of Fortis. And I am for sure starting to get seasick for being aboard for this long.Storm managed to get us access inside the Fortis Magic Tower Prison just in time when I informed Gregory of his temporary cooperation in our mission and investigation. I don’t know how he pulled it off, but it’s certainly something I need to ask him about. It will take almost a month to arrive and return from our destination in Fortis and back to the capital, with the journey taking many stopovers. Our first stop was to travel by train to the main harbor of Clove, where the traveller ships to Fortis are docked, and it takes us a day by train from the capital to the Clove Harbor.
Vana's POV “It’s nice to meet you, Ms. Vana Farasol and Mr. Jerome Gallamon. I’m General Kale Maxima, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” My mouth gaped in surprise and astoundment, frozen in my spot. I don’t know what to do, do I greet him or shake hands with him or what? I stared at Mr. Kale for a long while as he and Storm exchange a few words, catching his attention after he notices my stare. “What’s with the look? Did you get a jetlag from the journey?” he asked with a cheerful tone. “Ah—no. I’m Vana, and this is Jerome,” I introduced, bobbing my head at Jerome as I also introduce him. “Your partner?” he wondered. I hesitated to answer, exchanging glances at Jerome. I don’t want to say we’re partners without his consent, but I also don’t know what to answer to Mr. Kale. “She is,” Jerome responded, with his ga
Vana's POV It took three days and three nights before we caught sight of our destination, the valley of Fellonwither, with its cliffs visible over the horizon. The last three days of the journey is excruciating, with the cold biting my skin to the point that Storm and I were forced to use our magic on everyone to prevent us from freezing to death. It was mostly Storm’s efforts, as I was too scared to fully manifest my magic. I haven’t bathe for almost five days now, and yet I can’t smell anything. I’d probably catch a cold once we return to Ashern. I’m fairly certain that’ll happen to me and Jerome. They valley of Fellonwither came into full view as the carriage neared a border check, high wall of cement, brick, and barbwires awaiting us in a mile. On our right, the high cliffs of the valley came into view, with small built-in cave systems and balconies protruding from within
Vana's POVThe look on Wrath Medona’s eyes changed, a serious expression plastered on his face. “How do you know the name of Igneus’ leader?” he asked, sternly.“I told you; it was because we met her,” I answered, repeating.“They are hiding, how did you find them?” Wrath—Mr. Wrath growled.“By coincidence? Because of a double spy in Igneus who turned out to be a traitor,” I answered, musing. “I’m sure you know who Mr. Archi is. He betrayed Igneus and sided with your enemy.”Mr. Wrath scoffed, his lips deviously perking up out of disdain. He stepped forward close to his cell, eyeing me a look. He glanced at Storm, who stood at the corner of the room, studying the two of us before he speaks.“And why should I believe your words? I don’t have any rea
Vana's POV “He’ll need the Amethyst of Darkness,” Mr. Wrath muttered, which made me think of the elements of magic. “But the Amethyst of—” “Vana,” Storm called, cutting my words off as he gives me a warning look. I clamped my mouth shut, covering it with my hand as I realize the mistake I nearly made. Jerome glanced at me with a baffled look, brows knitted. His confusion is understandable. I was not supposed to know anything about the elements of magic. Although it is common knowledge that there are seven elements of magic, not all people know that those elements are once sealed in crystals at one point, and are scattered in different locations of the three dimensional worlds. Now those elements are stored within different weapons as a result of the Dark War. The Elemental Weapons are known to many wizards, but not to the common folk. But the Elemental Crystals is the elements of magic’s history that should not be mentioned lightly. The reason why I know the existence of the Ele
3rd POVWrath lied down on his bed as he listens to the fading screams beyond the door of his isolation room. He is barely curious of the scene beyond the door, uninterested at his fellow prisoners’ rampage. Footsteps reached his ear, followed by the clanging sound of keys, and that made him curious. It was past midnight, but Wrath was unable to put himself to sleep. He has a thought stuck at the back of his head, his meeting with Vana Farasol repeating in his mind. The sound of his room’s door opening startled him, flinching as he sat straight out of his bed. He turned his head to see the person who visited him this late in the night, having a bad feeling deep in his chest. The man stepped inside the room, with his cloak’s hood resting on top of his head. The tower’s patrol commander stood at the wall outside of the room, keeping an eye outside as the cloaked
3rd POV “Vana Farasol and Jerome Gallamon,” he muttered. “Well, isn’t that interesting?” Wrath flinched, his gaze wavering as he makes a fatal mistake. He immediately regretted his decision of giving the Chairman a hint, clucking his tongue. He didn’t know Chairman Zerondale personally know Vana and Jerome, and now because of it, he just ruined everything and turned the tides over to their enemy. “You look like you regretted it,” Chairman Zerondaled chortled. Wrath glared at Chairman Zerondale, gritting his teeth as he despises the Chairman’s presence. He shut his eyes, hissing in frustration and annoyance at himself. He should not have played games with him. Now, the Chairman knows Vana and Jerome are going after him. The Chairman pierced a devious smirk across his face, his eyes full of mischief and coy, stepping back in a few steps as he approaches t
Vana's POV“I do. I plan to return to Ashern after I graduate. I also plan to publicly leave the Shadows and remain its member in the dark. Then, I’ll open my own detective agency—”“You’re opening your own agency!” Jerome exclaimed, slamming his hands on the table, which startled me. “Seriously?”“Y-yes?” I stammered, bewildered. “Something wrong with it?”“Not really, but you’re going to do that alone?” Jerome scowled.“No, why do you think I’m telling it to you?”“It’s not what I think, is it?”“More or less. It’s what I need your opinion—or your answer, in this case. I can’t do it alone, and that’s a fact. That’s why, if you would like, I would like to have a partnersh
Vana's POVI stared in front of Green Serpent’s guildhall as I arrive at their doorsteps, contemplating myself. I gulped, pursing my lips as I hesitate to take a step forward. Maybe it’s a wrong idea to be here. The last time I stepped foot in this place was when I left the guild. Since then, I never tried or dared to return or join any other guild. I have other plans for the future. None of them includes joining another guild, even if it is Golden Scorpion.“Vana, I thought you wouldn’t arrive,” a voice called, and I turned to face who it was. Cara plastered a smile on her face as she came up to me, her hair flailing on her bare shoulders.“Good afternoon, Cara,” I greeted with a thin line on my face.“Why haven’t you entered?” she wondered.“Well…” I hesitated, gla
Vana's POV9 months laterI got off the train with my suitcase rolling on the ground, lifting my hands up in the air as the sun beamed above me. It’s been six months since the last time I was in Auregon. It’s been nine months since the Case of the Serpent and Scorpion came to an end. Many things happened in the past nine months. Many to be even count in my hands. I don’t even know where to start. After Chairman Zerondale’s arrest, he was jailed in the palace dungeons and was investigated for nearly a whole month by the royal investigators. He was put in trial the following month after the investigation, with all the charges we filed to him. It took almost two months for all his crimes to be verdicted, and in the end, he was sentenced to death.Lifetime of servitude or liftetime in prison wasn’t enough of a verdict for all
Vana's POV“You’re right. I made a mistake… a lot more than I could have ever imagined,” Master Sergis agreed, muttering.I flinched, my head tilting down at Master Sergis’ direction. His hands crumpled the letter, staring at it with his teeth gritting. A regretful gaze flickered in his eyes, raising it up at the ice wall’s direction.“From the beginning, I should have known something is going on when Zerondale enticed me against Ashemre. I should have… noticed that he fabricated it all,” he admitted, his voice full of sorrow and regret.“I knew Ashmere wasn’t that kind of person, and my wife would never betray me like that,” he mentioned, pertaining to the conversation between Ms. Madison and Master Ashmere that led to a cheating misunderstanding.“I should have… listened to t
Vana's POV“And I have the evidence to prove it,” I boasted.Heads turned and raised up at me as I yell, jaws dropped and irritated looks carved out of their faces. I stood in front of them with my back straight, breath hitching as my actions sink into my head. What in the magic did I just do?“Now you’ve done it…” Jerome mumbled with a sigh next to me.Not only did I used my magic arbitrarily and unexpectedly, but I also revealed the journal right from the start without any prior explanation. It’s already a mess, and I think I only made things messier.“How are the two of you even here? Aren’t you supposed to be executed?” Master Sergis asked in a shout. “Wha—how—” That is exactly the reason why things got complicated. It was surprising
Vana's POV“Case closed…” I mumbled with an unsettling feeling in my chest.“Vana, are you okay?” Jerome asked as he ran towards me in concern.I blinked, flustered as Jerome took my hand as soon as he knelt next to me. My eyes widened, but I remained composed as I pick myself up. “I’m… fine. I just… felt underwhelmed by everything,” I said, standing up from my spot.A soft smile curled up my lips as I assure him. He held my hand gently and we walked down from the stage. The chaos was all over the place, but my gaze fixated on Jerome as we head down the stage together.I followed him from behind, my eyes going back and forth between his back and his bleeding hands that held mine. I paused on my step, unable to stop the urge to speak.“Are you satisfied? About your revenge?&r
Vana's POV“Do you see it now? We lured you in a trap, Chairman Zerondale. Do you think I would be stupid enough not to realize that you were planning to assassinate the king?” I stated, a smirk plastered on my face.Chairman Zerondale stepped back, horror and fury stirring in his eyes. His jaw clenched, gritting his teeth with his eyes glaring at me. The Shadows surrounded him at the back center of the platform, our weapons drawn.“You can’t run away from your crimes forever, Chairman Zerondae. It’s time for you to face it,” Jerome said, taking a step forward.A sharp curve cured on Chairman Zerondale’s lips, a hysteric laugh leaving his mouth. He laughed out loud, a grim atmosphere emitting out in the air. He raised his eyes at us, a grim smile plastered on his face.“You can arrest me all you want, but I will alw
Vana's POV“Can you do it?” I asked Gregory as I roam inside his room.Gregory, Jerome, and I gathered inside his chambers to cast the illusion spell as part of our trap against Chairman Zerondale. Thanks to the information Professor Zander provided from the Magic Council Tower, and with a bit of calculation, inferencing, and assumptions, we narrowed down the day the Chairman would assassinate the king.“Shall we start then?” Gregory implored, standing at the center of his chambers. He glanced at me, gesturing for me to move out of the room as he prepares himself to cast the spell. Jerome observed the scene from outside of the room, leaning against the doorframe with his injured body covered with gauze. It hasn’t been a week since we were treated, and his bruises aren’t healed with magic either.I moved ove
3rd POVThe halls of Jasper Academy remained peaceful as the new academic year began. It won’t be long for Professor Zander to be asked to return to the academy, having to start teaching his new students. Unfortunately, he’s still in the middle of a mission. He made it an excuse that he’ll be having orientations with his new class, hiding his main objective of heading to the Magic Council Tower. Gregory already made arrangements with Angela about the Special Unit helping them, requesting Angela’s mother, Chairwoman Iris, to access the tower.Professor Zander lurked around the hallways near the Magic Council Tower, observing the people entering in and out of the tower. In the few minutes of his observation, only Chairwoman Iris entered the tower, with none of her assistants following her inside. It was the signal he’d been waiting for; one that Angela and Gregory menti
