Vana' POV
“Yes, I have, Vana. It’s about Wrath Medona. It’s about the Book of Dragon.”
“Wait, what about Wrath Medona?” I asked, quickly forgetting that Gregory hasn’t met Ms. Mera yet.
“I’ll say it after you introduce me to the people gathered behind you,” Ms. Mera said, her eyes raising above my head.
I frowned, turning around as I find Gregory, Yuna, and Professor Zander standing behind me. I raised a brow at them, wondering why they’re all behind me. I didn’t even notice their presence behind me until Ms. Mera pointed it out.
“She’s right,” Gregory said distantly, agreeing with Ms. Mera.
I was baffled for a moment, staring at Gregory before I scooted my seat over to the side. I followed Gregory an eye, observing at his interaction with Ms. Mera. I coug
Vana's POVThe city of Scrothia is found south of Ashern, located between the dry deserts on the west and the lush greenery of the east. Most habitable and luscious cities of Ashern are found in the east, with only some residing in the harsh dry and hot climate conditions of the deserts in the west.Scrothia is a city that belongs to both, and the city serves as a boundary and border between the dry lands and the mainlands of Ashern.“The hot weather sure travels all the way inside the city,” Ms. Rosemary commented as we arrive at our lodging for our stay in the city.I’m not gonna lie, it’s definitely hot here. I’ve been sweating profoundly for the last couple of hours that I changed my top from a linen long sleeve to a knitted croptop. Everyone else have also felt the hot temperature and changed into something suitable for the climate.
Vana's POV A handful of wizards surrounded us from all direction, weapons pointed at us as they corner us inside the tower. The team stepped forward to have a talk with us, led by Chairman Zerondale whose staff thudded against the ground. “You’ve been helping Igneus this whole time…” Ms. Rosemary mumbled, glowering at us in disdain. “It’s not what you think it is,” I argued. “You’ve got it all wrong,” Jerome said, denying the accusation. “From the way I see it, we’re not. You are colluding with Igneus, Jerome. You and Vana are working with Igneus. Chairman Zerondale’s assumption turns out to be true,” Ms. Angela stated, convicted as she takes the Chairman’s side. This was his plan all along. To turn us against the team. To bait us out and trap us to make us look like traitors. With that, me and Jerome would become enemies; criminals. Cha
Vana's POV Darkness clouded my vision as my body liquidify within the Shadow Realm. Terror and fear crawled up my skin as my body gets drowned and swallowed. Claws made of shadows gnawed at me, pulling me deeper into the abyss. I screamed, by my voice was lost and inaudible in the hollow space. My stomach coiled as my head struck with nausea from the bizarre transportation, the black space around me consuming me. My eyes looked as if its also playing tricks at me as I kept seeing weird-shaped dark monsters trapped in some-kind of goo slime. Or maybe I was not imagining it and I was being transported from the Land of Shadows. A small hole opened from a distant, a circle of light flashing against my eyes. The bright light blinded my eyes, making it shut as I wait for the it to disappear in front of me. My body was thrown like a ball within the space, and a force pushed me from my back
Jerome's POV “He’ll do whatever it takes to tear us down, Jerome. He might go after the people important to us to make us give up our mission. Your mother might be put into danger.” An alarm rang in my head as I listen to Vana’s words. Mom could be put in danger. Chairman Zerondale will put her in danger if it means sabotaging us. He’s closer to us than to Vana, and he is Gramps’ closest friend. I clenched my fist, my nails digging into my skin. I can’t let Chairman Zerondale hurt mom. She suffered so much already. Chairman killed dad, and I won’t let him kill mom as well. The sirens that rang in my head grew louder and my instincts made my body move on its own. I dashed out of the room, bumping into Vana and Cara on my way out. I marched down to the main hall, ignoring Cara and Vana’s calls for me. “Jerome, Jerome, wait—” Vana called, shouting my name.
Jerome's POV Cheers and laughter resonated in the air as we gathered at the dining hall, having a large dinner with all the members of the guild. It doesn’t seem like anyone was bothered by the news about me, nor are they looking concerned that I have become a criminal. I clicked my tongue as I thought of it, an irritating feeling clawing at my chest as I picture Chairman Zerondale in my mind. Just the thought of him was enough to make my blood boil and seeing him in person fuels my rage to attack him. I gazed my eyes up from my plate, watching as the table where I was sitting at gets filled with chatter and singing. My irritation died down, only for a moment. A small smile crept up my lips, enjoying these moments that I know never lasts forever. I wanted to protect them, Golden Scorpion’s guild members. They’re my family. They’re like a family to me. I swore to myself that I’ll kee
Vana's POV I trailed my eyes as Jerome leaves the dining hall, exiting away into the dimly lit hallway. I stared at his back with worry, conflicted by his overreaction on many occasions now. He hasn’t been looking alright for a while now, and that concerns me. “Worried about Jerome?” Cara asked, scooting beside me after she noticed my distracted gaze. “Yeah, he’s… kind of out of it these days,” I mumbled. “How so?” “I asked him about it a couple of days ago and he said he was… afraid,” I answered, trying to figure out the meaning behind his words. “That boy… has a lot… in mind…” Jerome’s mother mumbled, speaking a few words at a time. I flinched as I didn’t realize that she was seated next to me. She was still on her wheelchair, and has a more relaxed complexion compared from earlier. I pursed my mouth with a nod, know kno
3rd POV After being informed of Chairman Zerondale’s decision, Gregory summoned Yuna and Professor Zander in his office, frantic to inform them of the problematic news. He knew the outcome of the mission from Professor Zander’s written report to him, but neither of the three of them knew that the Chairman would label Vana and Jerome as criminals. It was early in the morning, too early that the sun has yet to rose up. The Chairman had only informed Gregory last midnight but was unable to read his letter that was sent to him after he had fallen asleep. He clucked his tongue as he paced back and forth in his office, waiting for Yuna and Professor Zander to arrive. The doors burst open, slamming as the two arrived, marching inside with a frenzied expression. “You do not need to inform me, Gregory. I just read it in the newspaper,” Yuna said, striding across the room. She held a r
3rd POV The lingering summer heat glisten their skin with sweat and the moist autumn winds gush against their back, yet despite that, Gregory remained composed in front of Lady Ailima, walking side by side with her at the gardens of the royal palace after inviting her over. His heart raced that lasted only for a minute before it calmed, the Lady’s presence beginning to be a comforting presence next to him. He smiled at the thought, wishing that her time with her is longer than his busy hours inside of his office. “I’m glad you seem to be enjoying my company, Your Majesty,” Lady Ailima said in a firm ye soft voice, glancing at Gregory as she observes his expression. “Why wouldn’t I? The moment I chose you in the long list of candidates already proves that I wish to enjoy my time with you,” Gregory replied, darting an eye at her. “And I told you to call me by my name when we’re
Vana's POV“I do. I plan to return to Ashern after I graduate. I also plan to publicly leave the Shadows and remain its member in the dark. Then, I’ll open my own detective agency—”“You’re opening your own agency!” Jerome exclaimed, slamming his hands on the table, which startled me. “Seriously?”“Y-yes?” I stammered, bewildered. “Something wrong with it?”“Not really, but you’re going to do that alone?” Jerome scowled.“No, why do you think I’m telling it to you?”“It’s not what I think, is it?”“More or less. It’s what I need your opinion—or your answer, in this case. I can’t do it alone, and that’s a fact. That’s why, if you would like, I would like to have a partnersh
Vana's POVI stared in front of Green Serpent’s guildhall as I arrive at their doorsteps, contemplating myself. I gulped, pursing my lips as I hesitate to take a step forward. Maybe it’s a wrong idea to be here. The last time I stepped foot in this place was when I left the guild. Since then, I never tried or dared to return or join any other guild. I have other plans for the future. None of them includes joining another guild, even if it is Golden Scorpion.“Vana, I thought you wouldn’t arrive,” a voice called, and I turned to face who it was. Cara plastered a smile on her face as she came up to me, her hair flailing on her bare shoulders.“Good afternoon, Cara,” I greeted with a thin line on my face.“Why haven’t you entered?” she wondered.“Well…” I hesitated, gla
Vana's POV9 months laterI got off the train with my suitcase rolling on the ground, lifting my hands up in the air as the sun beamed above me. It’s been six months since the last time I was in Auregon. It’s been nine months since the Case of the Serpent and Scorpion came to an end. Many things happened in the past nine months. Many to be even count in my hands. I don’t even know where to start. After Chairman Zerondale’s arrest, he was jailed in the palace dungeons and was investigated for nearly a whole month by the royal investigators. He was put in trial the following month after the investigation, with all the charges we filed to him. It took almost two months for all his crimes to be verdicted, and in the end, he was sentenced to death.Lifetime of servitude or liftetime in prison wasn’t enough of a verdict for all
Vana's POV“You’re right. I made a mistake… a lot more than I could have ever imagined,” Master Sergis agreed, muttering.I flinched, my head tilting down at Master Sergis’ direction. His hands crumpled the letter, staring at it with his teeth gritting. A regretful gaze flickered in his eyes, raising it up at the ice wall’s direction.“From the beginning, I should have known something is going on when Zerondale enticed me against Ashemre. I should have… noticed that he fabricated it all,” he admitted, his voice full of sorrow and regret.“I knew Ashmere wasn’t that kind of person, and my wife would never betray me like that,” he mentioned, pertaining to the conversation between Ms. Madison and Master Ashmere that led to a cheating misunderstanding.“I should have… listened to t
Vana's POV“And I have the evidence to prove it,” I boasted.Heads turned and raised up at me as I yell, jaws dropped and irritated looks carved out of their faces. I stood in front of them with my back straight, breath hitching as my actions sink into my head. What in the magic did I just do?“Now you’ve done it…” Jerome mumbled with a sigh next to me.Not only did I used my magic arbitrarily and unexpectedly, but I also revealed the journal right from the start without any prior explanation. It’s already a mess, and I think I only made things messier.“How are the two of you even here? Aren’t you supposed to be executed?” Master Sergis asked in a shout. “Wha—how—” That is exactly the reason why things got complicated. It was surprising
Vana's POV“Case closed…” I mumbled with an unsettling feeling in my chest.“Vana, are you okay?” Jerome asked as he ran towards me in concern.I blinked, flustered as Jerome took my hand as soon as he knelt next to me. My eyes widened, but I remained composed as I pick myself up. “I’m… fine. I just… felt underwhelmed by everything,” I said, standing up from my spot.A soft smile curled up my lips as I assure him. He held my hand gently and we walked down from the stage. The chaos was all over the place, but my gaze fixated on Jerome as we head down the stage together.I followed him from behind, my eyes going back and forth between his back and his bleeding hands that held mine. I paused on my step, unable to stop the urge to speak.“Are you satisfied? About your revenge?&r
Vana's POV“Do you see it now? We lured you in a trap, Chairman Zerondale. Do you think I would be stupid enough not to realize that you were planning to assassinate the king?” I stated, a smirk plastered on my face.Chairman Zerondale stepped back, horror and fury stirring in his eyes. His jaw clenched, gritting his teeth with his eyes glaring at me. The Shadows surrounded him at the back center of the platform, our weapons drawn.“You can’t run away from your crimes forever, Chairman Zerondae. It’s time for you to face it,” Jerome said, taking a step forward.A sharp curve cured on Chairman Zerondale’s lips, a hysteric laugh leaving his mouth. He laughed out loud, a grim atmosphere emitting out in the air. He raised his eyes at us, a grim smile plastered on his face.“You can arrest me all you want, but I will alw
Vana's POV“Can you do it?” I asked Gregory as I roam inside his room.Gregory, Jerome, and I gathered inside his chambers to cast the illusion spell as part of our trap against Chairman Zerondale. Thanks to the information Professor Zander provided from the Magic Council Tower, and with a bit of calculation, inferencing, and assumptions, we narrowed down the day the Chairman would assassinate the king.“Shall we start then?” Gregory implored, standing at the center of his chambers. He glanced at me, gesturing for me to move out of the room as he prepares himself to cast the spell. Jerome observed the scene from outside of the room, leaning against the doorframe with his injured body covered with gauze. It hasn’t been a week since we were treated, and his bruises aren’t healed with magic either.I moved ove
3rd POVThe halls of Jasper Academy remained peaceful as the new academic year began. It won’t be long for Professor Zander to be asked to return to the academy, having to start teaching his new students. Unfortunately, he’s still in the middle of a mission. He made it an excuse that he’ll be having orientations with his new class, hiding his main objective of heading to the Magic Council Tower. Gregory already made arrangements with Angela about the Special Unit helping them, requesting Angela’s mother, Chairwoman Iris, to access the tower.Professor Zander lurked around the hallways near the Magic Council Tower, observing the people entering in and out of the tower. In the few minutes of his observation, only Chairwoman Iris entered the tower, with none of her assistants following her inside. It was the signal he’d been waiting for; one that Angela and Gregory menti
