Pathetic

In what seemed to be an extremely expensive apartment, a young girl sat on the bed. Her room was filled with luxurious decorations, her wardrobe was packed with costly clothes, designers shoes sat on the shoe racks, and her bed was queen sized.

Ayleen snarled in anger when the 3rd symbol didn't light up and the magic circle dissolved. Her attractive face twisted into a grimace. She had lost track of how many times she had failed.

Today was the last day for the assignment, and she was still stuck at the 3rd symbol. The assignment was simply too hard. It was so hard that it was nearly impossible to complete.

She looked at the clock in her bedroom. 9:47 am. There was still some time before Mr. Luis class commenced. Bella had left some hours ago to practice her spear wielding. She had awakened as a lancer. She seemed happy with her class, as she had not stopped practicing the spear since she got one.

Ayleen shook her head before getting up from the bed. She undressed herself and walked into the bathroom naked. She washed herself thoroughly, getting rid of the sweat that had accumulated on her body.

After exiting the bathroom she dried her blonde hair and wiped herself dry before putting on her uniform.

She decided that the assignment was too hard to complete on her own. She was going to attend the class despite not completing the assignment. She had made up her mind to ask Mr. Luis for tips regarding the task.

She ate breakfast, which she ordered a few minutes ago, before leaving the empty apartment.

On the way to class she garnered attention from people as usual, but paid them no mind. She also noticed some of her fellow mages were going in the direction of the class. It seemed that not only she was unable to complete the task.

From the discussions she heard, most of them were yet to light up the first symbol. They had only managed to draw the magic circle, and were still miles away from casting a spell.

It seemed that she was better than them, as she was already on the 3rd symbol. She finally reached the venue for the class.

When she entered the class, she saw that more than half of the class was already present. Mr. Luis had yet to arrive so the class was a bit noisy.

She walked assertively to her spot and sat down. She frowned when she saw that her silver haired seat partner had yet to arrive.

Immediately the clock struck 12 noon the door opened and Mr. Luis walked in. Everyone fell silent as soon as he entered the class.

He was dressed in the same spotless white suit, bow tie and a monocle on his left eye. He arched an eyebrow when he saw the number of students in the hall.

"Has everyone who is present here completed my assignment?" Mr. Luis asked in a domineering tone.

Nobody answered.

"So no one here has completed my assignment?" He asked again.

There was still no response. The hall was so silent that one could hear a pin drop.

"Why are you all here then?" Mr. Luis asked, his expression morphing into one of anger.

"Didn't I tell you that you are restricted from setting foot into this class until you have completed my assignment? And that you should stay at home and meditate till you complete it?"

This time someone stood up to answer his question. It was a boy with black hair and brown eyes. He was tall for his age and his uniform couldn't hide the growing muscles underneath them. He looked like the typical class representative of a class.

"Good afternoon Mr. Luis." He started. "My name is Frank Curay. I'm ranked 47th among the 1st years and I'm the class representative of this class."

Everyone turned to look at him in shock. What audacity! This was just their second class of the semester, so when did we make you the class representative?! We didn't even know you prior to this class! Rank 47? You aren't even in the top 10!

The self acclaimed class representative ignored the stares directed at him and was about to continue speaking before Mr. Luis cut him short.

"So? What does your name and rank has to do with the question I asked?" Mr. Luis said in a dangerous tone.

"Do I look like a pushover to you? Or do you think I'm here to play the introduction game with you?"

Mr. Luis adjusted his monocle before speaking.

"If you don't give me satisfactory answers in the next 10 seconds I'll make you regret setting your feet into this class." Mr. Luis said as his eyes glinted treacherously.

Frank gulped and broke out in a cold sweat. His mind started spinning and he hoped that his next words would not be his doom.

"Sir, the assignment was too hard for us to complete, so we all decided to attend this class in order to ask for some pointers."

"Oh?" Mr. Luis said, his eyes glinting dangerously.

"You said you are ranked 47th among the 1st years right?" Mr. Luis asked in a calm tone.

"Yes sir." Frank nodded quickly, a bit of pride evident in his voice.

"Who's the highest ranked among everyone present here?"

Everyone glanced at each other. They didn't know who the highest ranked was as it was just a few days since they've been together. The highest ranked at the moment seemed to be the self acclaimed class representative.

As everyone was still contemplating who the highest ranked in the class was, a very attractive blonde haired girl stood up. Her stunning figure caused the boys present to drool. When she spoke, hearts could basically be seen in their eyes.

"Ayleen de Etienne, Rank 42 sir." Ayleen said.

Mr. Luis looked at her with a bit of surprise in his eyes. As a noble, a high noble at that, he was naturally knowledgeable about the powerful Etienne family. He nodded, then looked at the students present.

"What a bunch of fools."

Everyone fell silent at his words, still trying to confirm what they just heard. Mr. Luis noticed the expression of confusion present on their faces and smirked.

"Would you like me to repeat myself?" He adjusted his monocle and spoke in a louder voice.

"I said you all are a bunch of fools."

Everyone subconsciously flinched when he repeated his words. They didn't expect such words to come out from what seemed to be a gentleman.

"Pathetic. You are all pathetic. Is there anything you try to do on your own? Why are you always looking for whom to depend on? I believe you were all told before you applied here that we at Aegis Imperial High School have no need for dregs!"

"Did you think that it was a joke? What is this behavior? Rank 47? Rank 42? You really think a single number is what will save your lives against monsters and beasts? Wake up! This isn't your fucking houses where you live like kings or queens! This is Aegis Imperial High School! Get that through your thick skull!" Mr. Luis hollered.

Everyone present bowed their heads, some in anger and some in shame. They felt he was too excessive with his words, but deep down they knew he was right.

They had subconsciously attended his class despite not completing his assignment because they wanted some pointers, but this wasn't their homes. It was Aegis Imperial High School, where they were supposed to overcome challenges on their own.

They hadn't really racked their brains and tried their best before running over to him for pointers. It was why Mr. Luis blew his top at them.

As they were still reflecting on his words the door suddenly swung open and a person entered the classroom.

It was a young boy who was tall for his age. He had silver hair and was dressed in the school uniform. He had a healthy unblemished brown skin color and was extremely handsome. His ears had a pair of black earrings on them, which dangled as he walked.

Mr. Luis looked unimpressed by the newcomer's confident demeanor and asked in a chilly tone.

"And you are?"

Lukas took a fleeting look around the room and found out that the atmosphere was a bit heavy. The class was mostly filled so he knew he had been late.

It wasn't his fault though, as he woke up extremely late after falling asleep. It seemed that a lot of people had completed the task so he was glad that he wasn't left behind.

"Are you deaf young man? Who do you think you are waltzing into my class? Answer me now before you regret it!" Mr. Luis shouted, seething with rage.

Lukas quickly answered Mr. Luis, not wanting to be punished or reproached again.

"I'm sorry sir. My name is Lukas Kerr. I'm a member of this class sir."

Mr. Luis remained silent. Lukas Kerr. He was sure he had heard the name before. Ah, the young boy who got perfect scores in theory for the first time in 50 years and got an S-ranked result in the awakening test. So he's the one. Mr. Luis studied the boy hailed as a prodigy in the school.

He was disappointed. It seemed like he had come here to ask for pointers too.

"So? Are you here to ask for pointers too?" Mr. Luis asked, already confident that it was the reason the boy was here.

Lukas looked at Mr. Luis with a puzzled expression.

"Pointers?" Lukas asked, confusion evident in his voice.

Mr. Luis narrowed his eyes at Lukas. Lukas immediately felt chills run down his spine at the dangerous gaze.

"Why are you here then?" Mr. Luis asked.

"You said we should come today if we managed to complete the assignment. That's why I'm here sir." Lukas replied, suddenly no longer feeling as confident as before.

"Pardon?" Mr. Luis said, this time wearing a bewildered expression on his face as if he couldn't believe his ears.

Lukas repeated his words regardless of the expression on Mr. Luis' face. His voice wasn't loud but everyone in the class could hear him clearly.

"I've completed the assignment you gave us, sir."
