Tenma snapped his eyes open. He blinked few more times and remembered he was home.
He had no nightmare last night. And all is well.
The sun has risen, and its warm light has shone through his balcony. Despite that, he felt a slight chill. He realized it's because he isn't wearing any clothes, the lower part of his body covered by only a blanket. He also noticed something else lying on the bed with him.
Noa was sleeping beside him, her body covered by the same blanket that concealed his. Her bare chest was concealed by her long crimson hair, now untied. There was something serene and calming in her contented expression. Something that also brings a smile to his face.
He took his time looking at her sleeping face. She was smiling about something even in her sleep, he doesn't know what, but it must be good to warrant such an expression. Not wanting to disturb whatever good dream she's having, he slowly and carefully try to get off the bed.
As Tenma quietly stood up from the bed and put his pants back on, he tip-toed towards the balcony to stretch and bask in the warmth of the sun. He felt the cool breeze brushing past him, rustling his dark hair as he took a deep breath of the fresh morning air. That feels good.
He subconsciously reached to his back, where a large, criss cross scar is at. He turned around and let it be caressed by the morning wind too. After spending some time sunbathing, he came back inside and sat on the side of the bed. He looked at his lover affectionately.
He couldn't help but feel grateful for this peaceful moment with Noa. They had been through so much together, and it was times like this that he cherished the most. Tenma wanted to take a moment to appreciate everything they had and just enjoy the stillness of the morning.
As he collected the rest of his clothes from the floor and put them back on as well, his mind started a recollection of what happened last night…
-----
The green-haired guy fell to the ground with a loud thud.
"Yup, tonight's job done. I did it."
He neutralized him with well-placed sword slashes. Seven slashes to different parts of his body. Obviously he did not kill him, his wounds are just deep enough to put him out of commission and hopefully he will reflect for his actions next time. And after the small fight's over…
"Great show, kid!"
"You sure showed that guy!"
"I bet some money on you winning! Thanks dude!"
They cheered on him. The patrons of that pub apparently found his little display amusing enough to make it seem like an actual entertainment show. And they even made a bet on who would win that battle. He doesn't know if that's legal or not, but whatever. At least they have something to anticipate if they come to that establishment again. And whatever makes Mr. Blackcloud richer would surely spill over to him as well. He does need more money.
And Mr. Blackcloud even slipped some extra in his payment for that night.
"Mr. Blackcloud, is this alright? I broke your window."
"That person broke the window… when you threw him out. So obviously that's not your fault." Mr. Blackcloud says in playful tone. "It's alright. He would've broken much more if you didn't stop him. I can ask my friend to repair that window, easy. Thank you for your help, Mr. Kazuki."
Well, who was he to refuse extra money? He didn't expect it, but he will gladly accept it.
"It's no problem, Mr. Blackcloud, I'm glad to help."
And then, as if on cue, a Guardian arrived. Guardian is one of the nine available career choices for those who has graduated from any Academy. One that people considered a noble job, too. A Guardian's job is to defend the kingdom city from both outside and inside threats.
Apparently Mr. Blackcloud called for help when that green-haired guy started making trouble, just in case the problem escalated. And the officer made it to the scene a bit late. He was a bald fair-skinned man who's wearing a casual clothes more fitting for a thug than a security officer.
"Well damn! This sure didn't look like a big deal if some kid from Agni Veritas can handle it by himself." the bald officer said. "I don't know why I'm even needed here."
"Now now, Mr. Stonehead." Mr. Blackcloud chuckled. "This 'some kid' you mentioned, I believe he's ranked quite high in Combat Classes. Rank 10th, yes?"
"7th actually .I've ranked up a bit since last time I mentioned it." Tenma said, trying not to boast too much.
"Whoa, for real? That's amazing, kid." the bald man looks impressed. "And who's this girl?"
He directed that to Noa, who positioned herself beside Tenma before he could even notice.
"I'm Noa from Vermillion Family. 6th Rank in Combat Class, too, naturally. Pleased to make your acquaintance." As opposed to him, Noa carries herself with pride and grace befitting of a noblewoman. She even bothered with a curtsy.
"Vermillion and red hair… ah, that makes sense." Mr. Stonehead nodded, before turning to Tenma again. "Well kid, you sure have a great taste in woman."
"What." Tenma said flatly, didn't expect a change in subject.
"She's your girlfriend, right?" He said. "For a kid, you sure are a cultured man. Scoring with a chick like that, you must be a real player!"
"I don't think so…" Tenma shoots him a blank look.
"Come on kid, this is a compliment! She's a nice catch!"
"I'd appreciate it more if you don't talk like she's not here, Sir." Tenma said coldly, frowning.
Noa simply smiled at that. She appreciates that. He always thinks of himself an insensitive man, but when it comes to matters like this, he was surprisingly considerate.
Realizing his mistake, the bald man puts up his hands like he was surrendering to an enemy.
"Ah, I apologize, kid. Where are my manners, my brother's gonna kill me if he finds out. I got too worked up these days... You too, Miss. Sorry for that, no offense."
"None taken." Noa offered another curtsy. "Come on, Tenma. Don't be rude."
"Okay, I'm sorry." Nodded, Tenma lightening up his mood a bit.
"Now, let's move on to another topic… aren't you kids from Agni Veritas going on a Field Exam tomorrow?" the bald man asked. "What are you guys doing this late, instead of preparing?"
"I'm working here as Mr. Blackcloud's security." Tenma said matter-of-factly. "And I don't see why having a Field Exam should interfere with my work."
"Heh, so you're a hardworking type, eh. And you, Miss?"
"I'm just hanging out with him." Noa simply said, with a mischievous smile. "He promised me to play… and play we will."
Noa briefly looked at Tenma, before curling her arm around his. Seeing this, the bald man chuckled, a mix of amusement and exasperation in his voice.
"You lucky bastard." He said to Tenma, who blinked in confusion. "I'll leave it at that… but you better go home soon, both of you. This is rather late, and you should get some rest for that exam tomorrow yeah? Run along, you two. I'll handle the troublemaker, don't worry about it."
"Good night, Mr. Kazuki, Miss Vermillion." Mr. Blackcloud waved his hand. "Good luck on your Field Exam tomorrow."
With a nod, Tenma and Noa left the place without any more delay. They didn't say anything while walking to their destination. It's not an awkward silence where you simply don't know what to say to the other person, but it's a rather comfortable silence. Holding hands and leaning against each other. The cold of the night simply forgotten in that warmth.
Both of them are normally rather calm and composed, but in a situation like this, they feel like they're getting nervous the longer they keep this up. Their heart beating faster, their breath slightly ragged, and their face flushing red. They are full of anticipation of what would happen.
After some walking, they finally arrived at home. His home. He noticed that it's already dark inside. So is the house next door. People must've been asleep now. He made sure not to make too much noise as he reached for the front door. Locked. No matter. He brought the spare key.
Tenma silently inserted the key into the lock and turned it with a soft click. They both slipped inside, trying to be as quiet as possible. The darkness inside the house was almost suffocating, but Tenma quickly found the light switch and flipped it on. The sudden brightness made them both squint briefly, but their eyes quickly adjusted.
As they took off their shoes, they heard a faint sound coming from upstairs. Tenma motioned for Noa to follow him, and they slowly crept up the stairs. The sound became louder as they approached the second floor, and Tenma's heart began to race. What could be making that noise?
They reached the top of the stairs and saw a shadowy figure moving in the darkness. Tenma's first instinct was to attack, but he quickly realized that it was just his sister, Reina, sitting on a chair near his room. "What are you doing up so late, Reina?" Tenma asked, his relief palpable.
Reina has neck-length black hair with orange tips. that falls in soft waves around her face. She has bright green eyes that stand out against her fair skin, and she's wearing a comfortable-looking pair of white pajamas. Despite the late hour, she seems alert, and her posture attentive.
She was also a student at Agni Veritas Academy, First Year, so it's natural that she has some competency regarding combat and anything related to self-defense.
"Oh, I just… couldn't sleep," Reina said with a yawn, rubbing her eyes. "And I was hoping to surprise Sabrina-neechan when she comes to visit. But, lo and behold, it's my big bro and his girlfriend sneaking in past curfew instead. Imagine my surprise when you two showed up..."
She gave a small smirk and raised an eyebrow at the two of them.
Tenma felt his face flush red and would have let out a slightly indignant response, but Noa just smiled and said, "It's nice to see you, Reina. Sorry, we didn't mean to wake you up."
Reina stood up from the chair and stretched her arms above her head. "No worries, Noa-san. I'm just glad everything's alright. It's been a long day, so I'm going to head back to bed now. Don't stay up too late, you two."
She gave them a small wave and disappeared into her room on the other end of the floor, leaving Tenma and Noa alone in the hallway.
Tenma breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Noa. "I'm sorry about that. I didn't expect her to be up so late."
Noa just shrugged and squeezed his hand. "It's okay. At least it was her and not someone else who caught us."
"But who else would--"
"Nevermind that."
She leaned in and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before leading him to his room. Tenma gulped. This isn't their first time, but Tenma still felt a bit nervous about this. In fact, he doesn't think he would ever get used to this...
As they entered Tenma's room, Noa could sense his nervousness and took his hand in hers, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Don't worry, Tenma. We'll be quiet and careful."
Tenma nodded, his heart beating faster with excitement and anticipation. He closed the door behind them and turned on a small lamp on his desk, casting a warm, soft glow around the room. Noa sat on the edge of his bed and patted the space next to her, inviting him to join her.
He sat down and put his arm around her shoulder, pulling her closer. In response, she put her hand on his thigh and caress it gently in such a way he felt a pleasant chill go down his spine.
As he leaned his face to hers, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer, pressing her lips against his in a gentle kiss. They both felt their bodies relax into the embrace, the tension of the day melting away. Their kisses deepened, their hands roaming each other's bodies, exploring and rediscovering each other in the darkness.
Their bodies intertwined, lost in the moment, as their passion grew stronger. Noa moaned softly, and Tenma couldn't help but feel a surge of desire. He trailed kisses down her neck, eliciting shivers down her spine.
Noa tugged at his shirt, wanting to feel his bare skin against hers. Tenma pulled away for a moment to remove his shirt before returning to her, his warm skin pressing against hers. They continued to kiss, their hands now roaming more feverishly over each other's bodies.
As the intensity grew, they knew they had to be careful not to make too much noise. They kept their movements slow and deliberate, savoring every touch and kiss… although they slowly but surely threw discretion out of the window. They're quite enjoying their time together.
They're sweating bullets. Noa's hair has come undone from its tie, sending a shower of crimson strands falling around her shoulders. She was drooling and tears were falling from her eyes. Tenma started grunting like a bull while Noa was letting out ecstatic moans, which only got higher the longer they went at it.
It takes quite a while until finally, as they reached the peak of their passion, they held each other tightly, lost in the moment. Her legs wrapped around his waist. Afterward, they lay entwined in each other's arms, breathing heavily and basking in the afterglow.
Noa looked up at Tenma and smiled, her eyes filled with affection.
"I love you," she whispered.
Tenma's heart swelled with emotion, and he leaned in to kiss her deeply.
"I love you too," he murmured against her lips.
They lay together in silence for a while longer, simply enjoying each other's presence. They lost themselves in each other's arms, savoring every moment of intimacy and connection. Eventually, they drifted off to sleep, their bodies still entwined in each other's embrace.
He smiled as he remembered everything that happened last night. And everything that happened last night were like blurred memories. He could remember some notable details, like him flipping her over so he can be on top and---nope, nevermind that. The memories start coming back faster than he thought, and he'd already reminisced too much this morning. He would rather stop lollygagging and start being productive now. He begins to collect Noa's clothes from all over the room. As Tenma gathered her clothes, he couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment and happiness wash over him. It has been a long time since they were together, and he was very grateful to have Noa in his life. Once he had collected all of her clothes, he folded them neatly and placed them on the chair near the bed, so Noa can see it when she wakes up. Then he cleaned up the room for a bit. It simply won't do to have it all messy from their activities last night. Reina will have a fit if she
They decided to jog around as they raced their way to the school. Not that they were late, but simply as a form of warming up for today's activities. It's also fun to compete in something trivial like this sometimes.Reina leads in the front, awfully chipper and energetic, while Sabrina puts up a measured pace in the middle, occassionally eyeing Tenma and Noa who were in the rear.Tenma was purposefully slowing down because Noa suddenly had a limp. He knew why she had that, and felt rather guilty. Must be because what they did last night. He quietly decided to make it up by his actions."Are you okay?" He asked."It's okay, don't worry about me." She assured."No can't do." Tenma shook his head. "I'll carry you."He casually and gently lifted her off her feet, putting her in his arms. One arm under her legs and the other supporting her back. Noa yelped in surprise, but she had no time for further react since Tenma started to run faster than
Shortly after...They made their way to the second floor too, although they weren't trying to hurry at all. They entered the Elevator in a pleasant silence, just the two of them. As they arrived at the second floor, they can see the other students wandering and passing by each other. Some are fussing over something that they didn't bother listening to, but they can take a good guess.Of course, the Field Exam. The third and second years will have to undergo a mission decided by the school staff outside the school itself, with the supervision of teachers or graduates. The first years will have it a bit easier, their exam will be held inside the school environment. On the way to their own class, they passed over a set of statues made of emerald. They are life-sized, so they can almost be mistaken as actual people sometimes. Those statues are displayed on a circular room that serves as a hub that connects to all the pathway to the classes.Three statues. One
-Back at Aetzer-A tall woman with long blonde hair styled entirely in large drills walked out of the Elevator and into a room. Her blue eyes, as blue as her formal uniform, swept around the room briefly. It doesn't look luxurious at all, with only exception of the silver wares and beautifully framed pictures on the tables, pictures of students long since graduated. And sitting behind a desk was the Headmaster of Agni Veritas Academy, Cort Van Hellsing. He is tall and has shoulder-length ashen black hair, with bright amber eyes and a cheerful smile. He has a light complexion and sharp facial features. He is dressed in formal attire of a headmaster, all black except the white shirt beneath his suit. He wears a circular glasses."Good afternoon, Angelica." He addressed the woman. "I take it you're here to report?"The office of Headmaster was situated at the highest floor of Agni Veritas, also known as Firewatch Tower. As the highest point at Agni Veritas Academy as well as in Aetzer, a
Meanwhile...A silver sword whistles as it cuts through the air and the knife-like head of a monstrous lizard, killing it instantly. Another one of its kin roared and pounced towards the wielder of the sword, but then its voice was abruptly cut off as it found the sword going through its throat. Its body tensed for a second before going completely limp."Small fry…" Iceheart said as he pulled the sword out. "This barely even counts as warm up."He turned around swiftly as more of the red drakes emerged from the shadows of the forest. Iceheart faced the incoming swarm of red drakes with a dark glint in his eyes. This is his duty and he will see to it that it will be done perfectly, even if he has to do it alone. He opts to meet the enemies head-on with sword in hand. The drakes came at him from all sides, their razor-sharp teeth and claws glinting in the sunlight. But Iceheart moved with an unnatural grace and speed, weaving in and out of t
Meanwhile, on the other side of Discordia, on the land of Naifel…A five-man band walking on the cold tundra where as far as they can see, almost everything is covered by snow. There are some mosses, sedges, and lichens, along with the rare few trees in between. It was a dark and cold place that anyone with common sense would try to avoid.Alas, those people came here not because they want to, but because it was their duty. Those five are the team dispatched from Agni Veritas to accomplish a mission in this region as their Field Exam. And they went into the cold lands with only some extra on their black uniforms. They walk together in a straight line, making a simple formation. It just so happens that they knew each other for quite a long time, so there's no awkwardness between them. One leading in the front is the leader of the team, a chestnut-brown haired young man with gold trimmed green mantle. Following him, a young woman with blue waist-long hair that is partially tied into a l
Back to the forests in Sancredo region…The sky was dark. Black clouds have gathered around the forest, looming above them. Soft rustling of leaves as a gentle breeze picked up, causing the branches of the trees to sway. Soon after, the sky began to darken as more thick clouds rolled in, blocking out the sun.Tenma stands on the precipice of a cliff, overlooking what seems to be a cavern down near a clearing below. His hand on his sword, never letting his guard down despite everything looking perfectly safe. For now, at least. Who knows when would the situation get nasty and chaotic? He frowns, wondering how many of those creatures are they going to face. For him, it's not a matter of clearing them out, but rather how he should handle his team to accomplish this task without any problems. He then silently reassessed his teammates' capabilities.Noa typically uses magic, but is no slouch in close combat herself, with stellar swordsmanship a
"... so, that concludes the strategy. If there's no question…"Tenma said with a rather dramatic flourish of his hands, having explained the strategy to his teammates. They were still under the half-finished ice dome that Iceheart made, while the rain is still pouring hard outside their temporary shelter. And they have different reactions to hearing what he had to say.Noa simply folded her arms and smiled supportively, fully on board with his strategy. Sabrina gave him an approving nod, showing no objection to whatever he just said. Iceheart, for his part, looked rather incredulous, like he was expecting something disappointing but it turns out better than he thought. And then there's Damon who just stood there looking totally dumbfounded."Sorry dude, can you run that by me again?" He asked."Are you serious?" Iceheart immediately turned to him. "He explained it perfectly in a way that even a fool would understand. Unless you weren't listening AT ALL…"No one noticed, but Noa gives
Tenma looked at Sabrina who’s walking slightly ahead of him, putting his arms behind his head and sighed wearily. He did volunteer to accompany her just for today, and he does want to make Sabrina forget about her work even for a bit… but maybe asking her what they’ll be doing in her day off was a mistake. He should have taken more initiative and planned ahead…Because Sabrina wants them to go register their Mission License and try out an official mission. Which means, it’s a real job, and runs counter to what his intention for today was. He really wants Sabrina to take her mind off her work, not taking more job. Mind, if it was any other day, he would take the job without any complaint. But today is not supposed to be work day…… fine. I’ll make this work. I’ll make today fun somehow!Tenma and Sabrina stopped in front of a huge wooden door that is furnished by a large fire-shaped black emblem. Only one building holds such emblem, which is the building of…The Swarthy Order, the offic
That afternoon... Somewhere in Aetzer, Tenma walked back and forth on an observation deck. It was a place with quite a breathtaking view. He could see almost all of the City Kingdom at a glance. He decided to stop walking soon after, facing the railing and the skyscrapers across him. He breathes in and spreads his arms, feeling the sunlight and wind breeze caressing his body gently. The sun is already up high in the sky but it doesn’t feel that hot. It’s only slightly windy too, feels like this is a perfect weather for hanging out with friends outdoors. However… He doesn’t feel like hanging around with too many crowds today. He silently observed the city that’s bustling with activities below him, before looking back to the horizon far away. Enjoying the scenery from the place he’s standing. The observatory deck, it was not an easy place to find… in fact, someone found this place first and shared it with him. Said person are among the few people that he truly values, so this place
Agni Veritas Academy is a school running on meritocracy. The highest authority a student can wield here depends on their capability. The holding of power is selected on the basis of their ability. That means the smarter one is, the stronger one is, the higher grade one is, those qualities will be what defines one’s worth in this school. That is where the Class Ranking comes in, a system that was invented by a previous Headmaster few generations before Cort Van Hellsing. A student will be admitted into the Class Rankings when they reached their second year in the school, after their value and merits is assessed. The student’s attendance, their academic scores, their combat performance, those qualities will be calculated into a certain number that will make their final grade… and it does not only serve as a sign of one’s competence. It gives them certain rights that the first year students do not have. When someone reaches the realm of upper-ranked students, they will be given small a
Mission License. It was a precious priviledge only granted to students who passed the Field Exam or fulfilled certain conditions. With Mission License, students can take actual missions like the ones who have official graduated from school. They are granted this right because they have proven themselves capable by passing the Field Exam, those are designed specifically like real missions. Of course, the Mission License isn't absolute pass to take part in every mission available. There are missions that required certain conditions that has to be fulfilled before one can even consider to take these missions. These matters are handled carefully within The Swarthy Order, the official organization that records and takes notes of the mission taken… whether it's completed, or failed. The purpose of the Mission License itself was to give the students experience of working under the Order… to give them the taste and benefit of working, to teach them the sense of satisfaction, to find meaning
In the Infirmary of Agni Veritas Academy, one young man sits quietly on a bed, having just woken up from a long night's sleep. A young man with blue undercut hair and a slim yet athletic body. It didn't help that his hospital gown really doesn't hide his toned figure. He figures that since some medical staff members and students that passed by his bed stole some glances at him, he more than fulfills the criteria of a body people would kill to have. He'd even heard some appreciative whispers directed to his way. He couldn't help but to grin.Of course, he didn't cultivate his body this way for showing off to people. He's not that vain, obviously. However, he has to admit he still felt quite the ego boost from that.A little confidence won't hurt anyone. Especially in this world where you need to be confident, not just strong, to make a real difference. At least that's what his father told him. A strong but meek person won't change anything since they are too afra
Everyone was silent in that Lecture Hall, captivated by the footage that has started playing from the projector.A vaguely humanoid entity that looks like its entire being was comprised of pitch-black steel that somehow doesn't reflect the sunlight walked forth into the battlefield, but its steps weightless as a feather. No eyes. No nose. No mouth. Nothing. On its face, there was simply nothing but black. In its hand it was grasping some sort of sword. And by 'some sort of sword', it means it was only shaped like a sword… but it wasn't really a sword, because it was made of black and red energy, instead of any sort of metal. The blade and the hilt are entirely comprised by that dark energy. The entity walked into the battlefield as another figure charged at it. The figure was a pasty white humanoid with massive black bat wings, with their eyes entirely crimson like it was filled by blood. Their nails are crooked claws, which seen as the figure raised its hand and chanted. It was Magi
They are inside the school now, walking out the Elevator and onto the Second Floor, where all the classrooms are. Normally they would part ways now since they're in different class, but since today is Joint Class, they will have a class together now. There's little to no reason to separate…Tenma kept his enthusiastic spirits from before, eager and ready to receive the lesson that he had read ahead. Meanwhile Sabrina walked beside him, her overall mood has dramatically shifted from sulking to a rather cheerful one. That's totally have nothing to do with the prospect of having some quality time with the black-haired young man today, without any interruptions. But before that can happen, they have a school schedule to get through first. Sabrina smoothed her expression, trying to hide her eagerness from everyone they passed. She was supposed to be a stern and proper member of Student Council, so at least she has to keep herself in check.Tenma however, looked as neutral as ever. Whether
Sabrina sighed as she and Tenma walked casually together towards their school, Agni Veritas Academy. It was still raining, although not as hard as before. They shared a black umbrella together, their shoulders lightly touching. She silently recalled what happened earlier in the morning. They had breakfast together, just the two of them, so they did it on her house since no one else was there.Reina was staying over at Tachie’s dormitory, just as Tenma said. Noa was nowhere in sight, but Tenma looks unconcerned about it so that means nothing bad happened. She didn't ask what happened, but it was still a rare occasion that only happened once in a blue moon. It was a quiet morning that she would always cherish. It really was quiet… but it's not out of awkwardness. Both of them weren't the type that likes to talk too much anyway.“I guess I’ll cook something for our breakfast...” She said.“Nah, let me handle that.” Tenma interrupted. “You just sit there and wait.”“But it’s my home…”“Jus
Sometime in the past…It was raining. The skies were dark. In an open field where there was nothing but water droplets from the rainfall, two bodies lay motionless. One was a brown-haired woman, eyes closed as if in peace, there was no breathing from her. Next to her, there was a little girl who's crying and ignoring everything else. The other one, a black haired man, was bleeding profusely, his breathing ragged. Next to him, there was a little boy, who's trying his best to stay strong for the little girl."Mister, my mom and dad will come soon. They will help… they can do anything!" He said with shaky voice. "Please, just hold on…"He tried feebly to stop the man's bleeding with his hands, but it was no use. The bleeding did not stop, and the man has lost too much blood…"No… don't worry too much, young man. It's too late for me." the man softly spoke. He was fading quickly. "It's okay. Tell Kaito and Frieda you did your best…""Y-you know my parents…? How did you…""We're old frien
