002. The Party

Seven years ago, when Leon was 18 years old, he was expelled by his family. They made rules for Leon so that he could win back his rights as the family heir if he passed the trial. Of course, the trial was not easy for Leon. He who was born into a rich family must experience a life full of struggles and far from luxury.

"You can't come back to this family if you can't live independently!" said William Jensen—Leon’s father, whom Leon always remembered.

Leon had no choice but to struggle hard. With his intelligence, Leon managed to establish a company that grew rapidly until it became one of the top 10 companies in the city when he was in college.

However, according to the rules of his family, the profit earned from the company Leon founded would be fully given to the family. Leon only received an allowance of hundreds of dollars a month.

At the hardest moment in Leon's life, he met Claire Weber. A beautiful and cheerful girl who accepted him as he was. Not long after that, they fell in love with each other.

"Leon, I love you with all of my heart. I promise I'll always be on your side, no matter what!" Claire's promise to Leon when Leon proposed. Leon kept remembering his struggles with Claire, but the woman changed when she was at the point of success.

When Leon graduated from college, his family gifted him a cheap house. Leon finally decided to sell the house at a low price so that Claire could open a company. With secret help from Leon, Claire's company has been in the top 100 in their city for three years.

"I'm a useless man? I'm just like a gigolo?!"

Leon rubbed his face roughly. He sighed heavily.

All of Claire's memories and insults toward him were jumbled up in his mind. Leon wandered aimlessly through the streets all night.

Leon leaned his back against the bench. He stared in all directions with a blank stare. Suddenly, his cell phone's ringing interrupted his reverie. He took the call without looking at who was calling him.

"Good morning, Young Master." Leon immediately recognized who had called him. Mickey. The butler of his family.

"Mickey, what's wrong?" he replied.

"There will be a party tonight, and you will be announced as the heir to the family. So you need to come with your wife," said Mickey.

Leon smiled wryly at his family's butler's request. His lips could still smile, even though his heart was aching.

"I can't come with her, we just got divorced last night." Leon tried to be calm when he mentioned the word "divorce", but the butler still heard the tremble.

Mickey was surprised. "Young Master, you must be joking, right?"

Leon snorted. "I can't joke like that!"

Mickey didn't expect Leon to experience such bad things during his happy moment. "I'm sorry to hear that, young master. Are you ok now? What can I do? Maybe we could cancel the party tonight..."

Leon took a deep breath and said, "Don't bother, Mickey. You must have paid a lot for that. Just go a head, I'll be there tonight."

"That's right, Young Master. Who knows, you'll meet a beautiful woman that suits you tonight." Mickey teased.

Leon laughed slightly at Mickey's words. Unfortunately, he still hasn't thought about getting a new woman.

"I am not kidding. Handsome, rich, and respectable men like you will surely be won over by many women, you can choose any woman," Mickey continued.

Leon made a wry smile, "You're right, but it seems I haven't thought about women." Mickey's praise managed to ward off all of Claire's insults and revive Leon's enthusiasm.

In the night, Leon came to attend the party. He appeared to be wearing a black suit. He looked handsome and neat, but his clothes were not branded.

Leon stepped towards the entrance, but his footsteps were stopped by the doorman. Considering that this was a lavish party where only the rich could attend, not just anyone could enter.

"Stop!" Doorman ordered. Leon's pair of eyes glanced casually at the doorman.

"Can I see your party invitation?" asked the doorman.

Leon shook his head. "An invitation? I don't know I need that to join the party. Let me call my butler." Leon explained.

The Doorman frowned.

Leon's answer sounded strange. It looks like all the guests at this party have an invitation.

He looked suspiciously at Leon, who knew this man had come to the party to do bad things and mess things up.

"Mickey..." At that moment, Leon heard a familiar female voice in his ear. Leon rolled his eyes and saw that Claire was there. "Wait a moment!" He ended the call in the middle of a conversation.

Leon saw Claire coming with a man. "Claire? What is she doing here? Who is that man?" muttered Leon.

Claire, who initially did not realize this, was finally shocked when she saw Leon.

Leon glanced at Claire and the man alternately. His gaze was so sharp and full of question marks.

"Le-Leon! Why are you here?" she asked.

It wasn't until Leon answered her question that Claire again made accusations against her ex-husband.

“I must remind you that we're divorced, so please don't follow me. I didn't expect you to be this desperate," she accused.

"I never followed you!" Leon denied it. His gaze focused on the man standing beside Claire.

"Who's he?" he asked.

"He is my business partner." Claire replied.

A tall man with blond hair scanned Leon from head to toe. That man was Edward Lackner. Seeing Leon's clothes made Edward dare to conclude that the man was no match for him.

"I know you came here for sure to chase after Claire. There's no way someone like you was invited to a lavish party like this," said Edward.

Claire gasped at Edward's words. Then she looked at Leon to see her ex-husband's reaction.

"Nothing is impossible in this world," Leon said casually.

Edward snorted. "But for someone like you, everything seems will be impossible!"

Leon exhaled. He came here to attend his family's party, not to argue. Unfortunately, he met with Claire here.

After getting no response from Leon, Edward spoke again. "You must be Claire's loser ex-husband, right?"

"You better shut up because you don't know anything!" replied Leon. Not wanting to waste his energy in vain, Leon decided to leave.

Claire watched Leon leave with a disappointed expression. She sighed in annoyance. "Leon always dodges like this," she muttered. This was one trait that Claire didn't like about Leon. Claire preferred a man who dared to face anything, not a man like Leon who chose to escape.

"I'm sure that loser must have come here for some reason." Edward stared at Leon's back, which was getting away from his sight. Seeing Leon's neat clothes, Edward was sure that the man had come here looking for work.

"Stop!" he cried. "You must have come here to find a job as a waiter, right? I can help you if you want!"
