3: A useless son-in-law after all

"You just keep getting prettier and prettier as the days go by. Don't you fear that at this rate you'll end up attracting every single man you come across?"

The man opposite Selena flattered her with a charming smile. Selena equally responded with a slight smile. She already seem flattered enough.

"You don't have to flatter me always," she said.

"I'm not ... You're indeed an epitome of beauty," The man expressed again leaving her almost blushing. "At this point, I don't know why you're still single without any man by your side. Since we've known each other for a while now, why don't I take the honor of being that man?"

He raised a brow with another charming smile as if luring Selena into saying ‘yes’.

Selena Dawns exchanged a seductive smile as well, "Well, I don't think I'm ready for that now. But who knows if you keep pleasing me, I might end up changing my mind someday," she said, flirting.

"Then I won't give up," The man assured as both of them made their way out of the mall with smiles.

"Selena..."

As soon as they got out, they heard someone calling ahead. Both of them looked up to see Matt standing before them with a takeaway in his hands while he stared at Selena.

"I got your meal...," Matt said as he handed over the meal to her.

Selena stared at the meal at him. She was feeling embarrassed and annoyed at the sight of the good-for-nothing nerd standing before him.

"What's this trash?! Take it away and give it to the dogs. You can eat it too, maybe. You seem hungrier,” Selena rolled her eyes before looking fondly at the man beside her and said coldly, "He is taking me out for a much better meal."

Matt Dawns felt dejected and deeply insulted at the words but he was still persistent, "Your mum had asked me to bring it and I had used up 200 dollars to get it here for you as soon as I can..."

"So what?" She quickly cut him off, "Do you expect me to eat such ... rubbish? How disgusting! Just go and throw it in the bin. The dogs might even not touch it. Or you can lick it clean yourself as I had said. You just get out of my way," she bashed at him.

Matt felt more infuriated and heartbroken at these words. But Selena didn’t even give him a second glance as she rolled her eyeballs.

"Darling, who is this shabby-looking loser? Do you know him?" The man beside her rudely asked

"Oh, he? Don't worry, Luke. He's just some kind of errand boy my dad had picked up somewhere. He's serving at our place so don't mind him. He can be meddling and annoying," She complained openly, ignoring the fact that Matt could hear her as well.

"Oh, I see," Luke said as he looked at Matt, scanning the latter from head to toe, clearly with disgust. "Did you hear that? My girl clearly said that she's not interested in your rat food, so, buzz off!"

Matt glared furiously at the man. He wasn't the type to get angry easily but unfortunately, when he did, he always ended up in a fight which he often lost to and ended up badly beaten up!

Fortunately, at least he was good at holding back.

"You lowly servant, what is glaring at?! How disrespectful! You want a fight?!" Luke snapped as he slapped a hand against Matt’s head, "Look away!"

"Just let him be. Don't waste your time on him. Let's just go," Selena interrupted impatiently, clinging up to Luke's hand. "As for you, get lost right now. I'm going to eat something nice, so don’t affect my appetite with your ugly face."

With that, Selena and Luke got in a Ferrari and left.

Matt Dawns stood there frozen, feeling dejected more than ever. He could feel his heart tearing up into pieces, and anger from the thought of that Luke burned up like boiling water within him.

He had his fists clenched hard as he stared into thin air but he couldn't do anything else. He was never able to do anything no matter how much he wanted to retaliate. Even he looked down on himself, so no wonder he ended up being looked down on in such situations and walked off.

On the other hand, Selena was rather a materialistic spoilt brat who always wanted the most expensive pleasure and always got what she wanted.

And even if she was engaged to Matt, it didn't stop her from going out with rich guys who always took fancy to her. It was like a normal thing to her because most of them didn't even know she was engaged. Even if they did, would they care? Matt doubts.

Besides, Selena had always told them that she was single and that he, Matt, was simply a servant boy. Even right in front of him!

This wasn't the first time this had happened as she had always humiliated him in situations like this. Calling him nasty and all sorts of things.

And with the support of her new guy, he was always humiliated over and over again.

He knew quite well it was because of his status and also because she was extremely embarrassed to be engaged with him and therefore did what she did in reprisal.

But what could he do? Probably it was his fate. At least, he was lucky to live in such a rich house, or was it so...?

"Where is that useless rat?! Why isn't he back yet?!"

A loud and harsh voice of a woman sitting on the dining table of a luxurious living room could be heard from afar.

The Dining table was huge and everything about it gave off extravagant vibes.

Sitting at the dining table was a woman who seemed to be in her early fifties and then another old woman who was sitting beside her, calmly enjoying a glass of warm tea. Opposite them was Selena, who had just come back from lunch.

"I sent him to get my expensive jewelry and he's still not back?! What on earth is that useless rat doing? if he messes up with it, I'll have him pay!" Mrs. Dawns snapped in rage.

"He's slacking off and being useless as always!" Selena concluded before complaining, "So annoying, I don't even know why we're still going on with this fake engagement! It's been two years now, why don't we call it off and send that loser away!" She said, feeling more and more impatiently.

"Don't ever say that!"

The calm yet dominating voice of the old woman, Selena’s grandmother, said as she slowly brought down the cup of tea from her mouth.
