Memories that don't want to leave

Kate had suspected nothing had changed in her marriage to Nicholas since Kimberly's departure. Nicholas did laugh at her, smiled, paid attention as usual but at certain times –especially at night- Nicholas would spend hours in Kimberly's room which he had partly converted into his son's room. Nicholas had hoped that Kimberly would be willing to stay there so that the house would hear a baby's cry. Nicholas didn't realize that the man's pretense was making Kate even more tormented.

Beep! A motorcycle horn made Kate turn her head, who had wandered off.

"Max, you almost surprised me." Kate muttered thinly. Kate wiped her tears that seeped down her cheeks without realizing it.

"You look very gloomy, Mrs. Nicholas. Did you know I've been watching you from the bookstore? Where are you going? Do you like the beach?” Max gave him a succession of questions.
