Chapter 04

The Audacity of Barbra thrilled him.

She really wanted their marriage to be over even so he loved her so much.

"Barbra, I hope our agreement remains the same and that you will either get cash or borrow from your family to pay off for Nelson lung surgery." Gerald stated to her like it was a question.

"Sure Gerald, our child's life too is important." She said back to him and he signed the divorce.

"Here's your copy." She says giving him a document as she carried the rest about leaving.

He could sense this betrayal from her every move but He did not want to believe that she could let her own son die now that he can't pay for it.

"And Yeah.... And you will have to leave this house too, It belongs to his family and I don't think they will want hoodlum in it." She says and smirks.

"What?" Gerald was shocked.

"Yeah I know... And that's not all, I won't be helping you get any money from his family too... Because he isn't just my son bruh, be the man you have always been, aren't you a man? Oh... too bad that you're a poor man, hahaha." She says, mocking him before she leaves the house.

He kept silent before He heard her car engine start and soon she had driven away from the compound.

He was so heart broken to even speak.

So a man isn't a man, Unless he is rich?

She's responsible for him being this broke and she had the guts to back out from helping to save their dying child's life.

He could not believe being broke or poor will ever make Barbra despise him so much.

He fell on his knees over the parlour floor.

He was breaking!

He never wanted to be this broken.

His phone rings from inside his pocket and He picked the strange call from a strange number.

"Hello, Is this Gerald." The exact voice of his fathers housekeeper said from the phone.

He wanted to cut the call because he had always bothered him about coming to inherit his fathers wealth, to be sincere... He knew that his father could do and undo, his father was very powerful and dangerous when he was still alive but Gerald didn't want any part of becoming like him.

His father had changed after his eldest brother's death and Gerald gave a close eye to ever returning home to inherit his fathers wealth.

"Please Gerald, don't cut the call this time... He heard about your sons health and how critical it is, this is something that can be paid for in less than a second, the hospital and even the streets around it can be bought too if only you return home to inherit and head your fathers wealth and business." He said over the phone as Gerald listened to him, getting annoyed.

"That evil wealth?" Gerald responded.

"Young master please." The housekeeper says.

"After all he put me through?" He replied to him.

"Gerald, you have to put the past behind you, your father is no more and he entitled all his wealth and assets to you... you need to understand." He explains to him like it was nothing at all.

"He trained me into an assassin, he made his son a killing machine, and did all his best to turn me into a cold hearted wicked monster like he was and that's the name you want him to uphold?" He said back to him and he kept silent.

"Gerald, your father still really loved you and asked me to tell you to forgive him because all he ever did was so that you will be strong enough to face his enemies and keep the name of the family strong." the housekeeper says back.

"Housekeeper, thanks but I have to decline your offer to help him out with my son at the hospital." He said back to him about cutting the call.

"Wait Gerald, just in case you consider changing your mind, you can always call this number and I will answer you whenever you are ready." He said back to him and it annoyed Gerald to the core.

"I said I don't want anything to do with his wealth!" Gerald said back in anger.

"Your father is the richest man in the world... Gerald, you must not let him down." He replies.

"Richest man in the world? How?" He asked back.

"Well over the years that you left, your father discovered a land full of crude oil, he was the only one rich enough to utilise the oil resource in that region and monopolised the resources which catapulted his wealth in a million times and he was given the merit after evaluation from government agencies later on as the richest man in the world." He says and Gerald's jaw drops down in shock.

"Woah!" He said surprised.

"And that makes me a..." Gerald said before the housekeeper finished the sentence.

"A divorced Octillionaire... Yes... I also know everything that happens in your life and has been watching you for years according to your fathers wishes." He replies to him and Gerald let out a smile.

So his dad still had an atom of care for him.

"Enough! I won't be lured by wealth, I have survived without it for so long but we can bet on this that I will be able to get help from my wife to care for our son's health." He said to him.

"And if you are unable to get this money from her family, what will you then do?" He asked me.

"Then you would win the bet and I will work according to his fathers wishes." Gerald said to him in return and the housekeeper settled.

"Deal" The old housekeeper replies to him who breathes out as he ended the call feeling a bit relieved thar he had a backbone but he was worried still on whether he had time or not.

He still needed to find a way out of the mess.
