I thought he was supposed to have lost his memories or something, the thought that he may have tricked us baffled me greatly, perhaps which is why the moment the barrier between us came undone the first thing I did was to prepare my angry face, one that showed that I wasn't going to be played for a fool however-“How did it go? Did you get any message?” Dale asked. He seemed to be genuinely concerned to know what it was that happened while I was inside the barrier which made me wonder if he was faking it or not. “Enough of the suspicions,” I told myself as I turned to Dale. “Tell me,” I said, “how did you get this device?” The both of them stared at each other for a bit, and then at me, the look on their face seemed to be asking whether or not I wanted to hear about it. “Out with it you two!”“Alright fine,” Zane said, “Dale, you tell him, it isn't something I'd have the pleasure of talking about.”With a face of disgust, he turned away and moved away, it wasn't that far of a di
I dragged my legs through without any idea of where we were headed. If I dared to even stop moving I would be pushed from behind by one of the guards, all the while only one thought was on my mind. “If only I could discover more.”I hated it, how short I was on time, I had come to the point where I was hopeless, how exactly did he want me to save my classmates when I had little to no time? The scene of piled-up bodies certainly wasn't something I would have liked to see again. “Too bad he was the only one.”Suddenly something inside me clicked. I knew something inside of me perceived things differently but I had only been able to sense it now. “What if someone else was in on the whole thing?” At long last Dale” 's words had begun to make sense, the words he kept saying echoed in my head. “We,” I thought to myself. “Not I.”I knew then and there that there was still hope for this terrible situation, Dale was not working alone, perhaps this game was unavoidable but I was glad I h
Rules, or should I say excuses, excuses for them to kill us. To my greatest disarray, I had to not only figure out a way to not die but also a way to save as many people as possible. Was that possible? Probably, I wasn't sure but I had to try. I stood up, ready to take the first step in action, I made my way to the center of the room and stood. I could feel everyone staring at me, they whispered amongst themselves and probably wondered what I wanted to do, some of them didn't look pretty excited to see me and a few looked hopeful.Their intentions are crystal clear, they wanted to reach the door before anyone else, but how foolish they looked, how nervously they trembled, most of them wouldn't even last three minutes in here and might collapse right during the game. “Hello everyone,” I greeted only to be replied by the dead silence that followed after, soon everyone returned to speaking with their peers and left me like an outcast. Well, what could I say, it was what I did someho
One by one, they seized us and blind folded us once again. I couldn't tell where we were going but it was obvious it was the arena. I couldn't stop thinking about that girl, what did she have in mind? it bothered me to think I had to put my trust in her, but at this point it was better than nothing at all. At last the guards stopped marching and let go of me. I could hear my classmates around me questioning where they were but there was no reply. "Do you think they've gone?" "Where are we?" "Is the next game about to start?" The whole place buzzed with curious suspicions and yet no one dared to make the next move, that is until he did. "Argh! Dammit, it's either they say something or am doing things my way," Zane yelled. I patiently waited to know what he was up to, but what followed was a grunt, he sounded confused. I itched to know what it was, and I also feared to know the reason behind his sudden quietness. Let's say his curiousity got to me and I ended up taking off my b
As I stood upon the wall and gazed below I realized just how fucked up we were. This maze was a designed death trap by a bunch of crazy bastards, even from where I stood I could not see afar. Still, I guess I could work with this. “Alright, we’ll stick to the first plan but it'll contain a few changes.” Their brows narrowed, “huh? But don't you see-”“I know, and I get it, I'm scared too, but we can work something out. Everyone, grab a partner, let's split into groups. Each of us will take a route, from what I can see it doesn't matter what route you take you'll end up reaching the exit, but, I think there's a catch, we’d need to keep our eyes open for traps and more, so long as the right person gets to the exit then we’re good. I'd stay behind and guard everyone.”It was a good plan but something troubled me, this feeling of restlessness. Unlike other Mazes all the routes here lead to the same exit so it didn't matter what route we were to take the results would be the same that i
I knew we were fucked. Talk about a ball chasing the others from behind. Things started to get a little trickier. While navigating my classmates to the exit, I noticed a sudden movement, which caused me to lose balance. “What the hell!” I cursed out of great shock. I wasn't sure what was going on at first and decided to halt in my tracks, but it wasn't just me; Zane also desperately tried to balance himself on top of the wall and turned to me, panting heavily as if he just saw his life flashed before his eyes. “Did you see that, Ande?” He yelled. “Yeah, and I don't think we're just seeing things?” I answered. Taking the next step felt like walking on thin threads, and it was more than frightening now that the wall didn't move like a snake patiently waiting to corner us. “Is everything alright there, guys?” Our attention is called back to the competition; I glanced back at the clock, noting that we were short on time; it was now or never. We had no choice. “We're alright, in a
“Ande, where the hell are you going?” Zane was struck with confusion as I made a turn towards the opposite direction and could not hide his concerns. Believe it or not, this was my only option, and I wouldn't let things end this way.“Time's up!” A voice yelled from somewhere amongst the crowd, and I knew I had to get things scurrying if we wanted to get to that exit on time. Tossing between my thoughts, I quickened my feet and headed straight to my left, where I spotted the other students. As I had predicted, the ball seemed to be tailing me, and it did not look like I could shake it off, no matter how many turns I took. This was the only option I had left. I ran like all hell had just broken loose, “Hey!!!” I yelled out loud to get their attention, but they didn't seem to hear me. One quick look behind me, and immediately, I knew I was in for a hot ride. “Hey!!!! Behind you!!!!” I continued to call out all which went to deaf ears. “Have you gone mad?”Upon hearing Zane's voi
As soon as it disappeared, panicked screams erupted from around. Exchanging worried stares with the others, I wondered what was going on. The only idea I had was that the appearance of the dead student on the screen must have reminded the other students that this was a death trap. “Shit,” I mumbled beneath my breath. It wasn’t the first death and wasn’t going to be the last. However, I thought that if we had a plan, we could lessen the number of deaths. It seemed hopeless now. I turned to the others. “Let’s go.” The screams didn’t still stop, making me wonder if I was just wrong and, perhaps there was an annihilation somewhere, which was impossible. The old geezer would rather we fought amongst ourselves, but it didn’t make sense for the former to happen since we still had time left. I needed to stop overthinking. As we turned a corner, three students stood in the middle of the road, having a discussion. Upon hearing our footsteps, they turned with panic-stricken expressions, which
