Ch. 13: The Family Dinner.

Ethan was now seated on the dining table. And just as he had expected. There were a barrage of questions that he needed to answer. The family did not disappoint in their questioning. They kept on with it, he was not even able to catch a moment's breath without a question flying his way.

"So, Ethan," the father began after sipping from a porcelain cup. "You do have a full name right? Tell us."

Kelly remembered then, which was a little bit too late that she did not create a a fake name for him. She tried signalling to him but before he could detect that he had already spilled.

"Ethan McKenna. My surname is McKenna."

"Ethan McKenna huh? I have never heard of such a name. Who is your father?"

That was the question. The one that could have a grown man cry because his father is actually nobody. Kelly was dying inside of her at this point.

"His father died when he was rather young," Kelly rushed in to answer. She had already fucked up for not thinking or asking about the details of his past, she could only try at this point to right her wrongs and make the best of it.

"Oh, is that so?" The father said, empathetically. "I understand. I'm so sorry about that."

"What do you do?" Stella, the mother asked, being on the whole more concerned over status than her husband, Noah.

"He owns a real estate." Kelly answered again before Ethan could answer, all in a bid to save face.

This made Brie suspicious. Kelly went on to answer more questions for Ethan.

"Your fine man seems to be unable to speak for himself," Brie observed, taking a drink and glaring rather slyly at Kelly.

Everybody agreed with her. Most especially her fiancé.

"I would like for you to talk," Drew said. "I would really like a partner to be talking to."

Kelly panicked in her heart. Her sister was on to her. She was catching on.

"Haha," Kelly made an obviously fake anxious laugh. "Well, he is not talkative. He is usually always quiet and never talks if not spoken to. But even still, he is still adorable. Isn't that right, my love?"

Brie rolled her eyes. Ethan was awakened by her question from the deep cocoon that he had hidden himself. One to shield him from the unbearable feeling that he had of the jinx being up even before it started. The Redmond family seemed too smart that Kelly had underestimated them, procuring this cheap skit and trick.

"Yes, my love," Ethan answered, although in a very terribly empty fashion.

"Wait a minute? You look familiar," Brie said, staring at him even as he refused to make eye contact with her.

"Where?" He asked. "I do not think I have seen you before, I'm afraid."

"Sure?"

"I don't think he has," Kelly pitched in.

"I think I was asking him, not you."

"He is my fiancé. Not yours."

"Girls!" Noah's voice resounded. "Aren't the both of you ashamed of yourselves? Why do you both always have to fight, even before a visitor like the fine man over here."

Both sisters kept quiet after the reprimanding from their father. More questions came along the way for Ethan. Most of them concerning his business, financial status, affiliations, etc., he and with the assistance of Kelly answered them all with lies.

"Now I remember where it is I know you from," Brie immediately said, shaking the entire table as she stood up. "You are that janitor from Kelly's work place. We once had a skirmish before and I even slapped you. You are Kelly's most miserable employee.”
