Chapter 2 Meeting My Sister

The next day was a weird one. I woke up in fear because of a nightmare. I’ve always had nightmares but this was a frightful one. I even woke up screaming. My uncle Kodyack was right there beside me when I woke up.

“What did you see?”

“I dreamt that I was in a field and a spacecraft appeared above me. A beam shot down from the ship and I saw an alien with big black eyes and he opened his mouth to speak to me and...”

“So what did the alien say?”

“I don’t know. I woke up before he could spat out the words.”

“Well, you need to get ready for school.”

“More like history about cithians academy!”

“Stop mocking the school and just get ready!”

“Fine! I will!”

I got ready and headed downstairs with my backpack and we got my uncle’s truck.

When I got to school I sat down as Miss Meghan stood at the blackboard.

“Today our lesson will be on what made the Sayis Council wipe the Hiton’s memory of us. But before we do, let me welcome the fifth graders.”

The fifth graders sat down.

“The fifth graders are here because we are studying what made bloodbringer Brian Henderson take office and why Kodyack was removed from office.”

Inside I felt really mad at my uncle for never telling me. But on the outside I kept fighting the urge to spill the beans. This emotion was the first time I noticed that I had my powers. They say when you notice your powers when you do things you can’t explain like today when my arm turned a piece of armor. You can only imagine how embarrassed I was when everyone started laughing at me. A girl with clear white hair looked at me.

“Are you Skyrid Crop?”

“Yeah, why? “

“I heard a rumor that Alex Crop’s son was going to Haystead. I guess the rumors are true.”

“Yep. Who are you?”

“Crystal Crop. I’m your dad’s daughter.”

“So wait, you’re my sister?”

“I guess I am.”

“So how old are you?”

“I’m 10. You?”

“Six.”

“How come I’ve never met you before?”

“I guess because I've been living with Uncle Kodyack. “

“Wait wasn’t he the last Bloodbringer who was impeached?”

“Yep.”

“How is it that he's raising a kid with that kind of record?”

“It does have its downsides. I mean, we have to have social services come out weekly.”

“Wow. You talk loud. I guess it’s true that autistic people have a problem with volume control.”

“Sorry. I guess I spilled beans with how loud I talk.”

Miss Meghan nodded her head.

“I have to ask you something in private then, Skyrid.”

I followed Meghan out of the classroom.

“I saw your armor appear. Do you know what that means?”

“I know about the armor thing. Everybody was laughing about it.”

“I don’t think you understand what that means though, do you?“

I shrugged my shoulders.

“Your dad went through the same thing before he gained the power rings in his wrists.”

“Power rings?What are power rings?”

I was really confused because my uncle never told me about cithians having powers. He also never told me anything about my dad having powers. So this was completely new to me.

“Every cithian who inherits their powers have small power malfunctions to show that they might gain powers although you won’t gain the rings in their wrists until you get older. But since you’re showing powers at such a young age, I have decided to put you in a class where other people who are going through the same things. “

Miss Meghan walked down to a small room. I walked in and a lady with grey hair walked up to me.

“Hi my name is Hannah Bloom. I’ll be your teacher.”

“Just sit down and I’ll teach you how to hide your malfunctions.”

I sat down. Miss Bloom sat down next to me as Miss Meghan left the room.

“So what’s your name?”

“Skyrid Crop.”

“So you’re Alex Crop’s son?”

“Yes.”

“So what was your first malfunction?”

“Armor showing up on my arm.”

“Hmm. That’s a pretty common one. But in this class we pair you with kids who have had similar Malfunctions to your own.”

Miss Bloom motioned to a boy with curly black hair. He walked over to us.

“Skyrid, this is one of our students.

He waved at me. Armor showed up on his hand and an orb shot out of his hand towards me as I dodged it.

Miss Bloom glared at him.

“Justin Mesa! I told you not to wave at people. All you’re allowed to do is talk and that’s it!”

I dropped my jaw.

“So you can’t wave at people?”

“Nope. Orbs just like to shoot out of my hands at any given moment.”

“So how did your powers show up?”

“Armor  just appeared on my arm today in fact..”

“I guess you’ll be wearing a shirt that changes your armor to the color of your skin.”

“What? You're joking right?”

Miss Bloom rolled her eyes.

“No. He’s not joking. So come with me to where we keep the shirts.”

I walked with Miss Bloom to a closet. She looked at me.

“I need you to tell me your favorite color.”

“Why?”

“Because you ‘ll be wearing the same color shirt every day you come to school. So you need to like it.”

”Purple.”

“What’s your shirt size?”

“X large.”

“So what do you think triggered your malfunction?”

“It happened when I was embarrassed to tell people about living with the former Bloodbringer, Kodyack Blues.”

“So what it sounds like is that it happens when you’re embarrassed about something.”

“I guess so.”

“Alright, I guess you need to learn how to control your emotions.”

“How would I do that? Your emotions come from your brain and you can’t control your brain.”

“True. But you can learn how to cope with them.”

“What did my dad do to cope with his emotions to help with triggering his malfunctions?”

“Your Dad’s powers also showed up at 6. But everybody copes differently. So knowing what he did wouldn’t help you.”

“But it’s pretty common that people's emotions trigger their malfunctions.”

“It is?”

“Yep. That’s why we don’t only teach students about their powers and their history,we also teach them how to cope with their emotions.”
